For obvious reasons, we don’t get too excited about PMPs developed and produced entirely in China, but similar to Gemei’s lot, Ainol looks to have a winner on its hands with the V3000. We’ve seen this display-dominated unit prancing around for awhile now, but we’ve just now learned how much the company plans on charging for it: 699 Chinese yuan, or around $102 before haggling. For that, you’ll get 4GB of internal space, a 4.3-inch 800 x 480 resolution display, FM tuner, TV output and a rechargeable battery. Now, where to find one is the real challenge.

We’ve always wondered when we’d see a KIRF that was actually more desirable than the original, and while this ripped T700 isn’t quite as succulent at SE’s own T700, it’s closer than most… on the outside. This touchscreen-based cellphone (which is obviously masquerading as a camera) supposedly sports a Carl Zeiss lens, a 5x optical zoom (seriously?), 8-megapixel sensor, a microSD slot and easily one of the nastiest user interfaces we’ve ever had the displeasure of laying eyes on. Let’s be honest — after sinking a few large on a new HDTV, a few hundies on some overpriced cables and even more on HD programming, you weren’t about to cough up another month’s paycheck for a decent TV stand. For the 48,600 customers out there who purchased one of four different King Pao Enterprise TV Stands (likely sold and distributed by Studio RTA), you now have a product known for tipping over and ruining lives. The E Series, Fierro, Madison DLP and Madison 3000 — all of which were sold at Best Buy and other big box retailers from May 2004 to August 2008 — have been deemed unstable and unfit for use in your living room, and it’s suggested that you cautiously remove your set and wait for a “repair kit” before it does the removing for you. We can’t (with a clean conscience) carelessly fling Newsmy’s M521+ into the KIRF pile — though we’d sure love to. It’s hard impossible to miss the design cues ripped directly from SanDisk’s Sansa Fuze, though the unit does have just enough uniqueness to keep it from being a bona fide clone. Reportedly, the device packs an FM tuner, FM transmitter, support for MP3 / WMA / APE / FLAC / AVI formats, a photo / text viewer and an interface that we wouldn’t let our worst enemies use. Oh wait, is that the iTunes logo? Is it too late to reconsider that whole KIRF eligibility thing.

If you haven’t noticed, China’s going all out to improve itself before the world fixes its eyes upon Beijing in just over a week. Rather than plunking down license fees to use a protocol that’s widely accepted, China has chosen to create its own digital TV standard: CMMB. Amazingly, RAmos has actually churned out a PMP to take advantage of said standard, and just in time for the 2008 Olympics. Unfortunately, we really know nothing about the iTV except that it can understand CMMB, so screen size, internal storage and everything else remains unknown. Heck, we don’t even know how expensive it is — but hey, it supports CMMB (for the three weeks you’re in China, after which it’s partially worthless)!

CBHD, née CH-DVD — the Chinese version of the now-deceased HD DVD format — is in production, gearing up for a fourth quarter launch. DigiTimes cites reports from enorth.com.cn that Shanghai United Optical Disc has laid out the first production line, although Taiwanese disc makers (already burned by HD DVD) aren’t as confident it can take on Blu-ray, even with considerably lower royalty fees and hardware costs for disc replicators. Coming alongside news that Chinese-built Blu-ray players based on increasingly affordable hardware is on the way, plus a decided lack of studio support, it’s not hard to see how this one will turn out (again.) Not to underrate China’s national pride, but unless it can gain an unexpected foothold among DVD pirates, CBHD will probably be on the high definition scrap heap alongside HD DVD, EVD and the rest before long.

Okay, so we’re trying not to judge this book by its cover, but Taijia’s PSP-860S just reeks of chintzy. The handheld gaming PMP not only plays back the elusive MP4 file format, but it also snaps presumably lackluster still shots with its 2-megapixel camera. You’ll also find 1GB / 2GB of built-in RAM, a USB port, AV in / out, miniSD expansion slot and some form of emulation application. If you’re not dozing by now, you may actually care that it’ll only run you 399 yuan ($59) / 499 yuan ($73).

Chinavasion isn’t known for offering up cutting-edge gadgetry — far from it, to be honest — but the MP4 player known only as the CVSJ-1304-4GB is actually fairly notable. According to the dodgy specifications, the $39.55 device checks in at just 4.5-millimeters thick, which is certainly thinner than the other so-called “world’s thinnest” DAP. Of course, this may only be true due to the “MP4″ moniker, seeing as most units not created and sold exclusively in China are called “MP3″ players. Semantics aside, the unit also includes a 1.8-inch display with a 160 x 128 resolution, a curious 2.5-millimeter headphone jack, a USB 2.0 port and a rechargeable battery. So, do any of you have a competitor that’s a hair thinner? Our hunch is yes.

Okay, so we won’t totally judge Chinavasion’s “High Definition Great Value” camcorder before we get to know it, but we’ll be frank, we ain’t gettin’ to know it. Those willing to give this heap a fighting chance can look forward to hope for 720p capturing at 30fps, 8-megapixel still shots, a 2.5-inch LCD monitor, 19MB (and not a byte more) of internal memory, an SD / SDHC expansion slot and an HDMI output for showing off your adventures to friends and family (who will inevitably whisper behind your back about what camcorder you chose). Nah, we’re not seriously riding this thing that hard, but do tell if you’re the first soul to lay down $157.50 for one. Anyone, anyone?

Not that we’d view the actual Touch Diamond as IF or anything, but the Diamond J6 is more along the lines of I3. In all seriousness, this thing isn’t too far from being spot-on identical (maybe it’s an HTC thing?), with a 2.8-inch display, built-in camera, multimedia player, Bluetooth and a microSD card slot. And for $160, we’re almost inclined to fall in love here… almost.

Some serious time has passed since Ainol rolled out its abominable V1000, and while we reckon the V2000 was lost somewhere in the mix, the V3000 is pretty enough to note — if but for a moment. Details are pretty slim on this one, but we are told that the widescreen unit packs an expansive 4.3-inch LTPS display with an 800 x 480 native resolution. Seriously though, you aren’t about to fly to China to claim one of these as your own, so just be satisfied with seeing Spidey behind all sorts of weirdly applied reflections.

On top of a piano, no less. China might be a bit late to the party by now, but they’ve sure got class. Taiwan retailer ePrice has unboxed 3’s Hong Kong version of the iPhone for your viewing pleasure, and they even did a bit of Chinese handwriting recognition just for kicks. There’s video as well (we embedded one after the break), so you really can’t go wrong with this one, we promise.

Update: For the record, this is a Hong Kong version of the phone, running what is purportedly a Chinese Traditional (Taiwan’s language of choice) UI, unboxed by a Taiwanese retailer. We update the post to reflect those facts, conspiracy theorists can return to their daily lives.

Finally we can toss out that old, boring Gemei X760 we’ve been fooling around with, and step up to some legitimate action. That’s right, the X760+ is on the scene, and that + isn’t just for show. The new iteration of the Chinese-made PMP / game playing device boasts 4GB of onboard storage, a 3-inch, WQVGA screen, a 400MHz CPU, FM tuner, and a TV output. The handheld is capable of playing MP3, WMA, APE, RM, MPEG, FLV, AVI, and VOB files (amongst others), but the main selling point here seems to be its built-in ability to emulate the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, as well as play “3D games.” The price? 599 yuan (or about $87). Availability? Call an importer.

Chalk this one up as just another rumor for now, but whispers around the Chinese web have it that China Unicom could be netting Apple’s latest handset (yeah, that 3G one) this August. If you’ll recall, Steve had issues in the past getting Chinese carriers to buy into his demanding revenue sharing model, but now that those days are gone, we suspect talks may go a little smoother. And c’mon, Apple didn’t add in Chinese character recognition for kicks and giggles, now did it? As of now, China Mobile has yet to make a peep on the rumblings, but we’ve only got a few months before finding out either way.

Screen shots posted on Chinese site wretch.cc allege that iPhone firmware 2.0 has added support for Chinese handwriting recognition in addition to a revamped (albeit non-recognition) Japanese interface. While that’s still light years from an Apple admission that not everyone is in love with the on-screen keyboard, it’s one small step toward functionality that seems to make boatloads of sense — in any language — given the phone’s generously proportioned touchscreen and its reluctant but unavoidable nomination as the Newton’s spiritual successor. What isn’t clear is how folks are expected to draw characters, seeing how there’s no provision for an on-board stylus, the entire interface is designed for finger use, and we don’t see many owner rushing out for a Pogo. However Apple intends for this feature to be used, the implementation looks pretty hot, capable of operating in both portrait and landscape modes. Sadly, it seems that Chinese is the one and only language supported at the moment; sure you don’t want to let everyone in on the Graffiti-esque retro fun here, guys?

For Newman, it wasn’t enough to knock off an iPod nano from years past. Oh no, it had to replace Apple’s iconic click-wheel with a prominent “N” on its MOMO-X2, just so it’s absolutely clear what PMP is being aped. In all seriousness, we reckon that letter has more to do with the company’s name than anything else, but it’s fun to pretend every now and then. On to specs, you’ll find a 1.5-inch display (176 x 132 resolution), a still-very-familiar opaque white / chrome motif, support for MP3 / WMA files, Microsoft’s PlayFX capabilities, a FM tuner, text / photo viewer, USB 2.0 connectivity and 2GB of internal storage space. On paper, we’d say that’s not too shabby for 399CNY ($57), but the street cred you’d lose from toting this around would be far, far more costly.

Sure, there’s a clip-on display for gaming on-the-go made for basically every console out there, but for whatever reason, Sony’s PlayStation 3 just doesn’t lend itself to being the perfect candidate the way Nintendo’s Wii does. Who knows, maybe it’s that curvaceous design or something. Anyway, Clearvision is hoping that you don’t much care how unsightly your console becomes when strapping its PS3 gaming monitor on, which adds a 7-inch LCD, a pair of speakers and little else. Unfortunately for those actually interested in picking one up, it seems you’ll have to put in an inquiry with one Shenzhen Madcow Digital Technology Co., Ltd. Good luck with that.

Shamelessly attempting to rip off a plethora of yesteryear’s gaming handhelds all at once isn’t a new trick or anything, but you’d expect the creators of the Cool Boy to at least conjure up a name with some inkling of originality, right? Nevertheless, the portable, um, system features a 2.4-inch color display, gets juiced from a trio of AAA cells and even includes a video out port for taking the sweet handheld action to the 13-inch CRT. Of course, the thing only works with Cool Boy Mega Pack game cartridges, which means that even the homebrew crowd is likely out of luck here. But hey, you can get 120 sure-to-be-riveting titles in a single cart for just $7.99. Any takers? Anyone? Okay.

Particularly of late, RAmos has really been exceeding expectations, and it seems to have raised its own bar once again with the easy-on-the-eyes V8. Sporting a svelte, black enclosure and a 4.3-inch display, this portable media player handles MP4, AVI, DivX, RMVB, MP3, WMA and FLAC file formats, boasts a TV output and even includes a text viewer. You’ll also notice that it automatically detects rotation and orients the on-screen imagery in response. Per usual, price remains a mystery here, but at least this one is apt to be worth more than whatever change is currently residing in your pocket.

Boasting what appears to be an electroluminescent keypad (is that a rotary dial design we see?) and a convenient flip-up screen, this watch / cellphone mishmash also features quad-band GSM / GPRS support, a 1.5-inch (160 x 128) internal display, 1.3-megapixel camera, multimedia player, Bluetooth, 0.5MB (generous, we know) of built-in memory and a MMS expansion slot in case you need more than a single Duran Duran track on your wrist.
