Jean-Michel Jarre designed iPod speakers hit France

There’s certainly no shortage of eye-catching iPod docks / speaker systems to choose from, but this new so-called AeroSystem is the only one to get Jean-Michel Jarre’s stamp of approval, and we’re that’s enough to get at least a few folks to take notice (though we’ll personally stick with our Joy Division Zune). In addition to being a conversation starter, the speaker unit also look to be capable enough audio-wise, with it packing two 20W RMS speakers and a 45W RMS subwoofer into its retro-inspired enclosure, plus a USB port and a 3.5mm jack to complement the requisite iPod dock connector. As far as these things go, it’s also not too ridiculously expensive, with it running €450 (or close to $580), though you’ll likely spend a bit more than that if you hope to get one of these out of France.

Intempo unveils iPod-lovin’ RDi-W / Fusion speaker systems

August 20th, 2008 by

What can we say? Intempo has launched a new pair of iPod-compatible speaker systems, and unless you’re somehow just entering the market for one in the latter half of 2008, chances are you’re already yawning. Nevertheless, the RDi-W (pictured) does distinguish itself somewhat by including support for DAB and wireless internet radio, and there’s a 30-watt internal amplifier to kick out the jams. The much drabber Fusion keeps things small and simple by offering up just 25-watts of power and DAB / FM tuners. Expect the couple to sashay into e-tailers next month for £169.99 ($316) / £99 ($184).

Boston Acoustics reveals Horizon i-DS2 iPod boombox

August 18th, 2008 by

It only takes a glance to realize that Boston Acoustics‘ Horizon i-DS2 iPod boombox is merely a cleaned up version of the knobby Duo-i, but we must say, the new look is pretty sleek. Built to function with any dock-connecting iPod, this 60-watt speaker system includes twin 3.5-inch full-range drivers, a composite video output, USB connector and an auxiliary input for plugging in other DAPs / PMPs. The unit itself arrives in glossy white or glossy black, though users with an itch to customize can select from a variety of P.O.P. metal grilles. On paper, the unit isn’t too shabby, but the $179.99 price tag is somewhat of a drag.

Speakal’s iPig speaker system rolls in the mud with your iPod

For those of you (we know, pretty much everyone in existence) who already picked up a set of Pink Pig PC speakers a few years back, you can carry on with your daily routine. For everyone else that owns an iPod, hold it right there. Speakal is delivering the iPod docking iPig, a unique speaker system that packs five total drivers (including a 4-inch subwoofer), adjustable bass controls, 360-degree sound distribution and a very debatable design. You’ll also find a 3.5-millimeter auxiliary jack for hooking up every other source, and the bundled remote makes it easy to switch tracks and such from your sofa. The only problem? That $139.99 price tag. Check the full release after the jump.

Gear4 Duo iPod speaker system touts removable front panel

May 8th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Gear4 has been known to unleash a few unorthodox speaker systems, but the forthcoming Duo is particularly impressive — in finding a way to somehow differentiate itself in the expansive pool of alternatives, that is. At first glance, it doesn’t appear to differ much from every other one out there, but give that front panel a tug, and off comes a portable speaker system with its own rechargeable batteries, auxiliary port and power supply. When you arrive back, just reattach the magnetically-held panel and listen as the bass kicks in without missing a beat. Apparently the unit is set to go on sale on June 1st for £150 ($290), though we haven’t heard if it’ll ever arrive on US soil.
