Dell’s Latitude XT is a pretty special piece of equipment, namely because it boasts multi-touch capabilities while being a Tablet PC. Unfortunately, it seems that quite a few users are growing increasingly frustrated with the touch-lovin’ screen, with GottaBeMobile going so far as to call Dell out to remedy the myriad issues with its N-Trig digitizer. Among the problems are “digitizer not found” errors upon restart, a digitizer that won’t work properly without a few reboots and a nice selection of applet loading errors to top things off. It seems the readers of the aforesaid site aren’t faring too well either, with the forums filling up with folks eager and willing to yell “amen!” and “me too!” Are you also experiencing wonky N-Trig problems? Are you fed up with Dell’s public silence on the matter? Or have you figured out a solution that you’ve been keeping all to yourself for the past seven months? Chime in down below.

It didn’t take long for Lenovo’s two-faced ThinkPad X200t to hit the test bench after coming over to US soil, and the critics over at Laptop Mag have mostly positive things to say about it. For starters, the convertible tablet maintains the “security, durability, and performance” that we’ve come to expect from Lenovo. The keyboard was deemed “excellent,” the lightweight design was applauded, the display performed admirably and the performance was very satisfactory (or “snappy,” as it were). The biggest knocks on the machine were the omission of an optical drive and the below average battery life; testers only squeezed out around 6 hours, which was far less than the company’s claim of 10.3 hours. Still, at just north of two large, the X200 was seen as an excellent choice for those seeking a versatile business machine, particularly if you dig that stylus-on-screen action.

We already got a decent enough look at Intel’s new convertible Classmate PC when it made its debut at IDF yesterday, but if you’re looking for a slightly more thorough examination of it, you may want to hit up Laptop Magazine, which got a chance to spend some time with the device and offer some initial impressions. As is even more apparent in these pics, the hardware is very much not finalized, with it sporting some mismatched parts and some components that may or may not make it into the final version. That said, they do seem fairly impressed by the laptop, with the built-in accelerometer working well, and the included “Quick Launcher” software shell making Windows XP considerably more accessible to students, and adults for that matter. Hit up the link below for the video hands-on and, of course, plenty more pics.

The WOW-POW folks gave us our first taste of the Kohjinsha SC3 on video, and now they’re back with the SX3KP06MA convertible “UMPC” (SX3 for short) in a full video review. We’ll let you watch the 10 minute review at your leisure, but in summary they found the computer faster than its SC3 sibling, despite identical Atom chipsets, and are of course general fans of the DVD-RW drive, 1280 x 768 glossy screen and pretty much all things Kohjinsha. Video is… wait for it… after the break.
[Thanks, Larry]

If you’ve been patiently awaiting the arrival of Gigabyte’s M912 convertible tablet / netbook hybrid, seeing some lucky fellow far, far from where you are unbox it isn’t apt to make the wait any easier. Still, there’s at least some level of comfort in knowing that these are indeed filtering out, and besides, it gives you a chance to really size up what you’re about to get yourself into. Hop on past the break and press play whenever you’re ready.

Gigabyte’s M912 has remained largely in the shadows since peeking its head out in early June, but now we’re finally getting a hint as to how much coin we’ll be forced to lay down in order to acquire one. Based on information from a Taiwanese poster over at UMPC Fever, the M912V, which arrives with Windows Vista, 1GB of RAM, WiFi and Bluetooth, should cost around $656. The WinXP-based M912X will reportedly check in at around $620, while the M912M arrives with a lower resolution display (1,024 x 600 versus 1,280 x 768 on the other two) and no Bluetooth for $556. Take all of this with a tablespoon of salt for now, but at least you’ve got a general frame of reference to work with as you plan out which netbook to squeeze into your gadget portfolio.

Shortly after the Kohjinsha SC3 was removed from the comfy confines of its packaging and exposed for all to see, said UMPC has managed to get reviewed. Initially, impressions were quite positive, as the reviewer noted that build quality was “superb,” the size was adorably small and the display satisfied all expectations. As for sheer performance, the Menlow-based rig excelled as it churned through applications with no huge lag issues; however, all that computing made the unit exceptionally warm, though it did remain quiet even when breaking a sweat. Battery life was shorter than advertised (only 2.5 hours), but aside from that, there wasn’t a whole lot to gripe about. Think it’s too good to be true? Head on down to the read link for videos, benchmarks and impressions.

Kohjinsha’s cranked out some interesting convertible UMPCs, but the new SX-series pushes the definition about as far as it can go with its chunky looks and packed feature set — this bad boy is probably even too loaded / expensive to be properly called a netbook. You’re looking at an 8.9-inch convertible tablet running Vista on a 1.33GHz Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, a 60GB drive, built-in dual-layer DVD drive, WiFi, Ethernet, dual cameras, ExpressCard/34 slot, VGA out, 1seg tuner, card reader, and 2 USB ports, with a 4.2-hour battery life (8.2 hours with the extended unit), all in a 2.7-pound unit about an inch thick. Available soon in Japan for €650 ($1,000) to €850 ($1240) depending on options, let’s hope it follows some of Kohjinsha’s other devices to our fair shores.

With the subnote revolution in full swing, one may wonder why anyone in their right mind would even consider opting for a Tablet PC. There’s no denying that tablets cater to a narrowing niche, but the ability to doodle, write and detail your next home project (or similar) right on the screen still has its place in universities and certain on-the-go professions.
“I know I’ll get tons of people suggesting that I just buy an Eee PC or similar, but I’m looking for some solid advice on a new Tablet PC. I’m primarily interested in taking notes in a few courses that I’m in, and I’m not planning on using this as my primary machine. I’m looking to spend the least amount of cash as possible, and I’m not looking for anything really powerful. I’m also down with any convertible suggestions — anything I can sketch schematics out on will do.”
Come on out of the woodwork, Tablet PC users. We know you’re out there. Give this fellow a bit of advice, and make sure you don’t lead him astray, alright? If you think you’ve got a question worthy of posting, shoot it on over to ask at engadget dawt com.
