Lenovo S10 delayed two months?

September 10th, 2008 by

Filed under:

We’re not sure what to make of this, but Liliputing says that orders for Lenovo’s sharp S10 netbook have been just been delayed for two months. Given the standardized nature of the Atom-based internals and this little guy’s recent appearances in the wild and at the FCC, we’d venture that this has more to do with stock issues than with design problems, so hopefully things will get sorted a lot quicker than two months — although apparently even Lenovo didn’t know what parts it was putting in this thing, so who knows what’s going on. Anyone else have an order pushed back — or better yet, shipped out? Let us know in comments!

CherryPal $249 cloud PC delayed for a fortnight… or longer, maybe

August 7th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Be honest here, you didn’t even remember that the $249 CherryPal cloud PC was expected to ship this month last month. Reportedly, you’ll be waiting a little longer for a PC you don’t even know about thanks to a software quirk that isn’t playing nice with a newer SSD. CherryPal is hoping to get the issue resolved and begin shipping the wee boxes within two weeks, though it does leave open the possibility for things to take “longer” as it slips into vaporware territory.

Garmin’s Nuvifone delayed until early 2009

July 30th, 2008 by

Somehow this doesn’t surprise us. According to a statement released ahead of Garmin’s Q2 earnings call, the company says it will be delaying the release of its Nuvifone from late 2008 until the first half of 2009. In the press release, the satnav-maker says it has “found that meeting some of the carrier specific requirements will take longer than anticipated,” and claims it is “working toward making necessary design changes to meet their requirements.” Here’s hoping the bump stems from these minor niggles with carriers, versus trouble with the phone itself, which was running only a partially operational OS last time we saw it.

Blackberry Bold release date delayed?

June 25th, 2008 by

Filed under:

According to reports crossing the wires this morning, Research In Motion is expected to delay the release of its next-gen BlackBerry Bold. The Boy Genius is claiming that software issues, battery life problems, and overheating are causing the hold-up, which will move the street date back to mid-August as opposed to the presumed July release on AT&T. There’s been no confirmation from RIM on the news, but that’s not stopping analysts from predicting the move will lower the company’s second quarter earnings outlook. We’re pretty sure it’ll make businessmen with twitchy thumbs none-too-happy as well.

[Thanks, Sam]

MSI Wind Atom-based laptops delayed again

MSI Wind delay

For those of you looking to get your hands on one of MSI’s new Atom-based Wind laptops, you’re going to need to wait a bit longer. We expected the machines to start shipping already, but a big pink “Estimated Ship Date: Friday, June 27″ at MSI’s online fulfillment site has shattered our dreams all the way to, at the earliest, the end of June with our hands on the machines in early July at best. We’ll keep our eyes on what appear to be an endless stream of tacked-on delays. MSI, you tease us so!

Update: So it looks like the delayed machine will ship with a 3-cell (instead of 6-cell) battery due to shortages. To be fair, the price is a somewhat reduced $479.

Everex’s Cloudbook delayed again, again

February 15th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Oh Cloudbook — it’s like you just keep floating off on us. We all thought Everex’s little Eee competitor was going to drop today (the 15th), but since that turned out to be a bust, we started to get curious. As you might have guessed, the $399 UMPC has been ever-so-slightly delayed, again, this time until February 21st (or so they say). We’ve covered an unboxing if you’re really jonesing for a look at the gOS-sporting device — but keep in mind you could ruin that x-mas-morning feeling of wonderment when you pop open the box.

[Thanks, Travis]

AMD delaying quad-core Phenom 9700 and 9900 once again? UPDATE: AMD says everything’s on track

February 8th, 2008 by

Filed under:

digg_url = ‘http://digg.com/hardware/AMD_delaying_quad_core_Phenom_9700_and_9900_once_again’; The sun just refuses to shine on AMD — according to several Taiwanese motherboard manufacturers, AMD is saying that the quad-core Phenom 9700 and 9900 are going to be delayed yet again, this time to the end of Q3. Apparently there’s a buffer-related glitch in the original design, so AMD is actually “canceling” the two chips and “reintroducing” the revised versions in Q3 as the 9750 and 9950 to “improve consumer confidence.” That’s certainly an interesting tactic for a chip that’s never seen the light of day — but we’d say that the best thing AMD could do to improve consumer confidence is stop talking and start shipping, no?

Update: We just got off the phone with AMD, who told us that they’re actually ahead of schedule on the “B3″ Phenom silicon, which fixes that buffer error without requiring a new BIOS, and that they expect to ship higher frequency quad-core Phenoms in Q2 as planned. They would not, however, give us model numbers or clock speeds, and wouldn’t commit to a date in Q2 — so don’t be surprised if these hit as the 9750 and 9950 on the last day of Q2 after all.

[Thanks, Mack S.]

Slacker Portable Player delayed until next year

December 6th, 2007 by

Filed under:

Not that next year is too far away or anything, but those of you who have been following Slacker’s WiFi-enabled Portable Player DAP may be disheartened to learn that its release has been delayed until January 31st, 2008. According to an email received by folks who have already pre-ordered, Slacker has “adjusted” the targeted ship date of its streaming device away from December 13th “in order to deliver the best possible player.” Customers who don’t want to suffer another six weeks to get their slack on are welcome to cancel their orders, although you don’t need to do anything at all if you’re cool with waiting.

OLPC XO hit with production delays

October 24th, 2007 by

Filed under:

If you were all set to plop down $399 in order to bless some eager kid overseas (and your own inner-child) with an OLPC XO this year, your plans are now in serious jeopardy. Reportedly, some sort of production delay has pushed the approximate start date for manufacturing from this month to November 12th, meaning that it’s highly unlikely any significant number of US / Canadian orders will be filled before Christmas. According to Mary Lou Jepsen, chief technology officer for the One Laptop per Child Foundation, it had “some last minute bugs” that have since been resolved, but now it’ll be an uphill battle just to fill the initial orders placed by Peru and Uruguay in a timely manner. If it’s any consolation, Jepsen did state that some folks in North America would probably get their machines before the year’s end, but recommended that you “order early” if you’re the totally impatient type normal.

Palm’s Ed Colligan confirms: no new Palm OS till end of 2008

October 3rd, 2007 by

Filed under:

Just in case you missed the mention in our post about Palm’s Q1 FY08 conference call, or the earlier report about the company’s new OS getting more delays, take notice: Ed Colligan did indeed confirm that we won’t be seeing a new operating system on Palm devices until the end of next year. Of course, with a track record like this crew has, we’re not holding our breath, and would seriously suggest you follow suit.
