We’ve long since known that RIM’s BlackBerry Bold was AT&T bound, but in case you haven’t noticed, the rumored October 2nd release date has come and went, and there’s nary a Bold on any of AT&T’s store shelves. According to RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis, the handset is still undergoing testing at AT&T, suggesting that it wanted to avoid the complaints that arose when the newest iPhone hit in July. AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel remained mum on the subject when asked, only affirming that the handset would eventually be available this year. Ah well, you’ve been looking for a reason to vacation in Chile, haven’t you?

Okay, so we’re pretty sure a fortnight after August 7th was August 21st, and while CherryPal was adamant it would finally release its $249 cloud PC then, it has since hit another snag. This go ’round, the company is blaming a “glitch with the graphics processor,” which “absolutely needed to be addressed.” Comically enough, it’s suggesting that the unit will now ship — gasp! — two weeks from now, though we’re more apt to believe you’d want to make out with Android if given the chance than to trust anything coming from the doors of CherryPal.

You know how it goes with Sony and PS3-related peripherals. A big introduction, followed by a slight delay, followed by a longer delay, followed by a little something to take the sting off. Here we have word from Noam Rimon, senior development manager at SCEA R&D, that the news-blasting (and uncomfortably named) Life with PlayStation will once again be delayed. According to Noam, Sony is “still pushing some paperwork” on the service, though he gave no expected time frame for the actual launch. Nevertheless, he softened the blow by announcing once and for all that it will indeed be free (and accessible directly from the XMB) whenever it finally goes live. Gotta take the good with the bad, we guess.

It’s a little difficult to delay a device that hasn’t gotten a more specific release window than “the second half of 2008″ (from official sources, at least), but Sony Ericsson is doing its darnedest. The scuttlebutt at IFA is that the XPERIA X1 has been delayed to the end of the year, and a Sony rep confirmed to us that it’s looking like December 2008 or January 2009. To blame is the software, specifically Windows Mobile 6.1 (or perhaps SE’s implementation of it), which appeared to be actively destroying the display units Sony has on display at IFA — of the three devices, one had some green status lights, one didn’t work at all, and one turned on briefly, only to crash hard and never return again… a pretty poor showing for day one of the show. Some hands-on shots are below, glaringly void of actual device usage.

NASA has delayed plans to send an unmanned robotic spacecraft to the Moon — and the pause in action will cost $7 million a month, say reports. According to various news outlets, the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter was set to blast off for the Big Cheese this December, but officials have decided a February 27th launch will provide the team with more wiggle room. The $491 million device is being sent skyward to circle the Moon’s poles and map a safe touchdown spot for actual humans, set to journey up onto the Lunar surface sometime in 2020. In addition to the Orbiter, the space agency plans to launch an impactor probe into one of the Moon’s poles in search of water ice. It should be a blast.

Be honest here, you didn’t even remember that the $249 CherryPal cloud PC was expected to ship this month last month. Reportedly, you’ll be waiting a little longer for a PC you don’t even know about thanks to a software quirk that isn’t playing nice with a newer SSD. CherryPal is hoping to get the issue resolved and begin shipping the wee boxes within two weeks, though it does leave open the possibility for things to take “longer” as it slips into vaporware territory.

CNET Asia has apparently received word that not only will ASUS’ Lamborghini-branded ZX1 smartphone be canceled (as we mentioned earlier this month), but the company will also be putting the brakes on its forthcoming P560 and M536 phones as well. In a statement issued presumably to CNET, the company claims that the project has been postponed due to the “technical immaturity of a key component from one of our suppliers,” though they seem to have left the door open for a reboot. We know one thing for sure — it’s clear that the P560 and M536 weren’t those “more important devices” the company made reference to previously. They probably need the resources for another 25 versions of the Eee PC.

Bad news, Atom fans. That dual-core nugget of netbook-powering goodness that you were so looking forward to seeing in Q3 won’t begin shipping until Q4. According to some data picked up by Fudzilla, the Atom 330 will only be debuting in Q3 (September 21st, to be precise), but it isn’t scheduled to get a shipping label until a few months later. Also of note, we’re told that the chip will sell (at some place in the supply chain) for $43, but don’t count on those savings being completely passed onto you.

It’s June 27th, but instead of a 10-inch MSI Wind NB unboxing we’re hearing that at least one pre-order customer is being greeted with another delay. Reason? An “industry wide battery shortage.” Come now MSI, we guess you missed that giant fireball-of-a-signal to look elsewhere for your inventory back in March? At least MSI is tossing in free overnight delivery with the new July 7th ship date. Hoozah, drinks are on Fred! Full MSI notification posted after the break.
P.S. The MSI Wind MB retail page is currently blank. Time will tell if this is a deeper issue or just a temporary administration error.
[Thanks, Fred H.]

According to reports crossing the wires this morning, Research In Motion is expected to delay the release of its next-gen BlackBerry Bold. The Boy Genius is claiming that software issues, battery life problems, and overheating are causing the hold-up, which will move the street date back to mid-August as opposed to the presumed July release on AT&T. There’s been no confirmation from RIM on the news, but that’s not stopping analysts from predicting the move will lower the company’s second quarter earnings outlook. We’re pretty sure it’ll make businessmen with twitchy thumbs none-too-happy as well.

Phew. Not the closest call we’ve seen, but close enough to get us sweating ever-so-slightly. We had a strange feeling some wires were crossed when a report surfaced stating that the “Gphone” wouldn’t be shipping until 2009, but for whatever it’s worth, Google has now addressed the issue and affirmed that it is “still on track to announce Android-powered phones this year.” The spokesperson continued by proclaiming that “some of [its] partners were publicly stating that they plan to ship Android phones in the fourth quarter,” which leads us to say: crisis averted, carry on.

It looks like your dreams of laptop salvation via the Van Der Led Jisus will have to wait a little, as the company has pushed back the release of its diminutive PC to the 28th of July (at least according to the product page). However, if you want to spend a tiny bit more money, they’ve got a new model that nets you a lot more bang for the buck. Enter the Jisus V2, or as we like to call it — the second coming of Jisus. The new version features a pink leather (!?) casing, a 10.2-inch 1024 x 600 LED display, a VIA C7-M 1.6GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, a VIA Chrome9 graphics chipset, an 80GB hard drive, 802.11a/b/g, and Bluetooth 2.0 support. All this magic will supposedly be available come June 20th for an extremely affordable €349.99 (or about $546).

We can’t really see the logic in releasing a Blu-ray player without BD-Live in 2008 — and neither can Samsung, which just announced its fourth generation BD-P1500 will be BD-Live Ready. The bad news is the May release date announced earlier has slipped to June, and the formerly comfortable $399 MSRP is now a less promising TBA. We’re not sure if that “ready” tag means it will be BD-Live enabled out of the gate, however DTS-HD “High resolution” is confirmed on the way in a future firmware update. A slight delay for a significant upgrade in features? We’ll allow it.
Update: Samsung let us know the press release was in error, the MSRP will remain at $399.

After hitting delays already, we can’t say that this was the PlayStation Home press release we’ve been expecting. Nevertheless, Sony just announced that it is expanding the closed PlayStation Home beta to more users in “Fall 2008.” Kazuo Hirai, prez and ringmaster of Sony Computer Entertainment, said, “We understand that we are asking PS3 and prospective PS3 users to wait a bit longer, but we have come to the conclusion that we need more time to refine the service.” Come on Mr Hirai, you can say it, PlayStation Home is delayed. See, that’s wasn’t so hard.

After seeing that spy shot and the Amazon link with an April release date, it seemed like Canon’s Rebel XSi was bound to drop any moment, but now that may not be the case. According to the latest info plastered up at the online-retailer, you won’t be able to get your hands on the new DSLR until June 15th, which is basically a lifetime if you’ve been waiting on this. It could just be a minor mixup, but frankly we’re not holding our breath.
Update: According to a number of commenters, this camera is available pretty widely right now. Apparently, Amazon is the only place on Earth where the release is being delayed. Sweet!

It’s April, do you know where your WiMax service is? Unfortunately, S.Korea as Sprint backtracks on the planned April launch of its commercial Xohm service in the US. This according to an official company spokesman. Sprint says that the launch has been delayed to “later in the year” which many expect to be as early as summer. Even then we’re likely only talking about Chicago, Baltimore, and D.C. areas. Time to start making room for LTE in our sad, jaded hearts.

Reuters is reporting that the European Commission, apparently having completed is inquiry into the $4.2b acquisition offer TomTom made Tele Atlas last year, is apparently issuing a “statement of objections.” Apparently it’s not a flat-out rejection / do not pass go / do not collect $200, but now TomTom has until May 5th to work on resolving the issues the EU’s presented before it can get the thumbs up to make its big buy.

According to DigiTimes, the reason we haven’t seen any CloudBooks on sale is due to the weather. Recent heavy snowfalls in China wreaked havoc on the local rail systems and power supplies leaving FIC unable to meet their targets. According to “sources,” retail shipments will now be pushed back to mid-March. Now our quandary. What’s more dubious? Everex’s newly posted 2/21/2008 availability date or China’s claimed ability to control the weather during the summer olympics?

var digg_url = ‘http://digg.com/playstation/Sony_delays_Skype_PSP_and_microphone_launch_indefinitely’; Weird. After making such a fuss, Sony Japan just delayed Skype on PSP services in Japan. A move with a definite knock-on effect for the rest of world. The cause of which seems to be Sony’s two microphone products — the single pack PSPJ-15010 and twin pack PSPJ-15011 — which “did not meet the Skype specifications” and thus failed the certification process. Something you think Sony would have known well before the eve of the scheduled January 24th launch. We’ll let you know when a new date is announced.
