Mildly frightening Verizon promo video gets employees hype for BlackBerry Storm

September 15th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Hey, bet you’d like to know that Verizon Wireless’ Mike (you know, from Minute with Mike) thinks the BlackBerry Storm is going to “crush the competition.” He also expects his sales team to “take the world by storm.” He also states that this handset’s screen is “built to be the most responsive of its time.” Oh, but he totally neglects to mention a price and / or release date. Thanks Mike. Thanks a lot. Full mind-numbing episode is after the jump.

Windows Gurus to infiltrate retail stores, tell you why Vista rules

September 6th, 2008 by

In case you missed the completely baffling Gates / Seinfeld ad, here’s the skinny: Microsoft is getting serious about polishing the tarnished Vista brand (it’s words, not ours). According to new reports, that aforementioned spot is just the beginning of Redmond’s costly push to “change consumers’ perception of Windows,” and soon you’ll be seeing Microsoft Gurus in your favorite B&M locations. These so-called experts will be there to “explain the benefits of Windows,” but we’re not sure if they’ll only be around to answer inquiries or if they’ll be actively approaching you in an uncomfortable attempt to talk about Aero and ReadyBoost. We’re hearing that some 155 representatives will be deployed before the year’s end at stores like Best Buy and Circuit City, so at least you now know where not to shop if you’re terrified of confrontation.

Video: Samsung’s Soulful dinosaur takes tour around England

June 23rd, 2008 by

Filed under:

Remember that not-entirely-innocent looking prehistoric creature that won your heart immediately upon viewing Samsung’s optical illusion promotional vid? Apparently quite a few folks demanded to see more of the Soul dinosaur, so Sammy hoisted him up onto a truck and proceeded to drive around a few English towns. Catch the sub-2 minute journey (reactions included) just after the break.

[Thanks, Claudio]

AT&T launches BlackBerry Bold promotional site

June 12th, 2008 by

Filed under:

See that image above? Yeah, that’s a sexy new side angle of RIM’s BlackBerry Bold, and it’s coming to us courtesy of AT&T. Just as Sprint did with its fashionable Instinct, AT&T is launching a promotional site for the forthcoming BlackBerry in order to drum up interest and get you (re)informed. Straight from the carrier’s mouth, we’ve got GPRS / EDGE / UMTS / HSDPA support, integrated WiFi / GPS, 480 x 320 resolution display, a side-loaded memory slot, 1GB of built-in storage, a 624MHz CPU, 128MB of Flash memory, Bluetooth 2.0 with handsfree support and up to 5-hours of GSM talk time (13 days in standby). You’ll notice that the operator makes no mention of an exact release date, but we’re crossing our fingers and sticking to that leaked July timeframe until we hear otherwise.

[Thanks, Daryl]

Just in case you haven’t learned enough about the forthcoming Samsung Instinct from our hands-on gallery / UI video walkthrough, Sammy has launched a promotional website designed to give you the skinny. Within the site, you can peer at a handful of press shots, get schooled on all of its features and sign up to be notified when it’s ready for your hands to be wrapped around it. Nothing too exciting, but those with the Instinct high on their list of next mobile to own will surely find it worth the click over.

Intel’s MID commercial tells us what we already knew

April 13th, 2008 by

Okay, so there’s a fair amount of folks out there still wondering what exactly a MID (Mobile Internet Device) can do for them, and while some may scrutinize the facts and still come away in a haze, Intel has unleashed a new 84 second spot hyping the platform’s ability to keep you connected in nearly any locale. The plug trumpets the “great battery life” you’re just guaranteed to get as well as the ability to connect via WiFi or WiMAX. Beyond accessing the web, you’ll also find promotions for multimedia playback and “catching up on your work” — the latter of which we’re thoroughly skeptical about. Still, you’re likely to get a hearty chuckle out of it if nothing else, so click on past the break to get schooled.
