iLuv intros the iMM173 dual-dock iPod / iPhone alarm clock

August 27th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Putting two iPhone / iPod docks in an alarm clock is a simple and clever idea that’s so far only shown up in the JVC-PN7 (which we have and love), but it looks like iLuv’s getting in the game as well with the new iMM137. Apart from the two shielded iPhone 3G-compatible docks up top, it’s the usual iLuv kit with 5 watt jAura sound, an aux input, and dual alarms — not a bad deal for an MSRP of $129 that’ll almost certainly be lower at retail when this hits in September.

Sony intros iPod-friendly S-AIRPLAY multi-room audio system

August 21st, 2008 by

Filed under:

You know how it goes with Sony — proprietary just seems to rule the roost. Thankfully, the outfit is at least recognizing a trend in the market by trotting out an iPod-friendly version of its S-AIR wireless audio technology. The new S-AIRPLAY system (formally known as AIR-SA20PK) comes with one iPod docking station and a pair of S-AIR wireless speakers, though there is an AM / FM tuner built in should your stored jams get stale. Sony suggests that music can be beamed some 164-feet away from the dock sans cabling, and so long as your S-AIR speaker is plugged into a power outlet (and within the aforementioned range), it’ll pick up the signal and start talkin’. Look for the kit to land next month for around $400, while additional S-AIR wireless speakers will set you back $130 apiece. Full release after the break.

Intempo unveils iPod-lovin’ RDi-W / Fusion speaker systems

August 20th, 2008 by

Filed under:

What can we say? Intempo has launched a new pair of iPod-compatible speaker systems, and unless you’re somehow just entering the market for one in the latter half of 2008, chances are you’re already yawning. Nevertheless, the RDi-W (pictured) does distinguish itself somewhat by including support for DAB and wireless internet radio, and there’s a 30-watt internal amplifier to kick out the jams. The much drabber Fusion keeps things small and simple by offering up just 25-watts of power and DAB / FM tuners. Expect the couple to sashay into e-tailers next month for £169.99 ($316) / £99 ($184).

Boston Acoustics reveals Horizon i-DS2 iPod boombox

August 18th, 2008 by

It only takes a glance to realize that Boston Acoustics‘ Horizon i-DS2 iPod boombox is merely a cleaned up version of the knobby Duo-i, but we must say, the new look is pretty sleek. Built to function with any dock-connecting iPod, this 60-watt speaker system includes twin 3.5-inch full-range drivers, a composite video output, USB connector and an auxiliary input for plugging in other DAPs / PMPs. The unit itself arrives in glossy white or glossy black, though users with an itch to customize can select from a variety of P.O.P. metal grilles. On paper, the unit isn’t too shabby, but the $179.99 price tag is somewhat of a drag.

Revo’s Blik RadioStation gets iPod dock, becomes iBlik RadioStation

July 25th, 2008 by

Apparently looking to give Bose a run for its money when it comes to long overdue product upgrades, Revo has now finally seen fit to gift its Blik RadioStation with an iPod dock, a move that follows its similarly risky forays into the rarely explored fields of WiFi and DAB radio. Apart from that welcome addition, however, this newly-dubbed iBlik RadioStation looks to be identical to its most recent predecessor, with it packing the same WiFi and DAB as before and, of course, the same love-it-or-hate-it styling. If that’s a bit too much for you to handle, Revo has also kindly introduced the DAB-less iBlik WiFi, which will set you back £130 (or about $260), as opposed to the £180 (or $360) the full blown iBlik RadioStation will run you. Look for both of ‘em to hit Europe next month.

JVC rolls out NX-PN7 dual iPod docking station

June 23rd, 2008 by

Filed under:

JVC was showing off its NX-PN7 dual iPod dock way back at a CES at the beginning of this year, but it looks like it’s just now gotten its act together and finally pushed the thing out the door. It doesn’t seem like much has changed in the ensuing months, however, with the dock still boasting the same ability to not only charge two iPods (or iPhones) at the same time, but playback each one through the unit’s speakers or have each one go off at two separate times with the tune of your choice. Otherwise, you can rest assured that you’ll be getting the usual FM tuner, as well as a standard analog audio input for your non-Apple audio devices and a video output for some larger screen viewing of your iPod’s contents. If that sounds like just the dock you’ve been waiting for, you can snag one now for $150.

[Thanks, T.I.]

Griffin PowerDock 2 charges iPhones and iPods two-at-a-time

May 30th, 2008 by

In case you’re not swimming in Apple gear just yet (wait ’til the kids come…), Griffin Technology has just released a more modest solution to charging “just” a pair of iPhones / iPods or one of each. The two-port PowerDock 2 features a pair of universal docks and a collection of dock inserts to ensure that almost every iPod (and the iPhone) can get a seat at the table. It’s available as we speak for $49.95.

Harman Kardon intros The Bridge II iPod / iPhone docking station

May 29th, 2008 by

Almost three years after The Bridge was unveiled, the unit’s successor has finally emerged. Harman Kardon chose today to announce the simplistically named The Bridge II, which effectively connects compatible iPods and the iPhone to any H/K The Bridge-ready component. Once connected, you’ll find obligatory audio / video playback through your home entertainment system as well as on-screen iPod menus, remote control operation and charging. Folks looking for the standalone unit can acquire one this summer for $129, though it will be bundled right in with the AVR 354 receiver.

Orbitsound rolls out tube-based T6 iPod dock

May 27th, 2008 by

It’s far from the first dock of its kind, but those that just can’t get enough of that warm vacuum tube sound now have a new option to consider courtesy of Orbitsound, which is set to roll out its new T6 iPod dock. This one apparently combines those tried and true tubes with Orbitsound’s trademark single-speaker AirSOUND technology, which the company boldly proclaims is nothing short of “life changing.” So as not to let anyone out of that not at all overstated experience, the dock also comes equipped with standard 3.5 mm inputs and outputs in addition to an iPod dock to accommodate your various devices, as well as a video output and, of course, a remote control. No word on a price, but you can look for this one to start shipping sometime next month.

Vita Audio adds a splash of luxury to R4 iPod / DAB radio

May 12th, 2008 by

Nothing says sexy like a sleek wood trim, wouldn’t you wholeheartedly agree? Vita Audio obviously does, as it’s £499.99 ($980) R4 integrated music system just screams lavish. The all-in-one unit packs an iPod dock, slot-loading CD / MP3 / WMA-music disc player, USB port, DAB and FM tuner with RDS, front and rear auxiliary ports, built-in display, alarm clock function and the firm’s detachable RotoDial remote. For those not feeling the rich walnut veneer, there’s also a high-gloss white (surprised?) version available for £50 ($97) more. Sadly, the “coming soon” tidbit leaves us clueless as to how long you actually have left to save up for either of the pricey systems.

Gear4 Duo iPod speaker system touts removable front panel

May 8th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Gear4 has been known to unleash a few unorthodox speaker systems, but the forthcoming Duo is particularly impressive — in finding a way to somehow differentiate itself in the expansive pool of alternatives, that is. At first glance, it doesn’t appear to differ much from every other one out there, but give that front panel a tug, and off comes a portable speaker system with its own rechargeable batteries, auxiliary port and power supply. When you arrive back, just reattach the magnetically-held panel and listen as the bass kicks in without missing a beat. Apparently the unit is set to go on sale on June 1st for £150 ($290), though we haven’t heard if it’ll ever arrive on US soil.

iLuv kicks out i168 and i169 HD Radio alarm clocks

April 30th, 2008 by

Something’s really wrong with the world if more than a few months pass by without a new iPod alarm clock from iLuv, so we suppose everyone’s a-okay for a few more months now. Announced today, the firm has introduced its first pair of HD Radio clocks, and sure enough, one of ‘em plays nice with Cupertino’s darling. The i169 would be that player, which offers up a mostly black motif, dual stereo speakers, remote, iPod dock, AM / FM / HD Radio reception, an auxiliary input and dual alarm settings for good measure. As for the currently available i168, it provides most everything you read up there sans the iPod compatibility, but then again, it only demands $89.99. What about the i169, you ask? It’ll set you back a cool $169.99 when it lands in “early May.” Full release waiting after the break.

Copulare’s $2,350 iCoral iPod dock is just as absurd as you think

April 7th, 2008 by

Filed under:

To be honest, JVC’s P-Series LCD line may still hold the crown for most expensive iPod dock, but at least it comes with an expansive 1080p panel, right? Pushing aside a number of a worthy opponents on its charge to most absurd / unnecessary iPod dock evar, the iCoral supposedly features a top plate constructed from artificial coral and is proudly decorated with a “very artistic design” (Copulare’s words, not ours). ‘Round back, you’ll find USB, S-Video and stereo analog outputs, but we’re simply not seeing the slit in which your currency of choice comes out of at the press of a button. Due to that unfortunate omission, we’re suggesting you hold tight to your €1,500 ($2,355) — unless you’re one David Beckham, of course.

iHome’s iH69 computer / iPod speakers

March 26th, 2008 by

We’ve seen a number of iPod speakers with pass-through dock connectors, but we’ve never really understood the point — why would we listen to music on our iPod when we’re already sitting at the computer, which has better speakers? iHome’s latest rig, the iH69, tries to bring it all together, though, with an iPod dock integrated directly into a set of upright computer speakers. We’re not sold on the idea until we actually hear ‘em — or we get a sub in the deal — but those of you looking to save on some cable clutter should look for these bad boys to drop sometime in June.

Creative set to release X-Fi-equipped X30 iPod dock

March 14th, 2008 by

It’s been a little while since we’ve seen a new X-Fi device from Creative, but it looks like the company’s now set to expand it’s audio-enhancing empire a bit further, with its new X30 iPod dock apparently nearly ready for a release. While there’s unfortunately no wireless streaming going on here, the dock will at least let you hook your iPod up to a stereo or pair of speakers, as well as a TV thanks to the dock’s s-video port, with that much-hyped X-Fi technology promising to make everything sound better than ever. Look for this one to set you back just under €80 (or about $125) when it hits Europe next month — no word on a release ’round these parts just yet.

Krell, MartinLogan ElectroKID bundle takes iPod docks to new levels of excess

March 11th, 2008 by

We’ve seen extravagant iPod docks before, but this Krell and MartinLogan “ElectroKID” bundle put together by the folks at Absolute Sounds makes just about all those other pretenders pale in comparison. At the heart of things here is the Krell KID iPod dock, which boasts ” top-quality preamp circuitry” and is also available separately for a mere £1,350 (or about $2,700). That gets teamed up with a pair of MartinLogan Purity floorstanding speakers (£2,390, or $4,800 on their own), which each pack their own 200W power amp and, as you can see, make quite the statement in any room you place ‘me in. If that’s sounds like the missing piece to your iPod puzzle, you can get the complete system now for £3,740, or just over $7,500 (that’s right, not even a discount to entice you).

Edifier packs 7-inch LCD into iF380 stereo, shows off Rainbow IR audio system

March 4th, 2008 by

We’re used to large quantities of “me too” design and product from most smaller manufacturers — with China hosting some of the worst offenders — but Edifier is breaking the mold with a couple of new home audio products. The Chinese company has put quite a bit of thought and design into its “Active IR” Rainbow wireless audio system, which uses a wide IR spectrum for ultra-low-loss uncompressed digital transmission. All it takes is a 3.5mm input and you’re set, with transmissions from the base station to receivers working at up to 15 meters. The sound is supposedly CD quality, and it certainly sounded good to our ears. The other item of note is the iF380 iPod dock (pictured), which includes a 7-inch LCD, SD card and USB inputs, and some 25 Watt speakers. The €350 pricetag might be hard to swallow when this rolls around in July, but the unit is certainly quite a bit sexier than its competition.
