There may not have been any word of a new PSP out of E3 as some had suspected, but it looks Sony may have a bit of a late surprise for us, at least if these tantalizing pics from PSPChina are to be believed. Apparently, this new PSP-3000 model remains mostly unchanged from the current PSP-2000, with the notable addition of a built-in microphone and a somewhat less notable PlayStation button in place of the usual Home button. As you can see in the picture after the break, the signature steel ring on the back of the PSP also appears to have been trimmed a bit (there’s a pic of the inside of the case as well, for the curious). Not exactly the DS Lite sort of upgrade that’d make everyone ditch their old PSPs to be sure but, as we’ve seen with the PSP-2000, it would be about par for the course for Sony.

If you’ve got a PSP-2000 and a hankering for some VoIP on the run, Sony has finally brought its Skype-friendly PSP headset to US retail. Unfortunately, it won’t work with those original fatty PSPs, and at $30 you’ve gotta ask yourself how much you’ll really be using it for — the original price was set at $20. That said, it’s undoubtedly the easiest way to get up and running with Skype and in-game voice chat on the PSP, since it used to require two separate accessories to pull it off. Oh, and if you’re Skype curious, be sure to check out the how-to guide over at PSP Fanboy.

It’s been a while since the PSP Slim got all up on your TV, but Sony wasn’t going to leave you hanging forever without a slick docking solution — say hola to the new PSP Cradle. Apart from some of that old-time Sony design flair, there’s not much else to it: you dock your PSP, images show up on your TV, and you control things with the included remote. On sale April 24th in Japan for ¥4,800 ($46), or ¥6,500 ($62) bundled with a D Terminal AV cable.

Sony’s been quite liberal with its color options for the PSP over in Japan so far, and it doesn’t look like things are switching up much with the PSP-2000 “slim.” This time Sony’s busting out a rather appetizing “Mint Green” PSP to the expectant hordes that haven’t already gone broke buying the endless iterations already answered by the company. Of course, there’s no word or expectation of an US release, so we’re off to the art supplies shop for another set of acrylics.

In the latest PR game called “we sold a million!” Sony steps up with their bid for attention, the million selling PSP-2000. That’s 1 million sold just in Japan since the slimmer, lighter, more colorful model was introduced on September 20th. Remarkably, that’s two weeks faster than it took the original PSP to hit the same milestone after its launch way back in December, 2004. For comparison sake, the PS3 took 8 months to move 1 million units. Things sure seem to be looking up for Sony’s fiscal anchor called a game division.

If you’ve been looking to jump into PSP land for personal reasons, perhaps are looking to upgrade to a new PSP-2000 “slim,” consider yourself a Star Wars fanboy, or maybe just like white things, the new Darth Vader PSP could be just the ticket. The limited edition unit should be on store shelves today, but only comes as part of a $199 bundle which includes the new Star Wars Battlefront game. Of course, we’re guessing most people willing to track down a PSP with Darth Vader’s likeness silkscreened on the back aren’t going to balk at playing a little bit of Battlefront now and then. And if paying money for things isn’t really your style, you can always try your luck over at our siter site Joystiq, since they’re giving away five of these bundles to some lucky readers.

We’ve got all ideas that this tidbit won’t infuriate too many users, but nevertheless, Sony will reportedly not be bringing S-Video cables to America for its PSP Slim. According to GameInformer, Sony wanted to “streamline its selection, giving owners a choice between cables supporting composite, the de facto standard, and component inputs.” Interestingly, both of the cables that will be for sale here will cost the same $19.99, and if you’re somehow still using a television that rocks an array of S-Video ports but not a single component input, the import option is always there.
