Motorola’s nearly unattainable AURA gets gobs of hands-on photos

October 27th, 2008 by

Filed under:

When we hear “hands-on,” we generally expect a smattering of images detailing the highlights — you know, about as many as a fidgety PR person will allow, or about as many as one can take before they succumb to self-indulgence. In this “first look” of Motorola’s ridiculously luxurious $2,000 AURA, however, the author not only took the time to detail his first impressions, but to also upload dozens of snapshots to show you exactly what this here handset looks like in just about every possible light. And that’s a good thing too, because the chances of any of us simpletons actually seeing one in the flesh is slim to none.

[Thanks, Drei Drei]

Samsung’s NC10 netbook benchmarked and in the wild

October 11th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Ah, how convenient! Just hours after finding out that Samsung’s NC10 netbook would one day be at home here in the United States of America, along comes a host of unboxing / in the wild photos and even a few benchmarks to get you ready for its arrival. Granted, the writeup is in translated German, but fortunately for us the photographs do most of the talking. For what it’s worth, the 10-inch NC10 seemed to edge out the Eee PC 901 in most tests, but not by any wide margin. Also of note, the keyboard was praised for having keys that weren’t bite-sized, though the trackpad beneath it was a touch on the small side. For a few more impressions and JPEGs penned in the universal language, give that read link a visit.

Mitsubishi’s 65-inch LaserVue L65-A90 gets evaluated

October 9th, 2008 by

We’ll be frank — Mitsubishi’s 65-inch LaserVue L65-A90 was one of the most stunning things we saw at CEDIA 2008, so we’re not surprised to hear that one of the very first production units impressed the lucky folks over at TheTechLounge. Said individuals were able to take a first-hand look at Mitsu’s forthcoming beast, and while the situation was obviously optimal for viewing, they couldn’t help but praise the TV. The demonstration included two LaserVue sets, one of which was displaying 3D 1080p content from an HTPC and another that was setup beside LCDs for comparison. When staring at the aforesaid comparison setup, critics noted that “color performance on the LaserVue was noticeably more impressive.” There’s lots more reaction and images where this came from, so delve on into the read if this here set is on your wish list.

Tom Bihn’s Checkpoint Flyer laptop bag in the wild, reviewed

October 7th, 2008 by

We could tell from the press shot that this here laptop bag was far and away the most beautiful of the TSA-approved bunch, and a recent review over at Gadling confirms it. Put simply, the Tom Bihn Checkpoint Flyer is “fantastic,” and even the reviewer found himself startled at just how much he dug it. The build quality was remarkable, the ease of use was commendable and the design itself was obviously worthy of praise. The only real rub is the bloated sticker; the price of admission is a stiff $220, and that’s before you add in any useful straps or extra packing cubes. Unfortunately, the critic didn’t actually attempt to clear security at an airport with the bag, though we don’t suspect you’ll have any too many difficulties. Check the full writeup and a hands-on gallery in the read link.

T-Mobile G1 spotted in the wild

September 30th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Ah yes, the natural progression of a release. First comes the hands-on at the introduction, then comes the leaked user manual, then comes the pre-order fiasco — now, it’s time for those always titillating in the wild shots. The box and handset are nothing out of the ordinary / surprising (respectively), but at least you now know that bona fide unboxing images are just around the bend.

Nikon’s ritzy D60 Black Gold edition DSLR seen in the wild

September 26th, 2008 by

Filed under:

We’ve seen Pentax put the Midas touch on a few of its DSLRs before, but Nikon? In a rare effort to draw attention to its D60, the outfit has evidently unveiled a “Black Gold” edition which merely adds a few niceties in the way of revamped trim. In other words, you’ll see no upgrades on the camera that aren’t cosmetic, and unless you’re really into that gilded look, you may not even appreciate the Gold Edition strap, logo’d box, gold shutter button / strap lugs and the shiny new D60 badge. Is $50 too much to ask for those puny tweaks? Answer with your wallet, please.

[Thanks, Bo]

Slimmer Xbox 360 spied in the wild? (mystery solved)

September 25th, 2008 by

Filed under:

We received an interesting tip that we thought we’d share with the group. Windows expert and all-around bon vivant Paul Thurrott recently previewed Microsoft’s new Arc mouse on his personal blog, detailing the device with a handful of photos. In the final shot of the series, what appear to be two Xboxes side-by-side can be seen in the lower right-hand corner… but one of those consoles looks thinner than the other. The appearance of what might be a slimmer Xbox 360 has (needless to say) sparked a debate amongst our editors here. Some say it’s nothing — a matter of angle — while others argue that this could be just the scenario in which you’d see a leak of a new form factor. Either way, you can’t simply brush off the differences here, and a little Photoshop matching on our end proved that these edges are decidedly different in angle. So we put it to the Engadget reader: is this a sign of things to come, or just our imaginations running wild?

Update: And we have our answer! Paul Thurrott has gone to the trouble of detailing just exactly what’s going on here, and it is an angle issue. Needless to say, we’ve got a lot of deflated dreams and lightened pockets in the office today.

[Thanks, Brian]

Erector’s WiFi-enabled Spykee Spy Robot unboxed and toyed with

September 24th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Erector’s WiFi-enabled Spykee robot hasn’t even begun to ship to mere mortals just yet, but through some random acts of wizardry, Sven was able to grab hold of one and give it the ole unboxing / impressions treatment (on video, no less). It could be the novelty factor, but he seemed pretty stoked with the whole package, and the clip waiting in the read link gives some real hard-hitting insight as to whether or not this $300 character deserves a spot in your family. Give it a watch, won’t you?

Nokia’s E75 QWERTY slider spotted in the wild

September 21st, 2008 by

Espoo’s usually a pretty cold place, but HTC’s S740 has to feel the heat coming off Nokia headquarters now that the purported E75 slider has been spotted in its natural habitat. We don’t have a ton of information about this thing, but considering the length of time that transpired between the E71’s first spy shot and its release, we do know that we could still be in for a bit of a wait before this thing is announced, much less retailed. If Nokia manages to keep the thickness in check, we’re thinking this could be a fantastic form factor for S60, Eseries or otherwise — and since the phone borrows heavily from the ID of the beautiful E71, we’re optimistic it’s going to be a looker. Let’s just get it out the door in a reasonable amount of time, alright?

T-Mobile G1 (or whatever it’s called) takes in some fresh air

September 19th, 2008 by

digg_url = ‘http://digg.com/gadgets/Android_HTC_Dream_Phone_Detected_in_The_Wild’; Why wait for next Tuesday’s grand unveiling? Well, the short answer is that most of us have no other option — but a small handful of exceptionally lucky individuals are getting their Android on just a little early. This particular example of the G1 (or Dream, Nightmare, Slumber, whatever the hell it’s going to end up being called) allegedly hails from a Google staffer, looking a little less… shall we say, “controversial” than other shots have made it out to be. Yeah, we’re jealous, we admit. Anyone want to give theirs up for a few hours?

Toshiba’s XD-E500 upconverting DVD player caught in stores

September 13th, 2008 by

We’ll apologize on our tipster’s behalf for the quality of this shot, but evidently, he wasn’t able to pass it through Toshiba’s completely mind-boggling XDE upscaling technology before forwarding it onto us. Anyway, we reckon you can get the point — the XD-E500 upconverting DVD player is filtering into stores, so those looking to make their current DVD collection look its best should probably take notice. Or not, whatever.

Pioneer’s KRP-500A and KRP-600A plasmas pose for the cameras

September 12th, 2008 by

Pioneer got official with its 50-inch KRP-500A and 60-inch KRP-600A over in Europe earlier this summer, and just as each set got set to ship, the firm felt it necessary to bring ‘em to Japan. Best of all, AkihabaraNews was able to see just how deep those blacks really were at a recent press event, and it was kind enough to host up a plethora of photographs for us common folk to gaze at. If we just rang your bell, pop down into the links below for specs and images galore.

Sony Ericsson’s W707 Alicia lives again in spy shots

September 12th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Though it may never live the proper life it should have, Sony Ericsson’s now-canned W707 is alive and well in these spy shots. Of course, being that the Alicia is officially dead, you won’t find any updated specifications or a super-secret release date, but the gallery of images in the read link is a mighty fine look at what could’ve been. It’s never too late, SE…

D90 unboxed in semi-secretive fashion

September 6th, 2008 by

Filed under:

If one thing’s clear, this D90 thingy is ready to go. We just got our second set of in-store pictures (thanks, Best Buy!), but these ones include the camera itself, rid of its pesky packaging. Street date is apparently tomorrow, with that $1,299 price standing firm.

Sony’s A900 DSLR caught in the wild

September 6th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Apparently, not only is Sony’s fancy new full-frame DSLR — the A900 — showing up in ad leaks all across the interblogs, but it’s been caught with its lens cover down in real life. An eagle-eyed forum poster managed to snag shots of what appear to be the camera in action, taken in Belgium this August doing what it does best… snapping pictures. There’s not much more to say, but this should thoroughly whet your whistle for the model’s forthcoming introduction, which we can only imagine will be happening sometime around the upcoming Photokina.

Raon Digital’s Everun Note “premium” netbook unboxed on video

September 5th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Alas, it was just last month that the Everun Note got official, and yet here it is already having its packaging torn asunder on video. Raon Digital’s tiny 7-inch offering packs a 1.2GHz AMD Turion CPU, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, and a 12GB SSD. UMPC Portal’s hand model loves the size, build quality, features, and most notably the performance, but we’re still having a hard time getting over the $879 asking price, and that modified keyboard layout with punctuation keys in the upper-right would be a liability in our Friday night blogger WPM deathmatches. (Winner gets the early shift on Monday!) Video after the break.

Nikon D90 box in the wild, anticipation is palpable

September 5th, 2008 by

Filed under:

No matter where you fall in this crazy DSLR war between Canon folks, Nikon folks, Sony folks and “how do you turn this thing on?” folks, there’s no denying the D90 has sparked quite a lot of interest from all the right places. The video feature is just plain exciting, as is Live View and that 3-inch LCD (oh, and we hear it also takes pictures), and Nikon could very well have a hit on its hands when it actually starts shipping the thing. Which is where this box comes in. A tipster says it popped up at his Best Buy, but he’s getting the impression from inventory that it won’t actually be for sale this week. We hope he’s wrong, but we’re almost out of week. Anybody manage to nab one of these yet? Another blurrycam pic after the break.

Sketchy claims, pictures of first AT&T Touch Pro emerge

August 11th, 2008 by

Filed under:

With all the Touch Diamond / Touch Pro news surfacing for these US CDMA carriers, quite a few AT&T subscribers are beginning to get restless. Calm down, folks — it seems the AT&T Touch Pro is a reality waiting to happen after all. Based on some admittedly dodgy claims and even dodgier photographs, one particular soul has apparently paid $900 for a pre-release Touch Pro with North American 3G. Only time will tell if he got duped, but we’re going to believe that AT&T wouldn’t let this gem pass it by for too much longer until proven wrong.

The Dark Knight Xbox 360 spotted in the wild

August 6th, 2008 by

Filed under:

As you’ve surely heard (and hopefully confirmed for yourself) by now, The Dark Knight is a runaway hit. So much so, in fact, that a number of manufacturers have figured it prudent to crank our hardware with the iconic Batman logo front and center. Next in line for admission on the bandwagon seems to be Microsoft, which apparently showed off a “limited edition” (read: likely one of a kind) Dark Knight Xbox 360 over in Taiwan. We know, you want the details — eventual release dates, a price, the works. Unfortunately for us all, we’re stuck with just that image above and hope for the future. Hey, at least you can let your imagination run wild.

Samsung i7110c breaks cover: business in the front, party in the back

August 5th, 2008 by

Filed under:

No, no — Sammy wouldn’t dare dub this the Mullet, although we have a sneaking suspicion it would sell quite well here in the south if such a bold decision were made. Nevertheless, the i7110c (that’s more like it, no?) has just been revealed, and while a great deal of mystery still surrounds it, we are told that it will likely boast a QVGA display, a navigational cube that acts as a cursor controller, 5-megapixel camera (with flash), microSD expansion slot, multimedia player, Bluetooth and an FM tuner. We must say, we’re strangely attracted to the harmonious mix of business-like design cues and consumer-friendly attributes, though it would be nice if Samsung came on out and made this thing official.
