Fujitsu’s LifeBook P8020 12.1-inch ultraportable wars against the dreaded screen bezel

October 20th, 2008 by

Filed under:

From what we can tell, Fujitsu’s spent the industrial design budget for the LifeBook P8020 on one thing and one thing only: trimming those sides. We really do love to see a laptop with a keyboard and screen flush with the edges, seemingly wasting zero space. The resulting product is a tad chubby (1.1- to 1.5-inches) and lacks a certain charm, but there’s all sorts of goodies under the hood, and the 2.9 pound weight is certainly passable. The 12.1-inch ultraportable packs a Centrino 2 processor, 320GB HDD (or a 64GB or 128GB SSD), 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, gigabit Ethernet, a fingerprint reader, DVD burner, gesture-friendly trackpad and a 1.3 megapixel webcam. There’s also a 6-cell battery and no 3G to drain it, so you should be able to expect some decent battery life when this hits in November, with a starting price of $1,799.

Fujitsu 8.9-inch LifeBook P1630 sashays into the FCC’s lair

September 1st, 2008 by

Filed under:

Fujitsu’s looking to keep its typically small and light P-series alive by dumping the wee P1630 into the FCC’s oh-so-capable hands. Based on the filed documentation, the unit will possess a 8.9-inch 1,280 x 768 resolution display, a 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo SU9400 processor, Intel’s GMA X4500 graphics set, up to 2GB of RAM, a fingerprint reader, WiFi / Bluetooth, Ethernet and a smattering of ports including SD, VGA out, USB (x2) and PCMCIA. The 2.2-pound lappie doesn’t have any sort of official price or release date, but eager LifeBook fanatics can rest assured that it’s closer to commercial release today than it was yesterday. Er, before it hit the FCC. Never mind.

Fujitsu’s U2010 goes for 11 hours strong with extended battery

August 21st, 2008 by

Fujitsu’s cute-as-a-button U2010 (or U820, for you USers) was shown off over in Japan at a company event, and while most of the specifications were already hammered out, one particular tidbit at AkihabaraNews took us by surprise. With seemingly every other netbook out there getting blasted for lackluster battery life, the U2010 will reportedly support an extended cell that offers up 11.1 hours of run time. We’ve no idea if that’s a “maximum” number based on “optimal” usage, but no matter how you dice it, it sure beats the (also respectable) 5.3 hour rating given to the standard battery.

Fujitsu LifeBook U2010 gets official in five different colors

August 8th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Fujitsu has been showing off its LifeBook U2010 netbook / convertible laptop for some time now, but it’s just now getting completely official with it, and it’s taken the opportunity to reveal all five colors we can expect to see the laptop available in. That includes the basic black option we’ve been seeing all along (now called Ocean Black), as well as Pink Gold, Cool Silver, Fuschia Red, and Luminous Blue. Otherwise, the laptop’s specs look to be in line with what we’ve been expecting, including a 1.6GHz Atom processor, a 5.6-inch WXGA display, an optional 64GB SSD drive (or a standard 60GB hard drive), a promised 8 hours of battery life from the extended battery, and the usual built-in 1.3-megapixel webcam. Still no final word on a price though, or any indication of a release date for the US-centric U820 model, which the FCC has already kindly let out of the bag.

Fujitsu’s Lifebook U2010 headed to the US as the U820

August 4th, 2008 by

Filed under:

If you’ve been squirming around like you’ve got ants in your pants wondering if Fujitsu’s tiny Lifebook U2010 was going to make its way Stateside — feel free to relax. Word on the street — and from the FCC — is that the diminutive and convertible laptop will come to our fair shores as the U820. The device actually gets a bump in the screen department, featuring a 1280 x 800 display as opposed to the previous specs we had detailing a 1024 x 600 touchscreen. Hit the read link to learn pretty much everything you could ever hope to know about the laptop… and then some.

[Thanks, Will O.]

We’ve caught a few glimpses of Fujitsu’s Lifebook U2010 in the past, but now we’ve got a whole handful of new shots of the crazy-versatile device, plus some fresh video and actual, honest-to-goodness specs. According to a Vietnamese forum, the miniature laptop / tablet will feature an Intel Atom CPU (at 1.6GHz or 1.8GHz), a 5.6-inch 1024 x 768 display, an 80GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, a 3G radio, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, and will weigh 680 grams (about 1.5 lbs). No word on a street date or regions for the device right now, but the price is said to clock in around a hefty $1300.

Unknown Fujitsu LifeBook tablet spotted in Germany

April 30th, 2008 by

It looks like Fujitsu has itself a new tablet in the cooker. This here LifeBook Tablet PC was spotted recently in Germany, and is running one of those super-small P-series processors from Intel, the Core 2 Duo P8400. The laptop sports a 13.3-inch passive digitizer display and an all-new look from Fujitsu — which we’re a little meh about, to tell you the truth. No word if this is a replacement for Fujitsu’s storied T2010 tablets, or something completely different, but we don’t expect to be in the dark long… this is the information age, friend.

For those out there (yes, we know you’re out there) who’ve been refreshing Fujitsu’s online webstore like mad just waiting for its cute-as-a-button LifeBook P8010 to become available — well, we’re probably telling you something you’re already quite aware of. Nevertheless, we’re sure everyone else not totally infatuated with the aforementioned machine (but still keenly interested in it) would love to know that it has indeed escaped from the FCC’s lair and is now ready to be shipped to your door. Thankfully, Fujitsu will let you customize it to the hilt, but those looking to get in and out can snap up a low-end configuration for $1,699.

Fujitsu’s LifeBook P1620 is lighter than (MacBook) Air

January 18th, 2008 by

Fujitsu’s P1620 was just announced with a Stateside price starting at $1,599. This quicker update to the highly praised P1610 boasts a new ULV 1.2GHz U7600 Core 2 Duo processor with up to 2GB of memory and 100GB of disk — a respectable bump from the old 1.2GHz Core Solo and 1GB memory and 80GB disk limit. The rest of the specs appear unchanged which is fine by us: 8.9-inch 1,280 x 768 display, a $299 32GB SSD option, and standard 3-cell battery (6-cell for a worthy $45) which delivers 3.5-hours under real-world stress. Ships standard with XP Tablet PC though Vista is a $0 option.

Fujitsu’s LifeBook S6510 gets reviewed

November 20th, 2007 by

Filed under:

Fujitsu’s LifeBook S6510, which we just caught wind of earlier this month, has made its way over to Notebook Review not a moment too soon, and the kind folks over there have put the machine through its paces in order to give you the skinny. As expected, reviewers marveled at the thinness of the 14.1-inch lappie, and even with the optical drive loaded in, they were delighted to find that it only weighed four pounds. Additionally, it was stated that the S6510 was surprisingly rigid, and while the LCD didn’t exactly live up to the standards Fujitsu has set for itself, it was far from abysmal. Furthermore, the unit performed admirably in a plethora of tests, the keyboard was a joy to use and the battery life was right on par. Notably, the unit did emit quite a bit of heat, but all in all, this LifeBook should certainly fit the bill if you’re looking for a business laptop that won’t add any undue strain on your back.

[Thanks, Susan]

Fujitsu’s newest LifeBook, the 14-inch S7211

November 6th, 2007 by

Filed under:

Fujitsu’s been pretty quietly pumping out some relatively sweet laptops recently, and the company’s latest effort, the LifeBook S7211, is no exception. The 14-inch machine features a 1.5GHz T5250 Core 2 Duo processor, integrated X3100 graphics, 1GB of RAM and 120GB of storage, WiFi, Bluetooth, integrated webcam, a spill-resistant keyboard, and a 4-hour battery life. What’s more, the dual-layer burner sits in a modular expansion bay, which allows it to be removed and replaced with either an additional battery or an empty shell to cut weight. Pricing starts at $899 and ranges up to around $1100 depending on options, and Fujitsu says they’re available now.

Fujitsu launches the SlimEdge Lifebook S6510

November 2nd, 2007 by

Filed under:

Fujitsu, known to lovingly produce a laptop from time to time, has once again stepped into the fray with a new offering in its Lifebook line. The company has just announced the Lifebook S6510 (in China, at least), and it’s somehow managed to squeeze a 14.1-inch display into the “SlimEdge” casing which would typically house a 13.3-inch system. Besides the medical-marvel that is the LED-backlight WXGA display, the laptop features a Core 2 Duo T7700 or T7500, the illustrious 965GM Express chipset, an Intel PRO / Wireless 4965AGN/3945BG WiFi card, Intel GMA X3100 GPU, 160GB hard drive, 2GB of RAM (upgradable to 4GB), and a DVD “Super Multi Burner.” We’re not sure these figures are accurate, but Engadget China has the T7500 model clocking in at a whopping 72,800 yuan, while the T7700 will run you 76,800 yuan, which is pretty steep for a laptop. Of course, if you really want one, you’ll probably have to hit up your local importer… or book a flight.

Update: So our main man Atticus from Engadget China has confirmed, the price is in Taiwanese dollars, thus making the US cost around $2,247 and $2,370 respectively.

Fujitsu’s new LifeBook A6110 15.4-inch laptop

October 18th, 2007 by

Filed under:

There’s nothing here to get too excited about, but Fujitsu has a solid sub-$900 unit on its hands in the LifeBook A6110. The 15.4-inch laptop includes all the traditionals, like an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, Intel 802.11n WiFi, a built-in webcam, SD card slot, FireWire and a DVD burner. What is almost exciting is the inclusion of both ExpressCard and PC Card expansion slots, but the disappointment of Intel X3100 integrated graphics in this form factor kind of negates that — though you still can’t really grumble about the $849 (after a $50 rebate) pricetag. The A6110 should be available now.

Fujitsu unveils 15.4-inch LifeBook V1010 for the budget-minded

October 9th, 2007 by

Filed under:

Although it’s no $300 Gateway, Fujitsu’s LifeBook V1010 does manage to come with a bit more oomph than the aforementioned cheapie. Designed for “price-conscious markets,” this machine can be had starting at $799, and it offers up a 15.4-inch WXGA panel, 1.86GHz Intel T2130 processor, Windows XP, GMA 950 graphics set, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 120GB SATA drive, 59k modem / Ethernet, 802.11a/b/g support, a dual-layer DVD writer, and a six-cell Li-ion rated for 2.25-hours of usage. Granted, you can spend more than eight Benjamins if you’d like, but at least the base configuration won’t break the bank too badly.
