Steve Ballmer, Steve Ballmer’s fists to deliver CES keynote

August 30th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Are you ready to really let loose at this year’s CES? If you said yes, then you’ll be stoked as hell to know that our main man Steve Ballmer will be taking over Bill Gates’ famous keynotes. You read that right, the scariest fratbanger this side of your last toga party will be stepping up to the plate in what we can only hope will be the kind of explosive performance we’ve come to expect from him. Other keynoters will be the handsome Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer and Alan Mulally, president and CEO of Ford. Here’s hoping Gates at least drops by for a cameo — it just won’t seem like CES without him.

Deliver a keynote like Steve Jobs in ten simple steps

January 27th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Are you a CEO hoping to “step it up,” “knock it out of the park,” and generally “take it to the bridge” — old-school style — but you can’t seem to work the magic? Well, BusinessWeek has got just the thing for you: a ten-point plan on how to deliver a presentation like our main man, Steve Jobs. Breaking it down from “set a theme” all the way to “rehearse, rehearse, rehearse,” the cats at BW lay out everything you need to know to shatter sales records, hike your stock, and innovate the hell out of a keynote. Of course, they don’t advise you on choice of outfits (we suggest jeans, sneakers, and a turtleneck), products to launch (how does iPhone 2 sound to you?), or how to properly execute a “Boom!” (”Boom!”) — but we’re pretty sure you can suss those details out on your own. If you want the full breakdown of tips and tricks, including how to properly appear excited about your own products, hit the read link ASAP. To help you along, we’ve included a clip of Jobs doing his thing after the break. Boom!

Final Macworld predictions?

January 14th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Tomorrow morning the tech world will tune in as Steve gets on stage to kick off another Macworld expo — an event Apple usually uses for only its biggest product announcements. There are all kind of crazy rumors going around, but this year there are a few picks that have seem to stuck: an ultraportable MacBook (Pro) of some kind, iTunes movie rentals, and, of course, the iPhone SDK. But what rabbit will El Jobso pull out of his hat marked one-more-thing? Find out tomorrow when we bring you our live coverage at 9AM PT (and check out other local times here).

Macworld 2008 keynote leaked? Nope, not a chance.

January 14th, 2008 by

Filed under:

For those not paying attention, there’s a “leaked” Macworld 2008 keynote making the rounds today, and we’d just like to make sure you know it’s completely and utterly false. Not only is it one of many fabricated keynotes making the rounds this year, and part of an annual ritual of keynote fabrications, but it even manages to be self-damning with its listing of a Mac Pro refresh — which obviously happened last week. Let’s try a little harder, people!

Bill Gates: live at his 12th and final CES keynote

January 6th, 2008 by

We’re here! Yeah, a bit early, but this place fills some 6,000+ people. Crazy to think that this will probably be the last time Gates ever gets up on stage at CES — at least it’ll definitely be his last hurrah up there as Chairman of Microsoft.

6:25PM
PT - Ok! “Ladies and gentlemen, the keynote will begin in five minutes, take your seats please.”

6:28PM PT - Two minutes. “PLEASE take your seats.” Let’s not keep North America’s 2nd richest man waiting, shall we?

6:30PM PT - Here we go! Lights are down, harp music.

6:30PM PT - Showing a CES promo video. All about the square footage, bajillions of attendees, keynote speakers — oh, the hype.

6:33PM PT
- “Ladies and gentlemen, president and CEO of the CEA, Gary Shapiro!” Mild applause. “Happy new year, and welcome to 2008 CES!”

“In my opinion, these are the best four days of the year. The floor officially opens tomorrow morning for the ribbon cutting, with cutting edge product…” Woops, teleprompter mistake in there, sorry Gary. Talking about keynotes, the CE industry forecast, and so on.

6:36PM PT - “We’re hosting a new program this year…” — Technologies in emerging countries. “And now, I’m honored to kick off 2008 CES with Microsoft’s chairman, Bill Gates.” Applause! Bill! “He’s spoken at CES 11 times… clearly Bill’s changed the world, and he’s brought his vision to hundreds of millions. His story is legendary.”

6:36PM PT
- Xbox, Media PC, Smartphone… all products Microsoft’s announced at CES. “Microsoft aims to provide the tools to let people connect no matter where they are. … He’s also the world’s most successful philanthropist. … I am proud to introduce to you… Bill Gates!” Big applause! Retro tech video playing before Bill’s on.

6:38PM PT
- People love playing Xbox 360, using their Media PCs, Smartphones, and Zunes alright. “Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Chairman of Microsoft, Bill Gates!” That’s the what, third, fourth time he’s been introduced?

Dell’s Latitude XT and XPS ONE make first public appearance

November 14th, 2007 by

Dell fans, we’ve got some juicy meat for you to sink your teeth into. During Michael Dell’s keynote address at Oracle OpenWorld today, the company unleashed (or at least demoed) its forthcoming all-in-one PC, creatively named the XPS One. Of course, we’ve been hearing rumblings about the One for some time now, but Dell also whipped out its sparkly new Latitude XT tablet, which should please all the Gatesian types out there who think TPCs are the future. But wait — there’s more! The new Latitude isn’t just some plain-jane scratchpad. Besides being the thinnest in its 12.1-inch, convertible category, and having a screen which is 25-percent brighter than the competition… it’s multi-touch. At the keynote, the Dell folks demonstrated a multiple-finger paint program, which lets you draw five simultaneous lines, and also showcased a Surface-like photo viewer which allows you to scramble, resize, and generally get physical with your fond memories. Check the pictures of the tablet in action after the break and feel its magical vibes.
