Incrudo 8GB flash drive reeks of expensive

October 8th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Don’t spaz out or anything, but that thing you’re peering at above actually isn’t a small flask of cologne. No, no — it’s an 8GB USB drive, and it’s one of the most expensive you can buy. Reportedly built with titanium, the drive is water-resistant, crush-proof and fancied up further with a single red ruby. Sure, it’s 21,750 rubles ($837), but dollars to donuts they’d trade you one for a sure-to-be-authentic iPhone.

Incrudo Phantom: “Mobile Phone with a Man’s Character”

October 6th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Welcome to Incrudo country, gentlemen. Out here, we grow chest hair as bushy as the tumbleweed, and we like our phones built thick. We’re not talkin’ no ordinary thick, either, no sir — give us 2 to 3mm of solid titanium casing here. We like our phones heavy, too; a half pound sounds about right. We didn’t get these burly muscles wrasslin’ cattle just to tote around a Samsung X820, if you know what we’re saying. Make it look like a brick, because it’s built like a brick. Just like us, because we’re men. Incrudo men.

Sonoro’s saucy Swarovski-covered elements stardust radio demands $2,500

October 1st, 2008 by

Filed under:

“Sonoro” and “absurdly expensive” have always gone hand-in-hand, but even we’re a bit taken aback by the sticker on this one. The company’s latest example of extravagance is the elements stardust, an “exclusive” AM / FM / MP3 clock radio that’s smothered from one end to the other in Swarovski crystals. This thing’s not all looks, though — it’s got a LED-illuminated metal ring for quick-touch control of tuning and volume, a full-range speaker, and an integrated bass reflex tube. Too bad you’ll have to sashay down to Saks Fifth Avenue with $2,500 and an evil grin in order to take one home.

Sagem valiantly returns with Porsche Design P’9522

September 26th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Not even two full months after Sagem fell into the obviously capable hands of Sofinnova, out pops the company’s return to the red carpet. Picking right up (numerically speaking, at least) where the P’9521 left off is the well-endowed P’9522, which was reportedly built with a little help from Porsche Design. The candybar features an aluminum chassis, 2.8-inch display, 5-megapixel camera, GPS, WiFi, fingerprint reader and a microSD card slot. Unfortunately, the fun and games end there, as there’s no 3G radio anywhere to be found; plus, you’ll be asked to lay down about €600 ($875) to acquire one when it ships next month. Loyalty has its price, we guess.

Vertu’s Signature S Design is real, hits FCC

September 12th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Tycoons of the world, get out your pocketbooks. Actually, wait, scratch that — kick back, relax, and let your butler do it for you, because Vertu has a new multi-thousand dollar toy for your enjoyment. The FCC has revealed that Nokia’s ultra-luxe division has finally updated its flagship Signature model to include 3G, and they’ve taken the opportunity to completely redesign it to make it slimmer, hotter, and presumably, pricier than ever before. The all-new Signature features quadband EDGE, HSDPA on the 850 and 2100MHz bands, and WiFi — a Vertu first — which means we should probably expect a fabulous browser to go with that generously-proportioned OLED display. Well, we can’t, since we’ll never get closer than a thick sheet of security glass to this thing — but someone can.

Update: The phone’s officially been unveiled on Vertu’s site as the Signature S Design, hitting a boutique you can’t get into unless you’re dressed to impress near you come next month.

Maria Sharapova and Canon to give away diamond-clad SD1100 ISs

August 21st, 2008 by

Filed under:

Maria Sharapova has already had her greatness spread over a number of Motorola handsets, but now the tennis queen is partnering up with long-time associate Canon in order to make five lucky individuals extraordinarily happy. As part of an elaborate marketing scheme, Canon and Maria (but mostly Canon) are cranking up a contest in which five Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS’s are given away. But these aren’t just any SD1100 ISs — these are diamond-encrusted editions worth around $12,000 apiece. No word on whether Maria will actually touch the cameras before they’re shipped out, but a boy can dream.

Nokia’s 8800 Carbon Arte takes luxury to the moon

August 19th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Besides the RAZR, few handsets have milked longevity like Nokia’s 8800 slider — first introduced in April 2005. Unlike RAZR, however, the 8800 somehow manages not to annoy… too much. The latest Carbon Arte model brings 3G, a 3.2 megapixel camera, 4GB of flash memory, and OLED display with anti-fingerprint coating. Fine, but it’s the rocket-esque carbon fiber, titanium, and stainless steel materials that help push the price tag to €1,100 (that’s about $1,600) before taxes and of course, carrier subsidies. Expected to brazenly appear in the smoking dens of Europe’s finest gentlemens’ clubs sometime in Q3.

TAG Heuer’s ritzy Meridiist handset gets unboxed

August 4th, 2008 by

Filed under:

All but the most affluent among us have likely purged the pricey Meridiist from our memories, but if you’ve ever wondered what exactly a £2,650 ($5,162) cellphone looks like (and really, who hasn’t?), you’ll definitely want to check this out. The fine folks over at Stuff were able to point their camera at TAG Heuer’s exquisite handset ever-so-briefly, and while the images tell half the story, the folks handling it told the other. The chunky phone reportedly reeked of unnecessary luxury and was built solidly, but we didn’t get the impression that they were champing at the bit to call this a bargain. At any rate, there are a few more shots where this one came from (that would be the read link, for the uninitiated).

July 23rd, 2008 by

SIM2’s DOMINO line — okay, SIM2’s entire line — isn’t known for being the cheapest bunch. The new DOMINO D60, however, is actually affordable by said company’s standards, checking in at just 4,995 US dollars. This 1080p beamer is based on Texas Instruments’ DarkChip3 0.95-inch DMD chipset and includes a single-chip DLP projection system, BrilliantColor, three different preset modes (Cinema, Dynamic, and Standard) and three user-customizable memories. It’s shipping now for those with fat wallets.

Ego’s Bentley laptop is gonna make you so cool, we swear

July 21st, 2008 by

Filed under:

You know what’s cool, right? Big, luxurious, fast cars. Those are cool. And then, you know, when you put a car logo on a laptop, and maybe a bit of leather upholstery? You’re bordering on seriously cool levels, people. Take it from us, we know. Ego’s been making luxury laptops of questionable taste and shape for a couple years now, and seems to have finally met the “alright, I guess” mark with its Bentley laptops. Complete with cross-over hand-stitching, a seemingly transplanted car door handle, and a few crappy specs, the laptop is most certainly not worth the £10,000 ($19,943 US) asking price. They go on sale this summer.

Parrot offers up $450 Andrée Putman-designed digiframe

July 16th, 2008 by

Remember that Andrée Putman-designed digital photo frame that was showcased in the UK earlier this year? Even if not, Parrot would like to remind you of this apparently exquisite device, which features commonplace luxuries like a 7-inch 720 x 480 resolution display, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, an SD / MMC card slot, an undisclosed amount of internal memory and USB connectivity. Oh, and did we mention the $449.99 price? Yeah, there’s that, too. Heard enough, haven’t you? (Psst… it ships on July 28th in the US.)

£10,000 diamond-clad Nokia N95 borders on gaudy

July 7th, 2008 by

Filed under:

To be fair, Continental Mobiles’ diamond-encrusted Nokia N95 is a real bargain at £10,000 ($19,813) when compared to Amosu’s £12,000 alternative, but seriously, real richies should be holding off for the evolutionary N96, anyway. For those with enough cash to care, this particular handset / status symbol packs a Sterling silver front-panel stacked with “4.42ct of brilliant-cut, VS1 quality, color G-H, naturally mined diamonds.” If you’re craving one, you’d better get your order in now, as it takes the British craftspeople crazy enough to sell these things three full weeks to whip one up.

Mobiado Professional 105 EM / GCB handsets: too luxurious for our fingers

June 12th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Heads up, affluent sect. The immensely pricey Professional 105 line is expanding, as two new members slip in to tempt your stuffed wallet. Mobiado’s Professional 105 EM is available in Cocobolo and Ebony, and the frame is even constructed from anodized aluminum; you’ll also notice sapphire crystal buttons and a black finish. As for the Professional 105 GCB, it’s layered with a 5-micron thick 24-karat gold plating and jazzed up with a fancy logo ’round back. Both candybars feature quad-band GSM support, a measly 1GB of internal storage space and a ho hum 2-megapixel camera, but fret not, as it’ll (very likely) be the most expensive lackluster cellphone you’ll ever pay for.

Swarovski-studded LG 47LB90FD LCD HDTV makes grand entrance

June 11th, 2008 by

LG’s Xcanvas line of LCD HDTVs look mighty sexy as-is, in our humble opinion, but we’re certain a little extravagance can’t hurt. The 1080p 47LB90FD has a surprisingly sparkly base that’s doused in Swarovski crystals, and as you can likely glean, it’ll only be released in limited quantities. Sadly, the nitty-gritty details on this thing are few and far between, but when you’re talking about a ritzy ₩3.3 million ($3,204) HDTV, who needs a contrast ratio?

Christian Dior / ModeLabs pop out another absurdly overpriced handset

June 7th, 2008 by

Filed under:

If Christian Dior’s $5,000 handset just wasn’t rich enough for your blood, hopefully the crocodile skinned, Swarovski-covered iteration will put a sizable enough hole in your bank account to make you feel sufficiently important. Reportedly dubbed Lady Dior, the ModeLabs-created mobile features a 2.6-inch QVGA display, 2-megapixel camera, 640 Swarovski stones and absolutely nothing really worth the price tag. Speaking of which, said sticker is right around €18,000 ($28,360). Laughable, no?

Nokia’s 8800 outdoes itself again with diamond-studded edition

June 6th, 2008 by

Filed under:

We don’t know what it is about Nokia’s 8800, but fashionistas and high-end designers just can’t seem to keep their fingerprints off of it. Enter Thomas Heyerdahl, the same artisan who gussied-up an iPod shuffle earlier this year. This fellow has crafted a version of the handset laced with 112 authentic diamonds, and it’s said that only 100 of the coveted (and individually numbered) mobiles will be made available. All told, you’ll find 0.7 carats of United Nations-approved diamonds per phone, and while the bulk of these things will be sold in select outlets for 30,000 Norwegian kroner ($5,933), numero uno is set to be auctioned for charity to the highest bidder. Pony up, son!

Suissa carves out Enlighten desktop PC

May 27th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Suissa already has a decent range of custom-made wooden PCs for you to choose from, but if you’ve yet to be satisfied with one of its luxurious offerings, you may want to consider the company’s new Enlighten model, which pushes the company’s unconventional designs to even greater heights. In addition to your choice of materials used for the exterior, this one comes based around a micro ATX motherboard, which accommodates either a quad-core Intel or AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ processor, an NVIDIA 8800GTX or ATI Radeon HD2900XT graphics card, 4GB of RAM, 1TB of hard drive space, a DVD burner and an ample 620W power supply. No word on a price, but each one does need to be commissioned, which is rarely an encouraging sign.

[Thanks, Martynas]

Meridian’s Ferrari-branded F80 home entertainment system priced at $2,995

May 17th, 2008 by

We fully expected that Ferrari logo and lacquered paint job to add a stuff premium to Meridian’s F80, but this is undeniably insane. The “transportable home entertainment system,” which has been hovering about since last March, is at long last ready to be purchased. Finding prospective buyers, however, will likely be challenging. The unit is now available in silver, yellow, white, black and the obligatory red, and each one will set you back a dumbfounding $2,995. We’re thinking the unit itself would go for around three bills sans branding, but apparently Italian ponies aren’t cheap.

Munk Bogballe turns MacBook into luxury “Workstation”

May 14th, 2008 by

Filed under:

It’s far from the first to turn a standard issue Mac laptop into entirely different, but Munk Bogballe has gone a bit further than most with its new Workstation laptop, which turns an otherwise modest MacBook into a full-fledged slab of excess. That includes an anodized aluminum surface, European aniline leather on the underside, and even a specially designed leather bag (which costs a hefty $640 on its own if you want a second one). As for the hardware itself, you get a standard 2.4GHz MacBook under that shiny exterior, right down to the MagSafe adapter, although it is at least topped off with 4GB of RAM and it apparently comes with Windows XP pre-installed for your convenience. If that sounds like the laptop you wish Apple had made, you can get your order in now for £3,500 (or just over $6,700), which also generously includes a donation of one OLPC XO laptop to make you feel a bit better about your ridiculous purchase.

Vita Audio adds a splash of luxury to R4 iPod / DAB radio

May 12th, 2008 by

Nothing says sexy like a sleek wood trim, wouldn’t you wholeheartedly agree? Vita Audio obviously does, as it’s £499.99 ($980) R4 integrated music system just screams lavish. The all-in-one unit packs an iPod dock, slot-loading CD / MP3 / WMA-music disc player, USB port, DAB and FM tuner with RDS, front and rear auxiliary ports, built-in display, alarm clock function and the firm’s detachable RotoDial remote. For those not feeling the rich walnut veneer, there’s also a high-gloss white (surprised?) version available for £50 ($97) more. Sadly, the “coming soon” tidbit leaves us clueless as to how long you actually have left to save up for either of the pricey systems.
