MST3K crew appears during the Summer Olympics broadcast?

August 17th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Now look, we’re not sure if this was someone’s drug-induced fever dream or not, but if it did really go down, it might be the best thing that’s happened at the entire 2008 Summer Olympics. According to the Dirty Red Commie, sometime on August 17th between 2:00 PM and 3:13 PM Mountain Time, Joel, Tom Servo, and Crow T. Robot from Mystery Science Theater 3000 appeared on NBC’s broadcast of the summer games. The DRC says they were simply static — no hilarious jokes or animated banter — but cut out during local commercials, giving him the impression that this was coming from the NBC mothership rather than his local station. Apparently a video of the action was set to go up on YouTube, but was “copyright-killed before it was even done processing.” If anyone out there on the interblogs is able to confirm this, we’d love to hear from you.

NBC’s Fear Itself is only Skin and Bones tonight

July 31st, 2008 by

“Skin and Bones” is directed by Larry Fessenden (“The Last Winter,” “Wendigo”), and is written by Drew McWeeny & Scott Swan (”Masters of Horror”). When a cattle herder (Doug Jones, “Hellboy II: The Golden Army”) returns home to his family after being lost in the woods for days, he just doesn’t seem the same. Soon, a terrible mortal struggle ensues against the terrifying monster possessing him. Gordon Tootoosis (“Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee”) also stars.

Fear Itself gets scarier and scarier every week and tonight’s mini-movie Skin and Bones on NBC at 10p looks to be the scariest of them all. Just looking at Doug Jones in that clip is already giving me nightmares.
So get scared tonight on NBC at 10p with the last Fear Itself before the Olympics.

Brandon Routh finds a Community on tonight’s Fear Itself at 10p

July 24th, 2008 by

“Community” is directed by Mary Harron (”American Psycho,” “The Notorious Betty Page,” “Big Love”) and written by Kelly Kennemer (”The Music Within”). When a young married couple, played by Brandon Routh (“Superman”) and Shiri Appleby (“Charlie Wilson’s War”), find the perfect house in the perfect neighborhood, their lives seem…well…perfect. But as the dark underbelly of their neighborhood creeps to the surface, they soon realize that their neighbors will go to any extreme — even murder — to make sure that they comply with their twisted sense of conformity. John Billingsley (”Star Trek: Enterprise”) and wife Bonita Friedericy (NBC’s “Chuck”) also star.

I am so loving Fear Itself on NBC Thursdays at 10p. Last week’s short horror movie New Year’s Day was the best one yet, but tonight’s short movie with Brandon Routh looks like it might be even better.
So tune in to Fear Itself on NBC tonight at 10p for a nightmare inducing show, but also one you can enjoy!
Get your Fear on!!!

What if Swingtown were Fear Itself?

July 17th, 2008 by

Both NBC’s Fear Itself and CBS’s Swingtown are all new tonight at 10p and it is nice to see what if the two were combined. Kind of like the last Fear Itself had two of the leads from Psych who have sexual tension on the show get married on the other one.
So tune in to NBC’s Fear Factor and CBS’ Swingtown at 10p for some horror and loving!

Friday Night Lights cuts two

July 8th, 2008 by

Michael Ausiello is reporting that Friday Night Lights will be coming back without two of their guys full-time. Smash and Scott Porter will be recurring characters next season and not series regulars. I find it funny that the show was built on Scott Porter's paralysis and they are cutting him. I could live without Smash because I think they have done as much as they can with his character, but I will miss Scott Porter.

Flip for Celebrity Circus!

July 2nd, 2008 by

While I love watching all the celebs do their circus acts on Celebrity Circus. What I love more is Louie Spence’s over-the-big top reaction to Stacey Dash. Hello the back flip, is he Clueless to the fact that she is a girl?
So tune into Celebrity Circus on NBC at 10p tonight to see what death-defying acts the celebs do and what more of a schmuck Louie makes of himself over Stacey Dash.

Mary Tyler Moore joins Lipstick Jungle

June 19th, 2008 by

(photo from WireImage)

Mary Tyler Moore is coming back to TV to play Brooke Shields' mom on Lipstick Jungle according to Zap2it!

She'll be playing Joyce, the mother of movie executive Wendy (Brooke Shields) and a former high-powered executive in her own right.

Having been a workplace pioneer during her career, Joyce will challenge her daughter's ideas about the ability to have both a demanding career and a rich home life.

It is going to be so nice to have her back on her TV and you know she is going to be great on the show. Hopefully she can give this show a reason to watch it so desperately needs!

Get scares by Fear Itself on NBC tonight!

June 5th, 2008 by

Fear Itself” is a provocative, new 13-episode suspense and horror anthology series set to push the boundaries of this classic genre through a host of provocative talent, both in front of and behind the camera, including award-winning, sought-after directors John Landis (”An American Werewolf in London”), Darren Bousman (”Saw II, III and IV”) and Ronny Yu (”Bride of Chucky”); actors Brandon Routh (”Superman Returns”), Shiri Appleby (”Charlie Wilson’s War”), Elisabeth Moss (”Mad Men”), Cynthia Watros (”Lost”), Eric Roberts (NBC’s “Heroes”) and John Billingsley (”Star Trek: Enterprise”); and writers, including Joe Gangemi (”Wind Chill,” the novel “Inamorata”), Steve Niles (”30 Days of Night”) and Dan Knauf (”Carnivàle,” “Supernatural”).

When I first read about NBC’s Fear Itself, I couldn’t wait to see the show because I am such a horror lover and all. But I have to admit I was kind scared that it might be as horrible as Showtime’s Masters of Horror. Unlike MoH, this show is scary, suspenseful and I was able to get through every episode without wishing I was one of the victims being killed off in the episode. In fact not only is Fear Itself better than MoH it is better than most of the horror movies I have seen recently.
Tonight’s episode is Sacrifice and I could not believe how good it was and the fact that they got all that into a one hour show! Seriously maybe movies should only be an hour if that is what will make them good again. I mean Sacrifice had everything and unlike most horror movies these it wasn’t predictable. In fact none of the Fear Itself’s are. My favorite episode thus far is Family Man because at first you think you know exactly how it is going to end, but the ending has a twist you never see coming and have never seen before.
With Supernatural on a summer break and evil CBS canceling Moonlight, Fear Itself fills a void that we all need! So make sure to experience Fear Itself Thursdays at 10p on NBC, it is frightening how good this show is!
BTW doesn’t the theme song remind you of a song you would hear at an orthodox Jewish affair!

Broadcast Flag rides again, courtesy of NBC & Microsoft?

May 18th, 2008 by

Just like efforts to close the analog hole, our old friend the broadcast flag (don’t remember what that is and how it was defeated? Take a quick trip back to 2005 with us) has reared it’s ugly head again. Displaying the kind of tenacity rarely seen outside of horror movie villains and potential presidential candidates, some Vista Media Center users have apparently gotten the above popup while trying to record broadcast TV from NBC. Since the FCC regulation giving the broadcast flag it’s power to remotely disable your recording ability was overturned, not only should it not be enabled, there’s no reason the system should respond if it were. The EFF’s working with the makers of the HDHomeRun to find out why this happened at all (although it’s not the first time); whether it’s an honest mistake somewhere or if Microsoft slipped a bit of extra DRM into its latest OS.

Apple flexes on flexible pricing? HBO iTunes deal rumored, NBC hits the UK

May 12th, 2008 by

Filed under:

It looks like Apple might finally ready to give up its demands for straight up and down $1.99 TV show pricing on iTunes. If you’ll remember, Apple and NBC had quite the squabble over price flexibility and margins last year, and some other show providers have held off providing content until they can get a more favorable deal from Apple. It seems one of those content holders was HBO, with word on the street that Apple is finally going to bow to desires for flexible pricing, and has signed up HBO to kick things off. Apple has also in recent months added NBC Universal shows to its UK store with variable pricing, which might be a sign that a return to the US store isn’t far off.

Microsoft and NBC working on copyright filters for Zune?

May 7th, 2008 by

Microsoft’s recently refurbished Zune store features a lot of NBC content like Heroes and The Office, but it looks like it may have come at what could be a steep price: NBC recently told the New York Times that it’s working with Microsoft to develop “copyright filters” for the Zune that would “remove pirated movies and videos.” (We’ll pause for a moment so you can gape appropriately.) Granted, it’s not clear whether NBC wants to actually delete non-DRM’d media or simply block playback, but apparently the network thinks it’s an issue on par with variable pricing, and it’s not in the iTunes Store because Apple refuses to cooperate. Microsoft, on the other hand, is apparently cheerfully working on such a solution, dubbed the “copyright cop,” and says that it’s sympathetic to NBC’s concerns because it also suffers from piracy issues. Sigh. Of course, none of this is new territory for NBC or Microsoft: the two companies are working in similar content filtering systems to be implemented at the ISP level with AT&T, and NBC and SanDisk are working on a filter for Sansa players as well. Still, if Microsoft is serious about competing with the iPod, signing up for consumer-hostile DRM systems that actually block playback and potentially delete files just isn’t the way to do it — let’s hope this one dies on the vine.

Update:
Although a spokesperson told the NYT that Microsoft was working with NBC on anti-piracy efforts, the company is now saying that it has no plans to implement a “copyright cop” in the Zune, and the Zune Insider blog confirms. Great, now just cancel the ISP-level filtering system and we’ll be all set.

Zune TV lineup gets some NBC love

May 6th, 2008 by

Filed under:

While we’re still waiting for the early year flirtations of NBC and Apple to sprout into a renewed relationship, it looks like Microsoft is picking up the ball and running with it. The new Zune Marketplace TV lineup includes NBC favorites “The Office, “Heroes” and “30 Rock,” in addition to popular shows from Comedy Central, MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, and Sci Fi Channel. Over 800 episodes in total are available at the moment, and all of them are going for 160 Microsoft Points — about $2.00. A more complete list is after the break.

What happened to Jonathan Schaech?

Jonathan Schaech needs to shave ASAP because that look does not work for him.

Here is something you might not know about Jonathan Schaech he has written for Heroes, Masters of Horror and the upcoming NBC show Fear Itself. Maybe he doesn't have to shave if he is behind the camera, but personally I like him in front of the camera!
