We genuinely hope you don’t value your dash very much, because a great deal of it will vanish if you opt to install KNGT’s icom MK1.The full-fledged car computer wows passengers and drivers alike with its 6.95-inch 800 x 480 resolution display, on-screen QWERTY keyboard, wireless connectivity and mobile TV (T-DMB) tuner. Furthermore, you’ll find a 40GB / 80GB hard drive, upwards of 2GB of RAM, a few USB 2.0 ports, a 1.6GHz Intel CPU and Windows XP running the show. You know all those threats you made when you were younger about heading out and just living in your ‘79 Riviera? Following through just got a whole lot easier.

Samsung U4 DAP emerges on Korean website

July 6th, 2008 by

Filed under:

If you found yourself infatuated with Samsung’s YP-U3, you’re sure to love the U4… we think. There’s a complete dearth of information regarding the device itself, but given that it already has a placeholder and image on the outfit’s Korean Yepp site, we’d say there’s a pretty good chance it’ll be getting real soon enough. Hold tight, miniature DAP lovers, Sammy won’t keep you in the dark much longer.

Introducing Engadget Korean and German!

July 3rd, 2008 by

Filed under:

Remember how when we launched Engadget Poland a couple weeks ago we said that we were just getting started rolling out new international versions of the site? Well, today we’re announcing two exciting new Engadgets we’ve waited for years to get started: Korean and German! They’re both in beta, so to speak, so try not to mind the sawdust as we work out the kinks. Big ups to Brian, Jason, Manfred, and everyone at our international teams that made these new sites possible. Oh, and if you’re waiting for Engadget in your language of choice, don’t worry, Korean and German aren’t the last we’ll be rolling out!

WithView’s HM-U500 do-it-all handles DMB, makes Americans envious

January 29th, 2008 by

Yeah, we Americans have some pretty fancy toys to play with, but we still can’t help but feel a touch slighted each time one of these beauties emerges from South Korea. WithView’s HM-U500 sports a whole lot of screen and not much bezel, an ultrathin design and a 4.3-inch 480 x 272 resolution panel. Reportedly, the unit is available in 4GB and 8GB iterations and features an SD expansion slot, built-in camera, a kickstand, headphone jack, a T-DMB tuner, e-dictionary, and support for MP3, WMV, OGG, JPG, BMP, PNG and AVI file formats. No word on a price or anything, but for the US crowd who can’t just hop on the next flight to Seoul to pick one up, we’re probably better off not knowing.

Inkel intros the W-700 PMP / GPS navigator

December 22nd, 2007 by

We see a ton (literally) of PMPs and GPS units these days, and nearly all of them seriously lack style. As far as we can tell, the same can’t be said for the Inkel W-700, a combo satnav and digital audio / video player that really makes us wish we were in Korea right now. With a dual core CPU setup, 128MB of RAM, T-DMB support, the trusty SiRF Star III GPS chip, a spacious 7-inch 800 x 400 Samsung LCD touchscreen, and a price tag hovering around $500, it sounds like a steal, right? Still, we’re going to wait for US maps and a demo of the OS before we plunk down any cold, hard Engadget dollars for one.

Korean researcher hopes to build ferroelectric RAM

October 19th, 2007 by

Filed under:

If you’ve fantasized about how wonderful your life could be if the merits of DRAM, SRAM and Flash memory could all be mixed harmoniously into one “dream semiconductor,” listen up. You may not be up to speed on all the advancements in ferroelectric materials, but we’re pretty sure even the technological newbie could appreciate a new discovery by Korean researcher Dr. Shin Young-han. Reportedly, this fellow has “succeeded in figuring out the operational mechanism of ferroelectrics,” which could potentially lead to FeRAM — a technology that could “store data ten times faster than Flash memory and keep it for longer than ten years.” Kudos to you, Dr. Young-han, now let’s get this stuff on the production line, shall we?
