Eli Roth directing a film within the film Inglourious Basterds?

November 19th, 2008 by

Looks like Quentin Taratino is letting his BFF Eli Roth aka The Bear Jew go from in front of the camera in Inglourious Basterds to behind it for a film within the film. According to The Quentin Tarantino Archives, Eli is a “guest director for the “film within the film”, which stars Daniel Brühl as a Nazi sniper and GIs on a suicide mission.” The little tidbit was realized when someone realized that QT was not at the shoot above, and it was revealed that Eli was. After staring at my computer screen for hours trying to see if I could see The Bear Jew with his military haircut in the fan video, alas I discovered I could not find him. Oh well, soon enough we will see it all when Inglourious Basterds comes out next year! I so can’t wait for this movie!

Eli Roth produces Cotton

November 6th, 2008 by

(photo from WireImage)

Eli Roth, who is currently filming Inglourious Basterds in Berlin, had the film Cotton that he is producing for Strike Entertainment get picked up by Studio Canal according to Variety. Cotton is about an evangelical minister who turns against religion and decides to participate in a documentary in which he practices his last exorcism.

Eli Roth told me:

COTTON is the scariest script I've read in years.  I'm a huge fan of the filmmakers, who made a brilliantly funny, sick, and rarely-seen film called MAIL ORDER WIFE.  Strike produced the "Dawn of the Dead" remake and we've been quietly putting this project together for the past few months.  The script is terrifying.

After reading what the movie is about and what Eli told me, I so can't for that movie! Seriously how awesome does it sound!!!

Eli Roth as The Bear Jew in Inglourious Basterds!

October 30th, 2008 by

Finally thanks to X17 Online we get to see the first glimpse of Eli Roth (he is the one behind Quentin) as Sgt. Donny Donowitz, aka The Bear Jew! Seriously how cute does Eli Roth look with that baseball bat-swinging Nazi hunter milirtary haircut? After seeing that picture, I am even more excited for Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds!

Inglorious Scientologists?

October 1st, 2008 by

Last week the cast of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards got together in Berlin for a meet and greet before they start shooting the epic. Well someone posted the video of Quentin, Eli Roth, Brad Pitt, Diane Krueger and the rest of the cast on YouTube and titled it…

Now I wonder what type of image did Tom Cruise leave on the German people when he filmed his latest dud Valkyrie over there? Do they think all celebs from America are Scientologists. Don’t they know that is so last century the cool religion now is Kabbalah? Can you see Brad Pitt or Eli Roth as Scientologists? Too funny.
Hopefully Quentin and his Bastards will be able to change the perception that Tom Cruise left behind.
BTW filming starts on Inglorious Bastards on October 13th!
xoxo YKW!!!

Eli Roth is Spicy!

August 17th, 2008 by

My favorite horror movie director Eli Roth who is rumored to be starring in his BFF Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards is becoming the latest paparazzi darling as he was photographed going through security before taking a flight from LAX to hometown Boston. I wonder if the Boston press and paps caught him going to a Red Sox game.

Seriously how cute does he look in those shades with that Spice Girls hat, I want more paparazzi pictures of him because they make him look good! But seriously if he is going to Boston, shouldn't he be wearing a NKOTB hat and not a Spice Girls one?

Mike Myers is a Bastard again

August 15th, 2008 by

Mike Myers goes from being a Fat Bastard to being an Inglorious Bastard according to Variety. He is joining Brad Pitt and Eli Roth in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards playing a British Gen. Ed Fenech, a military mastermind who takes part in hatching a plot to wipe out Nazi leaders. It will nice to see Mike Myers take on a dramatic role again.

Brad Pitt and Eli Roth are Quentin Tarantino’s b!tches, I mean Bastards!!!

August 7th, 2008 by

Brad Pitt is joining Eli Roth and starring in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards according to Variety!!

Much of the pic's dialogue is in French or German, and subtitles will be used, though Pitt will speak English in his role as a Tennessee hillbilly who assembles a team of eight Jewish-American soldiers to take on the Nazis.

Eli had already signed on to play Sgt. Donnie Donowitz, a baseball bat-swinging Nazi hunter. In other words he will not only be one of his BFF Quentin's Bastards he will also be one of Brad Pitt's. Which I don't think it a bad thing. Seriously how hot do they look together? If that picture is a preview what the movie is going to look like, I can't wait to see this movie in June, 2009.

Other names being rumored to be joining this WWII epic are Simon Pegg, David Krumholtz and B.J. Novak that begins filming October 13th in Germany.

Inglorious Bastards sounds like it is going to be big Oscar movie of next year! It has Brad, Quentin, Eli, The Weinsteins, Nazi hunters and subtitles, what more do you need? Hopefully Eli Roth, Quentin Tarantino and Brad Pitt will all finally be bringing home that gold statuette for their work in this sure-to-be powerful movie!

Eli Roth is one of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards

August 5th, 2008 by

(photo from WireImage

Eli Roth is set to play a baseball bat-swinging Nazi hunter in his BFF Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards according to Variety. Tarantino was trying to get both Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio to star in the movie, but the first confirmed role goes to Eli Roth as Sgt. Donnie Donowitz.

The rest of the cast which might include Brad should be announced shortly and production is set to begin this fall in Europe. Sounds like Tarantino might have another Oscar nominated movie on his hands, wouldn't it be nice if Eli got a nom for his part in the movie!

Mazel tov to the nice Jewish boy Eli Roth who is playing a Nazi hunter. His parents must be so proud!

Germany bans movies they deem too violent like Hostel 2

July 6th, 2008 by

On June 10th, this year, Germany passed new, stricter censorship laws, banning movies they deem too violent. Hostel 2 had been censored in Germany during its theatrical release (the censors felt the comical scene of kids playing soccer with head at the end was too violent - I'm not kidding) so the horror fans there felt cheated, and were waiting for the unrated DVD. The German fans have always been incredibly supportive of me, and it was very frustrating for all of us that even the R rated version of Hostel 2 could not be seen. On June 10th, 2008, the uncut DVD was officially listed as illegal in Germany. I got several reports of police in Munich raiding video stores and pulling the DVD off the shelves. Let me repeat that: three weeks ago, German police were going into video stores and pulling Hostel 2 off the shelves because the government censored it. This is disturbing on many, many levels. When a government censors any creative work like this, it sends a very dangerous message that the violence in these movies is real. We're talking about a DVD - where you not only can hear me explaining how we did every kill in the film, but you can then watch a behind-the-scenes special showing us applying the make up to the actors during the scene. When people ask me "how could you kill all those people?" I have to explain to them that we didn't kill anybody - that there is no actual violence in my films, it is simply a representation of violence. But what's really dangerous is that this is the beginning of the end of free expression for any artist who wants to make a film in Germany, or show their work there. Once the government starts with the horror movies, who's next? Someone's deciding what is decent and what is not, and politicians never stick up for violent work, because that makes them look like they are publicly endorsing actual violence. They will vote to go to war and actually kill people to 'defend freedom', but vote against allowing violent movies. Will they also ban Pasolini's anti-facism masterpiece "Salo?" Will they start censoring paintings they deem too violent? Will they ban the work of Cormack McCarthy - our most celebrated author - because it's too violent? Did they read "The Road" or "Blood Meridian?" What about those amazing German DVD labels (who I don't want to mention here so as not to raise any red flags) who put out those rare Italian films from the 70's that I can't find anywhere else? And most importantly, what about the fans, who now risk going to jail simply for purchasing a DVD - something everyone else in the world (except New Zealand and Singapore, where I was also banned) can watch?

I hear people complain about the MPAA all the time, and I just wish they could be in my shoes for a day. The MPAA is not a government organization, they are an organization hired by the studios to self-police. They actually listen to you - you can have a discussion with them - and they work with you to protect the integrity of your film within the boundaries of a rating we all created specifically to avoid government interference. We can thank the MPAA for allowing us to have all the horror movies we have today in cinemas - they are our allies. And even if your film gets trimmed your film has an afterlife on the unrated Blu Ray. But in Germany the fans are not so lucky anymore. They are censored by their government, and the police will arrest you for buying or selling a DVD they feel is too dangerous for the public to see. I understand the German sensitivity to violence. And it is no secret there are numerous references to the holocaust in both "Hostel" films (bodies being incinerated at a factory of death, the torturer speaking German, Paxton speaking German to show he speaks the same language as his torturer, etc.) so perhaps the censorship is a little personal. But I have always said my films do not inspire violence, but rather discussions about violence, and I suppose if that comes from this then my objective has been achieved. I went to Germany for all of my films and had an amazing time with the fans as well as the journalists - they were all really cool, and really got it. But I do feel these politicians completely missed the point of both films and are treating them as if I truly killed people, when it in fact this act of censorship is far more dangerous than anything I could ever do in a movie. The movie's pretend, but this, unfortunately, is very real.

Eli Roth just blogged this about the censorship going on in Germany and I had to share what he wrote with y'all. As a lover of horror movies, I would be horrified to see them go away. And what is deemed too violent in their eyes? What might deemed too violent for one person, might be OK to someone else? What are they going to ban next Schindler's List, Life is Beautiful or anything they have a problem with it until it is country full of a G-Rated movies? Back in the '70s they arrested Harry Reems and others here in The States for their parts in a movie called Deep Throat, (things I learned by watching Swingtown on CBS) could you imagine going to back time where our rights to see what we wanted is taken away from us? I could not, and I hope no other country takes that stance. So go out and rent Hostel 2 or a porn movie and appreciate that you are able to watch what you want when you want!

Michael Bay responds to Uwe Boll’s challenge

April 30th, 2008 by

Can we stop talking about this guy! I never even heard his name till last week when he made threats and rants. The guy is a fucking idiot, making threats to me, Clooney, Eli Roth, says he has a doctorate - but uses the word "retard" in his vocabulary, come on. When you look at his videos, what is interesting are the backgrounds. I guess his low rent offices, with 15 year old 3/4 machines, archaic computers, this is just some dumb chump trying to get some fame when he has none, so he has to make Youtube lame quality anger rants. Guy just want attention because he can't get any for the so called movies he makes. Nothing sadder when he had his screening in LA to an over half empty movie house.

He is a troubled soul - let's just waste time on talking about him please.

M

I am kind of bummed that the Michael Bay and Uwe Boll will not be going at it because looks like Michael Bay would have really kicked his a$$! Now that Michael Bay has said no, I wonder if Uwe will challenge Eli Roth to a fight because I want to see Eli show him who is boss!
BTW hats off to Michael Bay on his response, I finally liked something he did!!!

Eli Roth is going PG-13

April 24th, 2008 by

(photo from WireImage)

Eli Roth is going soft torture porn with his next movie according to Reuters. He is working on a PG-13 Sci-Fi flick inspired by the recent blockbusters Transformers and Cloverfield.

"This will be my first big-budget, PG-13, mass-destruction movie," he said backstage at the music industry's NME Awards in Los Angeles. "I went total chaos and pandemonium."

"I feel like I pushed the violence in R movies about as far as I can push it. I feel like I'm bled out. I wanna switch it up," said the 36-year-old protege of Quentin Tarantino.

"Everyone I know has been saying 'When are you gonna do a movie my kids can see?' And finally, I'm gonna make a movie that 13-year-old kids can see."

But for us fans of his torture porn style, don't worry there will be extras on the DVD for us to enjoy! I can't wait to see what he does with the movie!

Back to the NME Awards he was the first presenter at their inaugural American Awards show last night, so I guess you can say he popped their cherry and everyone else got his sloppy seconds. BTW he was wearing a Prada suit and Ingmar Berman Shirt from CineFile Video!

Uwe Boll is a f*cking idiot

April 9th, 2008 by

Yes Uwe Boll said he is a f*cking r*tard, but mentally challenged people are better than him so I will not lower them to his level.
As if he is a the only genius in Hollywood, that is why he is making Razzie movies in Germany. Has anyone seen BloodRayne, I would not make worst enemy see that piece of sh!t. Dudes it is one of the movies where you wonder how much worse it can get every few minutes and it doesn’t disappoint…well you know what I mean.
So how dare he go off on Eli Roth, Eli’s (or Elle as Uwe calls him) Cabin Fever was released in 2001 and that movie paved the way for him to be able to release the never-ending dreck House of Dead in 2003.
Here is what Eli Roth posted on his blog in retaliation:

“That is just further proof of what a genius Sasha Baron Cohen is. That’s his best character yet!”

Eli hit it on the nose there, Uwe Boll is a joke!
Seriously can that guy be any angrier? What is problem? Oh yeah he sat through his own movies a lot of times, that is enough to make anyone that stark raving mad.
So please sign the petition to Stop Uwe Boll, we only need 850,000 more signatures. Let’s do something positive for the world and stop him from making movies!

UPDATE: Here is Michael Bay’s response to the video:

I find people who rant like that - calling shit about both me, and George Clooney - comes from someone screaming because he is not being heard. He is obviously a sad being.
When you ask “do I care”? Not in the slightest.

Joe Dante’s Inferno begins tonight at the New Bev!

April 9th, 2008 by

Once again another great writer/director is taking over the New Bev for two weeks in Los Angeles and this one is the brilliant versatile Joe Dante starting tonight. Joe Dante directed Piranha, Gremlins I & II, The Explorers, Innerspace, The ‘burbs and Matinee. Besides showing two of his movies his first feature Hollywood Boulevard on the 11th and his first movie The Movie Orgy (which has been shortened to over 4 hrs from 7) to close the festival on the 22nd, he showing a lot of classics!!! So go and see them all and did I mention all double features are $7 to see both movies, not $7 each movie.
Here are the movies that he is showing and why he chose some of them at the New Bev (Beverly and La Brea) starting tonight!

April 9 + 10 MONDO CANE and ZULU

April 11 + 12 HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD and TRUCK TURNER

We called it “Day For Nothing” when we made it (shot in ten days around footage from 12 other movies on a bet with Roger Corman). One of the last of New World Pictures’ popular “three girl” drive-in movies where pretty girls doff their duds and chase around non-permitted LA locations. The late great Candice Rialson plays a version of herself as a naive Indiana girl trying to make it in scuzzy 70s Hollywood. Pulled from 42nd Street after two days, it seems to have survived as a cult movie. It’s certainly an accurate record of what it was like to make a New World Picture. Producer Jon Davison, co-director Allan Arkush and stars Mary Woronov and Dick Miller are scheduled to appear.

April 13, 14, 15 THE SADIST and THE PRIVATE FILES OF J EDGAR HOOVER -

Fairway-International was a tiny company specializing in grade-C drive-in movies like WILD GUITAR and EEGAH! But from such unlikely soil springs a chilling surprise! James Landis’ intense 1963 drive-in classic is based on the same true crime story as BADLANDS– the serial killing exploits of Charles Starkweather and his underage girlfriend. Brutally unfolding in Real Time over 94 taut minutes, mad killer Arch Hall Jr. terrorizes our small cast in a junkyard — maybe the best-photographed junkyard ever, courtesy of the great Vilmos Zsigmond, who will appear in person on the 15th.

April 16 + 17 THE SECRET INVASION and TOMB OF LIGEIA

TOMB OF LIGEIA was the last of Corman’s popular series of Edgar Allan Poe adaptations, but unlike the others it has many beautiful English countryside exteriors and mostly departs from the stylized stage-bound unreality of its forebears. Robert Towne (CHINATOWN) wrote the script in a more romantic vein, thinking Richard Chamberlain would play the lead–but AIP intervened and sure enough, Vincent Price took over.

April 18 + 19 WRONG IS RIGHT and Mystery Movie

April 20 + 21 BLOOD ON SATAN’S CLAW and HORROR EXPRESS

Piers Haggard’s atmospheric and beautifully photographed (Dick Bush) entry in the burn-the-witches genre benefits from a prolonged sense of dread, literate dialog and an unusually convincing period flavor — sort of a Masterpiece Theater horror film. When hairy patches of “satan’s skin” start cropping up on the bodies of nubile 17th century teenagers, local judge Patrick Wymark intervenes, starting with voluptuous teen temptress Linda Hayden. Less well known than the same studio’s earlier WITCHFINDER GENERAL, but equally effective, with more emphasis on the supernatural. Great score by Marc Wilkinson.

I love train movies. HORROR EXPRESS was made because the producers had access to the train models from NICHOLAS AND ALEXANDRA. One of my very favorite vehicles (get it?) for Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, this Spanish-made extravaganza (also known as Panic on the Trans-Siberian Express) has it all — good characters, lots of wry humor, a mad monk, a mysterious countess, a prehistoric fossilized monster alien, eyeballs in a jar, Telly Savalas as a bellicose Cossack (it’s 1906) and a surprisingly complex science fiction plot. And I left out the zombies! Seriously, this one of my top favorites of all time.

April 22 THE MOVIE ORGY

This the first, one nite only public showing in many years of my first project. In 1968 when “camp” was king, Jon Davison and I put together a counterculture compendium of 16mm bits and pieces (tv show openings, commercials, parts of features, old serials etc.), physically spliced them in ironic juxtapositions and ran the result at the Philadelphia College of Art interspersed with parts of a Bela Lugosi serial. The reaction was phenomenal. This led to The Movie Orgy, a 7-hour marathon of old movie clips and stuff with a crowd-pleasing anti-war, anti-military, anti-establishment slant that played the Fillmore East and on college campuses all over the country for years — always the one print. We called it a 2001-splice odyssey. We kept adding and subtracting material over time so this, alas, is not the original version– it’s the later cutdown, running a mere 4 hours and 19 minutes! But it’s still a pop time capsule that will bring many a nostalgic chuckle from baby boomers and dazed expressions of WTF?! from anyone else.”

There will also be several guests that will be intro’ing and doing Q&A for their movies along with Joe Dante like Roger Corman and Edgar Wright.
We need to keep these revival houses alive, so it is nice that directors like Joe Dante, Eli Roth, Quintin Tarantino and Edgar Wright are taking over the New Bev to show that they believe that these type of theaters need to stay alive. So come and see one of these double features for $7 (you can’t go to 1 new movie for that price let alone two) at the New Bev or go to your local one. As long as we feed them, they will stay alive!!!
BTW please check out Joe Dante’s in genius website Trailers From Hell where directors do commentary on well trailers from hell…

What are Eli Roth and Diablo Cody doing in this picture?

March 28th, 2008 by

I can't figure out how Eli Roth and Diablo Cody struck that pose, can you? BTW I love those men behind them doing what Diablo used to do!

The two were in Vegas last night to help Fergie and Eli's BFF Quentin Taratino celebrate their birthdays together. Fergie is 33 and Taratino is 45.

OMG, I so love Fergie's dress and as you can tell from that body fitting dress, she is not having a little Josh Duhamel any time soon.

Vote for Adam Carolla on DWTS and see him in The Hammer!

March 24th, 2008 by

Adam Carolla has a lot going on these weeks. He is dancing with 2-time DWTS champ Julianne Hough on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, hosting his daily morning radio show, The Adam Carolla Show, and his movie The Hammer, that he is self-distributing, came out on Friday and is doing well in limited release. Not only is the movie doing well in the box office, it is also getting rave reviews. This is a great accomplishment for a movie that doesn’t have a studio behind it. We all need to support these movies because look at what the studios are doing ie. Michael Bay destroying The Birds, Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street. If you want more movies that are original and will make you laugh then run out and see The Hammer over and over again if you want crap go see a remake instead.
The Hammer was written by Kevin Hench who has worked with Carolla since The Man Show and stars Kevin’s wife Heather Juergensen who wrote and starred in Kissing Jessica Stein.
It was the amazing writer and director, Eli Roth, whose work and opinion I have admired for years who brought my attention to this film. A long-time friend of Kevin and Heather, he told me “And even though they are friends and I would support them no matter what, the movie’s really, really, really funny, so I hope people discover it.” And today Eli Roth was on The Adam Carolla Show and he is helping people to discover my blog by giving me a shout out on the show.
Eli Roth - I just have to say THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
BTW I also learned during his interview that Eli’s next movie Trailer Trash is coming out on August 22, so be prepared to hear a lot more about it.
If you want to hear the interview of Eli Roth on The Adam Carolla Show, here it is or check it on The Adam Carolla Show site.

So as thank you to Eli Roth and Adam Carolla…please put all your votes towards Adam and Julianne tonight, run out and see The Hammer and go rent Cabin Fever and Hostel 1 and 2!!!

A trailer from hell…

March 22nd, 2008 by

Eli Roth posted on his blog that he did his first audio commentary from the website Trailers from Hell for the trailer Three on a Meathook and let’s just say he wasn’t kidding that this trailer is from hell. You so have to check out his commentary for the trailer and the others done by Joe Dante, Rick Baker and John Landis to name a few. Seriously this site is so much fun! Enjoy!
BTW I so wish they made trailers today as good as the ones featured on Trailers from Hell, they are too serious these days!

With all that f*cking it was bound to happen. I just wonder if the parent is Ben Affleck or Sarah Silverman. I mean I am asking if Jimmy Kimmel is pregnant because why else would Sarah Silverman be patting his 6-pack abs like that? But seriously how cute are they together?

And here is a photo just for me…Jimmy Kimmel, Eli Roth and my favorite male contestant on Dancing with the Stars 6 who over 40 and under 45 Adam Carolla.

Cabin Fever: A touching story of friendship

March 16th, 2008 by

Every now and again I like to check out the trailer remixes section of iFilm and this time I found this version of Cabin Fever. This trailer was so well done, it will trick people who don’t know what the movie is really about to run out an rent it!
