Sony’s family of projectors just grew by one, with the 1080p VPL-HW10 combining triple-panel SXRD technology, the new BRAVIA Engine 2 eight step image processing, 1000 ANSI lumens, 30,000:1 contrast ratio and x.v.Color support. Dual HDMI inputs, HDMI-CEC control tech, 24p True Cinema, Real Color Processing and quiet 22dB operation ensure a top of the line home theater experience — for something (no MSRP or shipping details here) less than the reiging king of the hill VPL-VW200 and another as-yet-unrevealed higher-end model. So Sony, guess we’ll be seeing you at CEDIA next week?

As the pre-CEDIA releases continue to roll, we’ve got yet another projector from Sanyo. The PLV-Z60 offers up a native 720p resolution, 10,000:1 contrast ratio, 1,200 ANSI lumens, 3D color management system, 12-bit processing IC for video decoding, scaling and gamma curve generation and a 2x optical zoom. You’ll also find VGA, HDMI (x2), component (x2) and S-Video connections, and you can find the PJ itself next month for $1,295. [Warning: PDF read link]

After vaguely describing its new 1080p 3LCD-based PLV-Z700 projector as “entry-level”, Sanyo’s finally returned with a pricetag: $1,995. While that doesn’t exactly spell “cheap” to most, good luck finding another full HD projector that matches these specs with an MSRP starting south of two grand. 10,000:1 contrast ratio, 1,200 ANSI lumens and a variable lens designed to adjust to smaller rooms adds up to the perfect solution for those who want more pixels but less price, expect to find out more when it hits the stage at IFA 2008 in Berlin August 29, followed by store shelves worldwide in October, closing out its run with full specs after the break.

Sigh. We’re still stoked about phones with built-in projectors, but we’re not at all okay with the first commercially-available unit being the nasty Epoq EGP-PP01 iPhone clone — yet we’ve got to hand it to China King for being the first out the gate with a handset that’ll beam a 30-inch VGA image on the wall for two hours off the built-in battery. Of course, that doesn’t mean we think anyone should actually drop $550 on this uninspired piece, but if you’ve absolutely got to show off your witty texting banter to the entire bar, this is your only option.
PS.- Please don’t be that guy.

“Entry-level” and “1080p projector” don’t often go hand-in-hand, but Sanyo’s mashing the two terms together with its PLV-Z700. The Full HD beamer provides a 1,920 x 1,080 native resolution, 1,200 ANSI lumens, 10,000:1 contrast ratio, twin HDMI 1.3b ports (along with an array of others) and a variable iris that can “control lens iris adjustment every 1/60th of a second.” Unfortunately, the most tantalizing tidbit has been omitted for now (yes, the price), but word on the street has it shipping to the UK in October.

While we won’t complain about the performance or styling of InFocus’ Play Big IN83 projector, the $6,000 price tag is a little steep. Sure, it’s got that 1080p DarkChip4 DLP and styling that don’t look like you “borrowed” it from the boardroom, but that $6,000 price tag gives us pause. InFocus is adding the Play Big IN80 model to the lineup to fill the gap, though. The specs put the IN80 above the company’s X10 model — it packs a 1080p DarkChip with BrilliantColor, can pump out 1300 lumens in the snow scenes and shares the design with its IN83 big brother, so you won’t be tempted to try out your PowerPoints at home. Best of all, though is the MSRP £1,299 ($2500) when it ships in September.

Although high-end projection makers have been figuring out this whole 3D beaming thing for awhile now, Lightspeed Design and InFocus are looking to bring the technology to a wider audience with the introduction of its DepthQ stereoscopic 3D projectors. Available in XGA and WXGA flavors, these PJs promise “rock-solid, 120Hz stereo 3D at 1,280 x 720 or 1,024 x 768 resolution” and feature Texas Instruments’ DLP / BrilliantColor technologies, a 2,000:1 contrast ratio and a total weight of just 6.9-pounds. Best of all, these undercut most other single-lens 3D projectors by coming in somewhere under $6,000 apiece, though exact numbers have yet to be disclosed.

While it’s possible they may one day all be replaced by pico projectors, so-called “mobile projectors” are still a mainstay for a good deal of presentation-delivering users out there, and NEC has just introduced two new models for their consideration. Weighing in at a luggable 3.5 pounds apiece, the new NP41 and NP64 DLP projectors each boast a standard 1024 x 768 resolution, along with a 1,600:1 contrast ratio, automatic keystone correction, VGA, RCA, and S-video inputs, and a promised 3,500 hours of lamp life in the projector’s eco mode. The only difference between the two, it seems, is a brighter 3,000 lumens on the NP64, compared to 2,300 on the NP41. You’ll also have to wait a bit longer to get your hands on the NP41, which will land in October for $999, while the NP61 will start shipping in September for $1,399.

Wait, who’s this Mint character anyway? Ah, yes — that Australian firm that hires Aiptek to do at least some of its dirty work. The V10 mini projector that we spotted earlier this year has been blessed with an official price and release date, promising a VGA beam in the palm of your hand for around $600 this September. As a refresher, you’ll get 1GB of internal storage, a microSD expansion slot and a woefully inadequate 60 minutes of battery life. But hey, it’s ridiculously small.

We can’t blame you if you missed it, but Dell’s latest leaked PowerPoint had one little gem tucked away near the end of the 31 slide deck. No, not the Coolslice homeslice, rather the Pocket Projector. Weighing just 1.1 pounds, this LED projector is either incredibly small, or that’s a Texas-sized coffee mug… either of which could be true in Dell country. No word on release date though we expect it to pop with the rest of the Latitude E-series in Q4.

SIM2’s DOMINO line — okay, SIM2’s entire line — isn’t known for being the cheapest bunch. The new DOMINO D60, however, is actually affordable by said company’s standards, checking in at just 4,995 US dollars. This 1080p beamer is based on Texas Instruments’ DarkChip3 0.95-inch DMD chipset and includes a single-chip DLP projection system, BrilliantColor, three different preset modes (Cinema, Dynamic, and Standard) and three user-customizable memories. It’s shipping now for those with fat wallets.

We’ve seen a couple handheld 3D devices, but Infosys just announced that developed a chipset capable of capturing and projecting 3D holograms from ordinary cellphones, and that it hopes to take the tech mainstream by 2010. The system captures a series of 2D images from normal cameras and uses them to develop 3D holograms, projecting received images using a laser projector and micro optical elements. Infosys also had a patent granted on the system required to transmit 3D data over normal telecom networks without clogging them up — the data is transmitted unprocessed, and the chipsets at either end do the heavy lifting. There’s no word on what devices this stuff might appear in, but we’re wondering what that laser system is supposed to project onto — or if we’ll have to take up smoking to get our 3D on.
[Thanks, Bucky]

Hmmph. Outside of Samsung’s blisteringly hot SP-A800B, we’re fairly certain Panasonic’s latest duo are the most impressive at InfoComm. Putting those XGA / WXGA units to shame, the PT-DZ12000U packs a drool-worthy WUXGA resolution (1,920 x 1,200) and 12,000 lumens to boot. The PT-D12000U checks in with the same three-chip DLP engine and lumen count, but eases up on the pixels with just 1,400 x 1,050. Furthermore, both units boast a System Daylight View to keep things visible even in well lit rooms, and the built-in Ethernet port enables remote monitoring and control through a web browser. Just one problem with all of this, though: the $69,000 (PT-DZ12000U) / $59,000 (PT-D12000U) price tags. Must be that Auto Cleaning Robot — good help is hard to find these days.

Although the flood has calmed to a trickle, we’re still seeing a few more new projectors light up at InfoComm. The latest of which is Hitachi’s CP-WX625, a WXGA (1,366 x 768) beamer packing an HDMI socket, 4,000 ANSI lumens, integrated speaker, side-mounted hybrid filter, a lamp good for 3,000 hours or so of PowerPoint projecting and a handful of other inputs more likely to be found in the boardroom / classroom. Mum’s the word on a price or availability, but after one look at Samsung’s SP-A800B, it’s hard to really worry over units like this.

It took nearly a year to get here, but shortly after being reviewed, Samsung’s upscale SP-A800B DLP projector is finally available in the USA. Co-developed with industry legend Joe Kane, this 1080p PJ features a native contrast ratio of 10,000:1, a 95% aperture ratio, 16-microsecond response time and a full 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. Additionally, it hums along quietly at 25dB and gets backed by a two-year warranty. Sammy’s not bothering to tell you the price, but we’ve heard it’ll list for just under ten grand.

Whoa there Sony, try not to get too excited all at once, okay? Over in Vegas today, said outfit has unleashed a veritable smorgasbord of projectors on the world, primarily ones aimed at businesses and large venues. Each of the VPL-EX50, VPL-EX5 and VPL-EW5 beamers include the company’s BrightEra technology and should go well in classrooms, while the XGA VPL-FX41 comes in with 5,000 lumens to light up even the largest rooms. Moving on, we’ve got the WXGA+ (1,366 x 800) VPL-FW300 and the VPL-FH300 (pictured), which offers an even nicer 2,048 x 1,080 resolution. ‘Tis a shame that last one is stickered at $40,000. Hit the read link for more details (pricing included) on the whole lot.

Oh joy, yet another ho hum projector trying to look all cool at InfoComm. Next up on the walk of shame is ViewSonic’s PJ1173, which falls right in line with the other lackluster beamers introduced today by the likes of Sharp, Mitsubishi and Toshiba. The unit includes an XGA (1,024 x 768) native resolution, 1,000:1 contrast ratio, four-watt built-in speakers, an HDMI 1.3 socket and an admittedly respectable 5,000 lumens to light up auditoriums. Granted, this 15.8-pound beast does include an Ethernet port for network connectivity and management, but we’re still not seeing the value when peeking that $3,799 price tag.

Never mind those guys cranking out just one or two new gizmos at InfoComm — Sharp’s busting out the big guns. The company is using the stage in Vegas to introduce a swarm of new gear including the XG-P560W 3-chip DLP WXGA projector, XG-C455W / PG-C355W 3LCD WXGA PJs, XG-P610X XGA unit and four new BrilliantColor DLP beamers (PG-F317X, PG-F312X, PG-F262X and PG-F212X). For those unfazed, it’s also showcasing 46- (TL-M4600) and 52-inch (TL-M5200) professional LCD monitors meant for digital signage applications. As you can probably glean, there’s way too much data on the whole lot to cover in this space, so we’ll kindly direct you to the read link if you’re hungry for more.

It’s not pretty (what Sanyo projector is?), but it is the world’s first 4LCD projector. The 25-pound “portable” PLC-XP200L pumps 7,000 lumens across 1,024 x 768 pixels at a 2,200:1 contrast ratio in exchange for your $9,995. The new 4LCD optical engine adds what Sanyo calls a “color control device” to control the amount of yellow light in the projected image. The results are supposedly images which are “clearer, richer, and more beautiful” than those of 3LCD projectors. Sanyo also dropped in some new silicon allowing for 20% more color space. Ships in September — full press release after the break.

With InfoComm just around the bend, NEC is making sure its two newest projectors don’t get (too) lost in the shuffle. Up first is the NP905, which offers up 3,000 lumens, an XGA (1,024 x 768) native resolution, 500:1 contrast ratio, built-in speaker and HDMI 1.3 socket. The 2,000 lumen NP901W comes in with a WXGA (1,280 x 800) resolution, 400:1 contrast ratio and most of the same specs as its sibling. Both units include Windows Network Projector functionality within Windows Vista (wired or wireless access), a geometric correction tool and the highly-regarded Silicon Optix HQV processor. Catch ‘em this July for $1,999.99 and $1,299.99, respectively.
