Sprint’s Touch Diamond snags an August 28th release date

August 24th, 2008 by

Filed under:

A few new details have leaked in from corroborating tipsters about Sprint’s Verizon-slaying version of the HTC Touch Diamond, and we’re pretty sure you’ll be interested in hearing ‘em. The biggest news is the release date — instead of having to wait until after Labor Day, Sprint users interested in nabbing the handset will reportedly be able to do so this Thursday. Also of note, it sounds as if Sprint will indeed be referring to the Diamond as, well, the Diamond (and not the Victor). Oh, and the extra bulk over the GSM counterpart will net it a more capacious 1,350mAh battery. For those that skipped straight to the closer (it’s cool, really): August 28th, $299 on a 2-year contract, or $549 straight out.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

HTC report says Touch Diamond is coming to Sprint this month

August 2nd, 2008 by

Filed under:

Don’t rule out the possibility that this is a complete and utterly disgusting fib, but a recent writeup in The China Post about HTC’s financial situation very clearly states when the hotly-anticipated Touch Diamond is coming to Sprint: this month. If you’re looking for the play-by-play, the article proclaims that the “company released its Diamond phone in Asia in June and will begin selling the handset through Sprint Nextel Corp. in August.” Look, we’ve seen a CDMA version of this thing donning Sprint garb, we’ve watched it fall into the capable hands of the FCC and we know it has to arrive sometime. If all of this doesn’t add up to Sprint getting the Touch Diamond in August, well, we’ll let you do the math.

[Thanks, Sumit]

Mint’s V10 mini projector gets price and release date

August 1st, 2008 by

Filed under:

Wait, who’s this Mint character anyway? Ah, yes — that Australian firm that hires Aiptek to do at least some of its dirty work. The V10 mini projector that we spotted earlier this year has been blessed with an official price and release date, promising a VGA beam in the palm of your hand for around $600 this September. As a refresher, you’ll get 1GB of internal storage, a microSD expansion slot and a woefully inadequate 60 minutes of battery life. But hey, it’s ridiculously small.

Intel’s dual-core Atom 330 processor to ship in Q4 2008

July 24th, 2008 by

Filed under:

Bad news, Atom fans. That dual-core nugget of netbook-powering goodness that you were so looking forward to seeing in Q3 won’t begin shipping until Q4. According to some data picked up by Fudzilla, the Atom 330 will only be debuting in Q3 (September 21st, to be precise), but it isn’t scheduled to get a shipping label until a few months later. Also of note, we’re told that the chip will sell (at some place in the supply chain) for $43, but don’t count on those savings being completely passed onto you.

[Thanks, sinai]

Blackberry Bold release date delayed?

June 25th, 2008 by

Filed under:

According to reports crossing the wires this morning, Research In Motion is expected to delay the release of its next-gen BlackBerry Bold. The Boy Genius is claiming that software issues, battery life problems, and overheating are causing the hold-up, which will move the street date back to mid-August as opposed to the presumed July release on AT&T. There’s been no confirmation from RIM on the news, but that’s not stopping analysts from predicting the move will lower the company’s second quarter earnings outlook. We’re pretty sure it’ll make businessmen with twitchy thumbs none-too-happy as well.

[Thanks, Sam]

Canon Rebel XSi release date pushed back?

April 13th, 2008 by

Filed under:

After seeing that spy shot and the Amazon link with an April release date, it seemed like Canon’s Rebel XSi was bound to drop any moment, but now that may not be the case. According to the latest info plastered up at the online-retailer, you won’t be able to get your hands on the new DSLR until June 15th, which is basically a lifetime if you’ve been waiting on this. It could just be a minor mixup, but frankly we’re not holding our breath.

Update:
According to a number of commenters, this camera is available pretty widely right now. Apparently, Amazon is the only place on Earth where the release is being delayed. Sweet!

[Thanks, Kirill]

Windows 7 still slated for 2010 says Microsoft, Bill Gates just crazy-talking

April 7th, 2008 by

If your pants / panties were in a “bunch” upon hearing news that Windows 7 would be headed into your ever-loving arms “next year,” you might just want to hold off on those party invites for a little bit. Sure, Bill Gates just happened to mention that we’d see a new version of the OS “Sometime in the next year or so,” but it’s looking like that “or so” makes a world of difference. Microsoft wants to chill everyone out with the somber news that its got no plans to introduce Windows 7 any earlier than January 2010 (three years from the launch of Vista), and reassure us that crazy old Gates may have just been talkin’ developer speak. “As is standard with the release of a new product, we will be releasing early builds of Windows 7 prior to its general availability as a means to gain tester feedback,” a spokesman for Microsoft said, downplaying Gates’ statement. Of course, this means that XP’s cutoff will suddenly move even further down the line, which makes us wonder what the point of setting that June 2010 date was in the first place. Why are you toying with us like this, Microsoft?

[Thanks, Tony]

Cowon’s US-bound Q5W gets price, release date

November 22nd, 2007 by

Good news for those not-so-patiently awaiting the launch of Cowon’s totally hopped up Q5W (formerly known as the Q5) — the US-bound uber-PMP is set to launch next week for slightly more jack than we heard earlier this year. Specs wise, we’re looking at a 5-inch WVGA (800 x 480) display, 128MB of DDR2 SDRAM, 64MB of Flash memory, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, WinCE 5.0, a voice recorder, photo / text viewer, USB connectivity and support for more file formats than you can shake a flip-out antenna at. ‘Course, such a well-spec’d unit won’t come sans a premium, so don’t be too shocked when you see that the 40GB version will run you $549.99 while the 60GB iteration demands an extra $50.
