HP announces Pavilion Verde and Pavilion Phoenix eco-PCs, 25-inch display

October 20th, 2008 by

Filed under:

HP’s bringing a little fiesta to the green game this morning, announcing the new Energy Star-qualified Pavilion Verde a6645f (pictured) and the Pavilion Phoenix Special Edition a6655f desktops along with the new w2558c 25.5-inch display. Both the $579 Circuit City-exclusive Verde and $659 Best Buy-exclusive Phoenix claim a 45-percent energy savings over traditional PCs and sport 5GB of RAM, a LightScribe dual-layer burner, and Vista Home Premium, but the Phoenix is the hotrod of the pair, packing an AMD Phenom X4 9150e quad-core processor over the Verdes’ Athlon X2 4850e dual-core unit. The w2558 display seems nice and flexible, with HDMI inputs, a 15-in-1 card reader, 2.0 megapixel webcam and multiple USB ports, but we’ll wait for specs a little more detailed than “fast” response time and “high” brightness before we plunk down our $599. Both machines should hit their respective big-box stores on November 9th, and the display should be out now — check it out after the break.

HP offers up Special Edition Pavilion dv4t and dv5t

October 4th, 2008 by

Filed under:

HP’s got the Special Edition itch again, and it’s scratching it with both hands as evidenced by the newest dv4t and dv5t SE notebooks. Starting with the former, we’ve got a flashily designed 14.1-incher with a WXGA panel, 4GB of DDR2 RAM, a handful of Core 2 Duo CPU choices, NVIDIA’s 512MB GeForce 9200M GS, up to 400GB of hard drive space, WiFi, optional WWAN and an integrated HDTV hybrid tuner. The equally fashionable Pavilion dv5t SE sports a 15.4-inch LCD, a GMA4500MHD integrated graphics set, optional Blu-ray writer and most everything already mentioned on its smaller sibling. You can snatch either of these up for $1,099.99 / $949 (or higher) right now, but we’d make sure you really dig the tattoos before making a decision you’ll regret forever.

HP’s gargantuan 18-inch HDX 18t laptop now available

October 2nd, 2008 by

Filed under:

Don’t hold out on us — we know good and well you’ve been eying HP’s bigger than big HDX 18 ever since it got real last month. For those unable to resist the urge to find out what life’s like with an 18-inch entertainment notebook gracing their lap (and likely the lap of the guy one cube over), you can order this sucker up right now. Yep, the HDX 18t Premium series gets going at $1,549.99, but it won’t take too many configuration tweaks to push that figure well over the $2k mark. Have fun!

HP releases Pavilion dv3500t, its first 13.3-inch laptop

October 1st, 2008 by

Filed under:

HP releases

We’re all about milestones here at Engadget, so today we’d like to congratulate HP on releasing its first 13.3-inch laptop, the Pavilion dv3500t. Yes, it’s been a struggle for the company, missing just high and low of this (apparent?) sweet-spot, which strikes a good blend between power and portability with Core 2 Duo processors ranging from 2.0 to 2.53 GHz, RAM up to 8GB, and up to 400GB worth of disk space if you want it, backed up by an 8X, dual-layer, Super Multi DVD writer. Gigabit Ethernet is on the back, while ports for USB (3), HDMI, and a 5-in-1 card reader occupy the sides, all in a package that weighs in at just over 4 pounds. That new screen delivers a respectable 1280 x 800 resolution and, if you’re willing to cough up $100 extra over the $999.99 starting price, you can opt for an LED backlight. If only you could opt out of that garish “Intersect Imprint” exterior.

HP’s Pavilion G60-120US laptop tries on a 15.6-inch LCD

September 22nd, 2008 by

Filed under:

If HP’s latest 16-inch notebook didn’t grab you for reasons like: “That’s a whole 0.4-inches bigger than my desk,” then you’re in luck, because for about half the price you can now pick up a Pavilion G60-120US Notebook PC — HP’s first 15.6-inch model. The G60, with 1,366 x 768 resolution display, comes caked with all the ho-hum features you might expect from a $629.99 price tag: 2GHz AMD Turion X2 dual-core processor, GeForce 8200M graphics card, webcam, DVD burner, WiFi, Bluetooth, ExpressCard slot and 250GB hard drive. On the other hand, it’s got 3GB RAM, Altec Lansing speakers and HDMI output, weighing in at a palatable 6.06 pounds. Not a bad deal, who needs a lousy HDX anyway, right?

HP’s Pavilion HDX 16 entertainment laptop gets reviewed

September 16th, 2008 by

Filed under:

First things first: LaptopMag’s Pavilion HDX 16 was entirely more equipped than the basic $1,249 unit that was uncovered last night, so it makes sense that they were swooning over the (optional) 1080p display and the (optional) Blu-ray drive. Granted, those extras will cost you, but it’s items such as those that made this notebook so appealing to critics. Overall, the unit performed well in all of the areas that mattered, with strong WiFi scores, decent battery life and excellent processing power. Of note, reviewers did wish for a smoother touchpad and more responsive touch-sensitive buttons, but outside of that, we didn’t hear too many complaints. Looking for the 30 second version? “Overall, the HDX 16 is a desktop replacement in a mainstream notebook’s body that delivers great value for the price.” Got it?

HP Pavilion tx2500z Puma-based tablet PC available now

June 11th, 2008 by

Filed under:

HP Pavilion tx2500zFor those of you looking to get into HP’s Pavilion tx2500z Puma-based tablet PC, the time has come. This “echo” inlaid-design ultraportable sports a 12.1-inch 1280 x 800 swivel touch screen with handwriting capture, AMD Turion Dual-Core processor, ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics chipset, and WiFi. Other features of note include a fingerprint reader, webcam, 5-in-1 media card reader, and 3 USB ports. Unfortunately — and we think this should be a standard on subnotebooks starting yesterday — no built-in broadband wireless. That said, you can add a Verizon Wireless V740 ExpressCard during customization checkout. The base configuration will run you a somewhat reasonable $1,049. Go to it, tablet scribblers!

HP goes all out with Blu-ray-packin’ Pavilion laptops for Europe

March 31st, 2008 by

Filed under:

HP’s not one to let its laptops sit on the shelf too long without a revamp, and it’s now let loose yet another raft of updates for its Pavilion line, albeit only in Europe for now. The big news here is the addition of Blu-ray drives across the board, which obviously replaces the HD DVD option previously found on the models they’re replacing. That desirable feature finds its way onto the new Pavilion dv2800, dv6800 and dv9800 series models, which boast 14.1, 15.4, and 17-inch displays, respectively, along with your choice of Core 2 Duo or Turion 64 X2 processors, integrated graphics or NVIDIA GeForce 8400M or 8600M (depending on the model) and even a Blu-ray burner on the 17-inch model. If you’re looking for something other than a traditional laptop, HP’s also busted out an update to its monster HDX-9000 desktop replacement series in the form of the HDX-9300, and a new Pavilion tx2300 tablet PC (only the former boasts a Blu-ray drive). Otherwise, you can expect the HDX-9300 to pack Penryn T8100 or T9300 processors, 3GB of RAM standard, and a beefy NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTS graphics card, while the tx2300 rolls in with a Turion 64 X2 TL-60 processor, 2GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 graphics, and a DVD burner standard. No word on pricing or availability for any of ‘em just yet, unfortunately, nor is there any word of a release ’round these parts.

HP tossing Penryn into latest Pavilions

January 27th, 2008 by

Filed under:

You’d think there’d be a bit more excitement associated with the inclusion of Intel’s latest and greatest, but HP decided to take the quiet route with integrating Penryn into its Pavilion laptop lineup. The Pavilion dv2700t, dv6700t and dv9700t are all getting an Intel T9300 2.5GHz Core 2 Duo option, with a 6MB l2 cache and a purported 10% speed boost over last-gen Intel processors. Unfortunately, that mild speed boost comes at a $100 premium over the T7500, so you money might be better spent on RAM or a better graphics card — or you could just choose it all, the Engadget-approved method of speccing a laptop.

HP intros Pavilion tx2000 tablet, revamps monolithic HDX

January 3rd, 2008 by

Survived the barrage of new HP desktops? We certainly hope so, as now the firm is hitting us up with a bit of news on the laptop front. Up to bat first is the 12.1-inch tx2000 convertible tablet (pictured), which presumably takes over for the tx1000 and comes bundled with the outfit’s QuickPlay software, a webcam and an integrated microphone (beyond that, it’s wait-and-see). As for the oh-so-intimidating Pavilion HDX, it will soon be available with a 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTS graphics set, an optional Core 2 Extreme processor, Blu-ray / HD DVD support and a 20.1-inch WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) XHD Ultra Brightview display. Additionally, the workhorse will boast four Altec Lansing speakers and a built-in “subwoofer,” an eSATA port, hybrid analog / digital TV tuner, room for two HDDs and a media remote to boot. As for pricing and availability, expect the tx2000 to start shipping as CES commences for $1,299 and up, while the newly pimped HDX will ship later this month and start at $1,999.

HP readying new Pavilion tx1400 series convertible tablets

December 20th, 2007 by

It looks like that batch of laptops HP trotted out yesterday wasn’t all it had in store, as the folks at Notebook Italia are now reporting that the company is set to update its Pavilion tx1300 line of convertible tablet PCs with all new tx1400 series models. What’s more, it seems that at least one retailer (linked below) already has one of those tablets (the tx1410us) up for pre-order, with it setting you back $1,200. For that, you’ll get the same 12.1-inch touch screen as before, along with a 2.2GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-64 processor, Geforce Go 6150 graphics, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, a DVD burner, and built-in 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth, all in a 4.5 pound package. No word on any of the other models in the line just yet, but according to Notebook Italia, this one is apparently only the first of more to come.

HP’s Pavilion Elite m9000t desktop gets reviewed

October 18th, 2007 by

Filed under:

Earlier this month, we noticed that fence-sitters in the drawn out format war could play both sides by picking up the towering m9000t with an HD DVD / Blu-ray combo drive built right in. For those still wondering if it’s worth the coin, ComputerShopper managed to sit it down and answer that very inquiry. For starters, the hardware in this “entertainment PC” was said to be mighty robust, and all around performance seemed to exceed expectations. There were no complaints when watching high-definition films, and while this thing wasn’t exactly built for gamers, it managed to pass a Company of Heroes test with flying colors. The only notable dig on this otherwise solid machine was the unfortunate lack of “couch-friendly peripherals,” but for under $1,500, the Pavilion Elite m9000t was still deemed “an excellent choice.”

HP launches new low-power PCs, recycling program

October 15th, 2007 by

HP unveiled a couple new desktops, a new monitor and a slick recycling program in China today, and our boys from Engadget Chinese were on the spot just as you’d expect. The HP Pavilion S3260 low-power desktop has a peak power consumption of just 45W but still rocks an Athlon X2 BE-2350 dual-core processor, 256MB NVIDIA 8400GS graphics, 1GB of RAM, a 320GB disk, a multi-format memory card reader, a dual-layer burner and three years of on-site support for an estimated price of 29,900 yuan ($3,982). HP was also showing off the 24-inch 2308 LCD, which pivots from portrait to landscape, and the Pavilion m9090 multimedia computer, which sports an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2GB of RAM, a 500GB disk, and 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT graphics, for the insane price of 49,900 yuan ($6,646). Topping it all off is the recycling program, in which HP will take in five old PCs and “re-assemble” them into a new PC to be donated to disadvantaged families. Considering the prices of HP’s new PCs, we’re assuming everyone in China qualifies as “disadvantaged,” so here’s hoping that program gets up to speed soon. No word on when we’ll see these hit the States, but we’ll pretty certain those of you looking to drop six grand on a machine can find other options.

HP offers up HD DVD / Blu-ray drives on select Pavilion desktops

October 5th, 2007 by

Just last month, we heard rumblings that HP may begin offering up two-faced optical drives in its desktops, and sure enough, a variety of select Pavilions are now being served up with HD DVD and / or Blu-ray compatibility. The d4995t, m9000t and m9000z all give users the option of purchasing a vanilla dual-layer DVD burner, an HD DVD / Blu-ray combo player (that also burns DVDs), or a drive that burns Blu-ray / DVD and reads HD DVD. Additionally, a number of lesser-spec’d rigs also provide users the option of picking up an HD combo drive of some sort, and you can even snap up ATI’s TV Wonder Digital Cable Tuner on the d4995t and m9000t (among others).

[Thanks, Ryan]
