Yup, it’s true, the dual-mode CDMA / WiMAX modem is real and will be sold by Clearwire Sprint starting December 21st. The $150 device (after $50 rebate and two-year Sprint contract) is a first to function on both Sprint’s EV-DO network and Clearwire’s nascent mobile WiMAX service currently supporting Baltimore’s collection of kitschy beauty salons. So yeah, the modem is of limited interest until Clearwire can build-out its network in 2009, starting with Portland in early January.

Netgear, we’re here to tell you it’s been far, far too long since you threw any new 802.11n gear our way, so we’re pretty stoked to see a few new pieces roll out today. The outfit is formally introducing the WNR2000 Wireless-N router and DGN2000 Wireless-N router with built-in DSL modem this morning, both of which boast the company’s own Push ‘N’ Connect with Wi-Fi Protected Setup to eliminate the need to remember those pesky network security passwords. Both units are available in kit form as well, which sees a USB wireless adapter bundled in just in case your rig is operating sans an 802.11n WiFi module. Everything is available now for anywhere between $89 and $129.

Okay, so the totally nifty Pocket IR Modem actually works with a few devices other than the antiquated Palm III, but it’s clear these two were made for each other. Put simply, this device connects with any Pocket PC / Palm OS unit via IrDA and enables it to hop on the intarwebs in blazing fashion, but truthfully, it was designed to allow folks in the field to upload data more so than check your favorite gadget blog. Reportedly, ENR Technologies is hoping to loose these for $80 apiece if purchased in bulk, but it’ll take $149 to snag one for personal use. All of a sudden, EDGE doesn’t seem so bad, now does it?

The WiMAX train is starting to pick up steam — and with services like Sprint’s XOHM scheduled to launch in the next year, we’re expecting to see a lot more devices like Motorola’s CPEi 300 WiMAX modem hit shelves. The company is showing off the wireless broadband modem at the WiMAX World conference in Chicago this week, and seems bullish about targeting the “unserved or underserved” with the device. The unit features one “data port” (we’re guessing Ethernet) and two RJ-11 ports for VoIP access, and runs on the 802.16e “Mobile WiMAX” standard. We’d love to know when we’ll be able to buy this thing and how much it’s going to cost — or even just what it looks like — but it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit to find out more.
