Aside from completely melting our brains with 14 new HDTVs, Westinghouse is contributing an entirely more manageable number of LCD monitors to the scene here in Vegas. On the small end we’ve got the 20-inch L2031NW, which offers a 1,600 x 900 resolution, 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 250 nits of brightness, inbuilt stereo speakers and HDMI / VGA / stereo audio inputs. The 22-inch L2220HW steps it up with a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, while the 24-inch L2427HW adds in twin HDMI inputs. The 26-inch L2635HW closes out the group with a 1,920 x 1,200 resolution, 1,000:1 contrast ratio and 300 nits of brightness, though prices for the lot aren’t yet available. Full specs are just after the break.

Samsung’s been shipping DisplayLink-equipped displays in its UbiSync line for months now, and now it’s got one more headed to consumers. The 22-inch 2243QW comes with a 1,680 x 1,050 native resolution, 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 5-millisecond response time, a built-in USB hub and VGA / DVI inputs. ‘Course, the signal gets sent over USB, but it’s your best guess as to what it’ll run. Er, is running, considering that it’s shipping now to the US and Europe.

In case you haven’t noticed, iZ3D is riding the suddenly swelled wave of 3D enthusiasm all the way to the bank (and Vegas). Even though its existing 22-inch 3D LCD has been around since mid-2007, the firm has recently hacked down the price and pushed it into retail outlets in order to drum up interest. At CES, it’s bringing even more firepower in the form of a 26-inch prototype (pictured) that should do everything the current 22-incher does, just 4-inches better. Additionally, it’ll have on display the Immersion Series, which places a trio of the iZ3D monitors together in order to better simulate flights and races. In case that’s not enough, we’re also told to expect a 22-inch widescreen 3D LCD that’s console-friendly, meaning that the only thing standing between you and 3D Xbox 360 enjoyment is a wonky set of glasses and compatible software. We’ll see how it all looks in around a fortnight.

The modding world is severely overran with me-too steampunk hack jobs, a fact that we find particularly disheartening. But every so often, we stumble upon a diamond in the rough such as this: a masterpiece of steampunk theater that truly exhibits dedication to the craft. Australia’s own Mad Uncle Cliff set aside a copious amount of time over a number of weeks in order to construct this beauty, which includes a full-fledged PC, speakers and LCD (obviously). Check the read link for the build saga, and don’t forget to pay your respects before leaving.

AOC has been slowly but surely delivering solid, cost-efficient HDTVs / displays in the run-up to CES 2009, and while the 2230Fm HD3 and 2230Fh that it’ll be showcasing aren’t entirely new, the V22 Verfino (pictured) definitely is. All three of the aforementioned units are part of the outfit’s new Gamer Certified displays series, with the newest of the bunch packing a LED-backlit 22-inch panel (1,680 x 1,050), 100,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, a 2-millisecond response time and an HDMI input to boot. There’s no price set just yet on the early 2009-bound screen, but judging by AOC’s history, we’d wager that it’ll be priced attractively. Full release and specifications are after the break.

It’s mildly amusing that up until now, your only option when buying IZ3D’s 22-inch 3D LCD monitor was to buy it on a decidedly 2D website. At long last, the recently cheapened (now $399) display has hit the brick and mortar realm, with both Fry’s Electronics and Micro Center agreeing to carry it. The move is just one more in the inevitable push to get 3D in the home, and we have all ideas that it’ll be joined by a number of others after CES ‘09 is all wrapped up. Feel free to drop by one of the aforesaid retailers to check this thing out in person, but we’ll warn you, those frightened by 3D glasses need not apply. Full release (including specs) is after the break.

NEC popped out a new 19- and 24-incher earlier this month, but evidently those two just weren’t enough. Today, we’re being formally introduced to the very first member of the all new MultiSync P Series, the 22-inch P221W. The monitor caters to professionals working in “color-critical environments” and includes a 1,680 x 1,050 native resolution, wide color gamut that achieves 96% coverage of AdobeRGB, internal 10-bit programmable lookup tables, S-PVA LCD technology, AmbiBright automatic brightness adjustment, a 16-millisecond response time, 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2 brightness and a four-way ergonomic stand to boot. As with anything with “pro” attached to it, this here display won’t run you cheap, but $636.90 isn’t too bad for a color-savvy monitor and a 3-year warranty.

Funny story — just under three years ago, we all thought six 24-inchers latched together in a swanky multi-monitor setup was the real heat. Nowadays, it takes a real beast to even catch the ever-wandering eye of we geeks, and while the CineMassive OmegaPlex isn’t a HIPerSpace, you won’t need a government loan and a damn good research proposal to claim one as your own. Boasting 27.6 million pixels and a total screen resolution of 7,860 x 3,600, this ridiculous rig also comes with a 3-year warranty and a practically unheard of “zero dead pixel” policy. Feel free to infinitely boost your 1337-ness by handing over $12,995 and patiently awaiting delivery via the largest ground vehicle UPS owns. Check the vid after the break for a little more encouragement. [Warning: PDF read link]

Asus is ritzing up its LCD inventory with four new high-end displays this month — the VK266H and VW266H at 25.5 inches (beating out the manufacturer’s current top end) and the VK246H and VW246H at good ol’ 24 inches. They all feature the company’s new Splendid Video Intelligence Technology, run at at 1,920 x 1,200, and have a 20,000:1 contrast ratio, which is a significant improvement over the current Asus flagship’s 3,000:1, but the max brightness is a bit lower. Why two at each size, you ask? Actual specs are identical across the board, but the VK266H and the VK246H have built-in webcams, while the VW266H and VW246H don’t — unfortunately, pricing info is not yet available, so there’s no telling how much extra you’ll be paying to record cringe-worthy YouTube diaries.

digg_url = ‘http://digg.com/apple/Apple_finally_refreshes_Cinema_Displays’; Another rumor to tick off the list, Apple just announced the 24-inch Cinema Display. LED-backlit, check; Mini DisplayPort, check; $899 list price, check; MagSafe adapter, check. In fact, it has a tri-pronged cable that also includes USB . Other specs include a native 1,920 x 1,200 resolution, built-in iSight camera / microphone, integrated stereo speakers and a 3-port USB hub. Can you wait ’til November?

So you’ve just purchased a new desktop that checks in at 1.6- x 2.4 - x 2.1-inches (actual size may vary), and you’re looking for the perfect LCD to accompany it. At long last, we finally have a solution for the aforementioned quandary. The Century LCD-4300U is a 4.3-inch LCD monitor that not only provides the convenience of a USB connection, but it also gets every ounce of energy it needs via that same USB cable. The mini monitor touts an 800 x 480 resolution, LED-backlighting and compatibility with Windows XP / Vista and OS X. Now, if only the darn thing didn’t cost ¥19,800 ($197), we might have ourselves a runaway winner.

We’re not sure what’s up with Dell and its displays, but for whatever reason, it actually prefers to sneak new stuff out and just let you try to find it. After pushing out a swank new WUXGA projector with nary a peep, the Round Rock powerhouse has now hosted up a new 1080p LCD monitor dubbed the S2309W. Granted, the display is currently only on the firm’s Canadian site, but we reckon it’s only a matter of time before it makes it to other markets. As for specs, we’ve got a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, 5-millisecond response time, 300 cd/m2 brightness, 1,000:1 contrast ratio and DVI / VGA inputs. No price is mentioned, but it should be shipping in under a fortnight to those who figure out a way to buy it.
[Thanks, Alex]

LG isn’t making any promises about saving the planet with this one, but those looking for a no-frills LCD monitor could certainly do a lot worse than its new 22-inch W2271TC model, which boasts some decent enough specs and an “affordable” but as yet unspecified price tag. Headlining that spec list is a promised 20,000:1 “Digital Fine” contrast ratio, which certainly stands out from the otherwise ordinary 1680 x 1050 resolution, 5ms response time, and 300 nits brightness, even it may not actually be all that noticeably different from a monitor with a less attention-grabbing number. You’ll also get some built-in speakers and an integrated webcam, which apparently even boasts some of that nifty face-tracking technology, though we’re going to go out an a limb and guess that the entire monitor doesn’t keep moving to face you.

AOC already dished out a number of HD LCD monitors for those with a few extra bucks to spare, but the 17-inch V17 keeps things relatively cheap ($199.99) and exceptionally thin. More specifically, the monitor checks in at just 12-millimeters deep — it’s no XEL-1, sure, but that’s pretty frickin’ slim. Furthermore, it includes a built-in VGA webcam, glass base and integrated speakers to boot. We’re still waiting to hear back on the screen resolution, but considering that this won’t ship until late 2008 at the earliest, you’ve still got time to think on it. Full release after the break.

Nothing much to phone home over here, just a run-of-the-mill 22-incher with a mighty respectable WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) resolution. The Buffalo FTD-HD2232HSR/BK also boasts a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 300cd/m2 brightness, HDCP-compatible DVI port, 170-degree viewing angles and an “ECO” mode that’ll save energy… somehow. Word on the street has it landing here shortly for around €280 ($390).

It’s been a solid tick since we’ve seen a new monitor from Fujitsu Siemens, but apparently it’s been spending a lot of time on its SCENICVIEW Premium Line ECO range. Announced today, the 20-inch P20W-5 ECO and the 22-inch P22W-5 ECO are being hailed as the planet’s first to feature power supplies that “automatically switch off completely in power-save mode.” The whole zero-watt bit comes from their ability to suck down precisely no power when not in use, while the majority of LCDs continue to draw slivers of energy even in standby. Furthermore, the new devices include the DisplayView AutoBright functionality, which automatically adjusts brightness “in harmony with ambient light” in order to net even greater power savings. Both screens are available now in Europe starting at €419 ($625), though 24- and 26-inch models are arriving next month.

Vizio made some waves recently with the introduction of two bargain-priced plasmas, but it could garner attention from a whole new sect of individuals next month. Reportedly, the outfit is gearing up to launch “its first monitor tailored for dedicated PC users” in late August, the 26-inch widescreen VMM monitor. We are told that it’ll boast HDMI inputs, reduced brightness and higher resolution “than typical IT displays,” but aside from that (and the $449 price tag), the rest remains a mystery. Also of note, the company is expected to debut an “eco-friendly” line of TVs this October, which are said to “operate with 35- to 45-percent less power than traditional LCD TVs of comparable size.” Way to keep us on the edge of our seats, Vizio.

Even if you’re not exactly in the market for a new flat-panel, Samsung’s still hoping to snag a bit (or all) of your latest paycheck with its Touch of Color LCD monitors. Hinted at during CES and officially unveiled back in April, these displays boast a 5-millisecond response time, transparent plastic bezel, 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, twin 3-watt speakers, a built-in ATSC / ClearQAM TV tuner (!) and an optical digital audio port for channeling 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound. As for resolutions, the 24-inch T240HD and 26-inch T260HD both offer full 1080p, while the 22-inch T220HD gets a 1,680 x 1,050 panel. Snag whichever one suits your fancy right now for $429, $549 or $599 from smallest to largest.

The boys and girls at Microsoft Research are getting set to publish a report detailing a competing (and in their perspective, superior) technology to replace the LCD monitors we’ve grown to know and love heart with reservations. By using pixels that boast “a pair of mirrors to block or transmit light,” displays could theoretically be created which are “faster, brighter, and more power efficient than liquid crystal displays.” Dubbed telescopic pixels, the devices would be able to turn off and on in under 1.5-milliseconds, which is quick enough to put “red, green, and blue light-emitting diodes behind each pixel.” Furthermore, these pixels are way brighter than those used in LCDs, which means users would see less power draw and be able to view the screen more easily in direct sunlight. Sounds solid from here, but could you not humor us with a release time frame or something?

Tired of looking at that tired old CRT monitor? Anxious to get a screen with a bit more screen real estate? So is Paul — have a look:
“I was wondering if you all could help me out in deciding on a monitor. I’d like it to be at least 19-inches, bigger is better, but the main thing is to have a nice resolution. I currently have a 1,280 x 1,080 17-inch LCD monitor, and really like it, but would like to go past the 1,080 to possibly 1,200. Thing is I’d like to spend around $300, going up to maybe $400. What’s the best choice out in this price range?”
We’d wager Paul’s quandary is one shared by many, and if you just recently solved this yourself, be sure to toss in your recommendation below. Once you’ve completed said task, feel free to shoot us a question you’d like help with at ask at engadget dawt com.
