Beatles Collector’s Box includes limited edition 120GB iPod classic, leaves the ripping to you

October 22nd, 2008 by

Listen up, Ringo Beatles fans — your holiday gift has just been located, and it’s on aisle 17 in Bloomingdale’s. The somewhat janky limited edition collector’s box is a dream come true for fanatics of the Fab Four, packing 13 original Beatles’ CDs, an engraved guitar pick, two masters and the “Love” CD — none of which are available via the iTunes Music Store, mind you. Just 2,500 of the $795 sets are available, but — humorously enough — you’ll be stuck ripping and transferring every last disc onto your individually numbered, etched-with-a-Beatles-logo 120GB iPod classic. Ah well, at least this scenario lets you choose your own bitrate, right?

HP offers up Special Edition Pavilion dv4t and dv5t

October 4th, 2008 by

Filed under:

HP’s got the Special Edition itch again, and it’s scratching it with both hands as evidenced by the newest dv4t and dv5t SE notebooks. Starting with the former, we’ve got a flashily designed 14.1-incher with a WXGA panel, 4GB of DDR2 RAM, a handful of Core 2 Duo CPU choices, NVIDIA’s 512MB GeForce 9200M GS, up to 400GB of hard drive space, WiFi, optional WWAN and an integrated HDTV hybrid tuner. The equally fashionable Pavilion dv5t SE sports a 15.4-inch LCD, a GMA4500MHD integrated graphics set, optional Blu-ray writer and most everything already mentioned on its smaller sibling. You can snatch either of these up for $1,099.99 / $949 (or higher) right now, but we’d make sure you really dig the tattoos before making a decision you’ll regret forever.

Limited edition red ‘Resident Evil Code: Veronica’ Dreamcast pops up on eBay

October 3rd, 2008 by

Filed under:

Console collectors know good and well that Sega dished out a few less-than-easily-attainable versions of the Dreamcast back in the day, but only the hardest of hardcore fanatics are apt to have one this bad boy. Just 1,800 of these limited edition bundles were made, which feature an atypical Code: Veronica box, a translucent red version of the Japanese console, a matching controller, a copy of Biohazard Code: Veronica (Japan’s version of Resident Evil Code: Veronica), all the traditional connection cables and a huge dose of bragging rights. Number 280 out of the 1,800 units can be yours right now for the low, low asking price of $800, and believe us, we don’t foresee this one hanging around sans an owner for too much longer.

Microsoft ships red wireless Xbox 360 controller for the holidays

September 30th, 2008 by

Here’s an interesting one. That red / black Xbox 360 controller that was showcased back in July is now available to any ole consumer in the US, Canada, Latin America New Zealand and Asia, and it comes bundled with a Play & Charge Kit and red rechargeable battery for $64.99. For whatever reason, Microsoft’s totally missing a golden opportunity to cash in on the holiday shopping season by reserving the green counterpart as some “promotional item.” C’mon guys, is it really that hard to understand how irresistible a red and green gamepad tandem would be in late December?

Sony reveals limited edition 007 VAIO TT, USB Micro Vault and Reader Digital Book

September 29th, 2008 by

In a move to pump up the impending theater debut of Quantum of Solace, Sony is simultaneously opening up a new promotional game and introducing a few new pieces of limited edition gear. Obviously, we’re a touch more concerned with the kit than the game, so we’ll skip over those details and head right to the meat of it. The outfit will be offering up 100 limited run VAIO TT laptops that are emblazoned with a 007 logo on the palm rest and a matching leather protection case. Additionally, a Special Edition Bond bundle for the Reader Digital Book will feature an embossed cover with a 007 logo and coupon codes for free downloads of Ian Fleming’s novels Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. Lastly, we’ve got the 007 USB Micro Vault in 8GB and 16GB flavors, both of which come pre-loaded with the Quantum of Solace trailer and other miscellaneous “bonus content.” Wild guesses as to price / release dates are being accepted now.

In keeping with a time-honored gadget tradition, a new paint job for the Nintendo DS Lite has surfaced: the Limited Edition Pink Ribbon — not just for girls mind you, breast cancer affects us all. Limited Edition LC-52XS1U-S / LC-65XS1U-S AQUOS LCD HDTVs loosed by Sharp

September 3rd, 2008 by

Though making a limited run of LCD HDTVs seems like a curious choice, Sharp is unleashing two of ‘em (again) today in Denver. The 52-inch LC-52XS1U-S and 65-inch LC-65XS1U-S both sport newly-developed 10-bit Advanced Super View (ASV) LCD panels and feature native 1080p resolutions, AQUOS Net capabilities, an RGB-LED backlight system and a dynamic contrast ratio of over 1,000,000:1. You’ll also find a super thin integrated sound system powered by a 1-bit digital amplifier, and the entire set is just one-inch thick at its thinnest part. Of note, these units come bundled with a separate AVC system set-top-box for handling inputs, though WHDI was unfortunately left out. Catch the pair this October for currently undisclosed prices, and peep the full release just after the cut.

Soulja Boy plays with Xbox 360 Special Edition Sidekick LX, pleads for attention on video

August 22nd, 2008 by

Filed under:

Why lust after a Zunephone when you can have an Xbox 360 Sidekick LX? Based on an admittedly bizarre and entirely painful-to-watch video posted up in the read link, Soulja Boy is seen spazzing out over what appears to be a special edition Sidekick LX. The unit is branded (at least in the software) with Xbox 360 logos, and there’s also a copy of Resident Evil: Genesis on there that he toys with momentarily. So, the question here: is this thing legit? On one hand, Danger does have a thing for pumping out limited run Sidekicks like they’re going out of style, and plus, it would probably have a hard time convincing an A-list rapper to carry a prototype Sidekick. On the other, we’re really inclined to believe this is just a sad way for Soulja Boy to fill up his inbox with soulless emails. “SouljaBoyTellEm@tmail.com — holla atcha boy!”

Tweaked Xbox 360 controller inexplicably deemed an overseas “promotional item”

August 20th, 2008 by

Wait, let’s get this straight. We understood that the newfangled Xbox 360 controller would be limited in nature (though we never understood why), but now you’re telling us that North Americans will have to get lucky on the international second-hand market to obtain one? According to information spilled to Eurogamer, that’s the deal. Microsoft is reportedly loosing the pad in Europe, Asia and Latin America as a “promotional item” that ties in with Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer. Also, it’s very green, and only green. We’re still waiting to hear if Microsoft has plans to bring this stateside or use it to replace the existing controller entirely, but who knows, maybe the US edition will boast four analog sticks and a built-in LCD with real-time LIVE! status checking.

Sony reveals Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune 160GB PlayStation 3, starts shipping new 80GB model

August 20th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Well, color us surprised! Here we have yet another “limited edition” PlayStation 3 bundle, this time with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune packed in alongside a PlayStation Network voucher for PAIN, a DualShock 3 wireless controller and… a 160GB PS3 console? Yep, Sony’s formally introducing us to the new king, which will start shipping to North America this November in the aforementioned kit for $499.99. Curiously, there’s no word as to whether it’ll be released separate from the bundle (we’re guessing yes), and there’s no mention of PS2 backwards compatibility (so don’t count on it). In related news, the “new” $399.99 80GB version is finally shipping to retailers, so you should be able to snap one up in the very, very near future.

Limited Edition Eee PC 901 and 1000H ready to candy-coat Korean hearts

August 12th, 2008 by

Filed under:

After suffering a presumed Jolly Rancher infestation, ASUS is prepped to loose these artificially flavored Eee PCs onto Korea. Available for pre-order now, the limited edition “pink” (hey, that’s what they say) and Jell-O green Eee PC 901 and Eee PC 1000H ship on the 22nd of August for an undetermined price. Hmmm, blood-red snowflakes and glo-stick mistletoe? Feels like Christmas in our very own Eee PC hell.

The Dark Knight Xbox 360 spotted in the wild

August 6th, 2008 by

Filed under:

As you’ve surely heard (and hopefully confirmed for yourself) by now, The Dark Knight is a runaway hit. So much so, in fact, that a number of manufacturers have figured it prudent to crank our hardware with the iconic Batman logo front and center. Next in line for admission on the bandwagon seems to be Microsoft, which apparently showed off a “limited edition” (read: likely one of a kind) Dark Knight Xbox 360 over in Taiwan. We know, you want the details — eventual release dates, a price, the works. Unfortunately for us all, we’re stuck with just that image above and hope for the future. Hey, at least you can let your imagination run wild.

HP Blackbird 002 Exhilaration Edition gets unboxed

July 18th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Apparently some folks have $6,600 to toss on a gaming PC, and thankfully, those folks — we won’t mention names — invested in a camera to let us all live vicariously. HP’s Blackbird 002 Exhilaration Edition, which packs a pair of NVIDIA’s potent GeForce GTX 280 cards, has landed in the home of one lucky gamer, and there’s a good selection of pictures to prove it. You know where to head from here.

Limited edition Metal Gear Solid 4 watch surfaces

June 20th, 2008 by

Need some way to express your adoration for Solid Snake when not inside the house? Then check out this limited edition piece, would you? The Metal Gear Solid 4 watch will reportedly arrive individually numbered from 1 to 500 alongside a “Konami certificate of authenticity approved by Hideo Kojima.” You’ll also get a nifty gift box to hold the water resistant timepiece in when it’s not flanking your wrist, but only if you manage to score one before the legions of other hardcore fans do. Oddly enough, there’s some sort of “pre-order” going on in the read link below, but we wouldn’t count on that being the most reliable method for procuring the £99.99 ($197) device when it’s released in October.

Nokia’s 8800 outdoes itself again with diamond-studded edition

June 6th, 2008 by

Filed under:

We don’t know what it is about Nokia’s 8800, but fashionistas and high-end designers just can’t seem to keep their fingerprints off of it. Enter Thomas Heyerdahl, the same artisan who gussied-up an iPod shuffle earlier this year. This fellow has crafted a version of the handset laced with 112 authentic diamonds, and it’s said that only 100 of the coveted (and individually numbered) mobiles will be made available. All told, you’ll find 0.7 carats of United Nations-approved diamonds per phone, and while the bulk of these things will be sold in select outlets for 30,000 Norwegian kroner ($5,933), numero uno is set to be auctioned for charity to the highest bidder. Pony up, son!

Parrot shows off Andrée Putman-designed digiframe in UK

May 2nd, 2008 by

Indifferent souls may have no qualms just snapping up the first digiframe they see, but that sect isn’t the target market for Parrot’s latest. The Andrée Putman-designed device is being shown around the UK at the moment, and aside from boasting a 7-inch display, a glossy black motif, rear-mounted buttons, auto-rotation, 10MB of built-in storage, an SD expansion slot and integrated Bluetooth (but no WiFi), you also get to hand over £250 to take it home. Right now, the piece is only available in London’s Few and Far store, but the company may try to roll it out nationwide if demand necessitates. Check it out on video in the read link below.

Limited edition Renault Sandero to boast Nokia branding, N95

April 24th, 2008 by

Nothing shows your complete and unwavering devotion to a handset maker like buying an ultra-rare vehicle with its logos on there, wouldn’t you agree? Those vigorously nodding up and down (well, those vigorously nodding up and down in Brazil) can get set to grab a limited edition Renault Sandero, which will come “fully equipped with Nokia’s navigation system and [undisclosed] car add-ons.” The super-special Sandero will come stocked with an N95 and cost around €17,650 ($27,693), but you’d better hurry, as only 1,000 of these niche motorcars are being built. It’s like Nokia heard your cries for letting the chance to nab one of those co-branded Twingos slip through your too-busy-texting thumbs or something.

Limited Edition Joy Division Zune makes us dance, dance, dance to the radio

April 18th, 2008 by

Listen to the silence, let it ring on. Microsoft is said to be releasing a limited edition, Joy Division Zune featuring an adaptation of Peter Saville’s pulsating cover art from the band’s Unknown Pleasures debut. The launch is meant to parallel the June 10th release of the Joy Division DVD and could, in one fell swoop, lift the Zune above its L-7 image. Then we could go on as though nothing was wrong and hide from these days we remained all alone.
