Been longing for Eye-Fi support in your Sony a350? Or any CompactFlash-lovin’ camera, for that matter? Meet Synchrotech, your new best friend. The company famous for making incredibly useful adapters has just pumped out its latest stroke of genius, the CFMulti. As you’d expect, this card fits into traditional CF slots but enables Secure Digital cards to be read, including Eye-Fi’s range of wireless SD cards. In addition to that, the device accepts standard SD / SDHC and MMC / MMC+ cards. You know you’d pay $28 for all that functionality in one tight package, right?

Yeah, the solution seemed pretty obvious to us, and now it looks like Nintendo’s willing to admit it. Nintendo will be solving its little Wii Shop game storage overflow problem by opening up the SD card slot for storing and playing games from (with DRM galore, we’re sure). The update will hit in the Spring of next year, and don’t forget that 2GB maximum when stocking up on the little buggers. It’s not exactly as exciting as a new DS, but we’re really glad Nintendo’s going to do the right thing here, instead of building yet another peripheral to clutter our lives with.

It’s not making the same sized splash as the tidal wave created by SanDisk today, but Fujifilm is still vying for your flash card dollars with a bundle of newcomers. On the vanilla SD front, we’re seeing a new 1GB SD and 2GB SD card, while those scouting a microSD card can key in on the new 1GB and 2GB flavors there, too. Stepping it up are the 4/8/16GB SDHC cards and the tinier 4/8GB microSDHC units. There’s no mention of dollars and cents, but the whole colorful group should be on store shelves next month.

Frustrated by somewhat sluggish transfers from your otherwise spectacular Eye-Fi card? Fret not, as the company has just announced a forthcoming update at Photokina that will reportedly enable new and existing Eye-Fi owners to make “the upload of digital photos from camera to computer twice as fast.” Also of note, as of October 5th, users can even add features that aren’t already included on their card and renew annual services by tapping into the updated Eye-Fi Manager Web application. In related news, the outfit will be pushing its wares to Japan and Canada by the year’s end, and in even more related news, Eye-Fi now supports direct photo uploads to Apple’s MobileMe and the AdoramaPix service.

We’d heard Lexar and Eye-Fi were getting snuggly back in January, and look at that — nine months later the Lexar Shoot-n-Sync WiFi SD card has arrived on our doorstep. The 2GB card is basically just a Lexar-branded Eye-Fi Share, so you pretty much already know how it works — you shoot, it uploads — and it’s even the same $99 price, so yeah, yawn. Hopefully these two will do something a little more interesting now that they’ve gotten used to working together. Lexar also kicked out a number of other cards, including a new 4GB Memory Stick Micro M2 card, a 16GB Platinum II 60x SDHC card, and a 16GB Platinum II 80x CompactFlash card — no pricing or availability on any of those yet, but we’d expect them soon.

It looks like the SD Card Association association is starting to spread its wings beyond the comforts of removable storage, with it now aiming for a piece of the embedded storage market with its new, appropriately-named Embedded SD standard. Set to actually make its debut in devices this November, the new standard apparently makes use of many tried-and-true SD standards, which the association says should ease platform design in cellphones and consumer electronics devices and speed up widespread adoption. Among other things, the standard includes support both 3.3V and 1.8V power supplies, a flexible partition mechanism to allow for multiple partitions to accommodate various types of data, various data-protection and power-saving measures and, of course, an option to boot from the embedded SD. There’s still no word on any specific devices that’ll employ the standard, but you can expect them to max out with 32GB of on-board memory and 32GB of removable storage.

SanDisk’s pushed both Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo and regular SD cards to 30MB/s transfer rates before, and now it’s SDHC’s turn with the new Extreme III series. Yep, it’s a really fast memory card for DSLRs, and it’ll cost you: 4GB will be $65, 8GB $110 and 16GB will set you back whopping $180 when these hit in October.

As your never-ending quest to find peripherals specifically made to match beautifully with your PowerMac G5 / Mac Pro continues, we’ve one that’ll surely shoot right to the top of your must-have list. Nervian’s CardReader Pro slips just under the front handle of your tower, providing (almost) integrated card reader functionality without putting a damper on your rig’s style. Better still, the USB 2.0 unit supports 52 different flavors of flash memory, ensuring that just about every card you toss in there will mount in short order. There’s no word on how costly this will be when it ships in October, but those definitely interested can nab 15% off by signing up for details at the outfit’s website.
[Thanks, choco]

Launching 6 and 12GB SDHC cards seems a little boring at this point, especially when your company has already gone way, way larger. Which is why Panasonic’s got the 6 and 12GB RP-SDM06G and RP-SDM12G class 4 (10MBps) SDHC cards which are apparently “designed for HD recording.” Love when they do that.

Have you been sitting on the sidelines while all the cool people stick Linux distros and Snes9x on their “Twilight Hack” Wiis? Seems like there aren’t any more excuses to keep out of the game now that you can do the hack with a regular SD card in the Wii’s regular SD card slot — no more GameCube memory adapters required. No fancy boot sector surgery is required either, you just drop a .elf file onto your memory card and you’re ready to go. Check out the video after the break if you still need more convincing.
Update: Now with actual video goodness after the break.

It’s taken well over a year for Eye-Fi to bring its self-titled wireless SD card to market, but on the plus side, that Benjamin now gets you 2GB of storage — a welcome boost for a rumored capacity that had dipped as low as 512MB. In case the past 18 months have made the details a little fuzzy, this 802.11g card requires a one-time setup on your PC before it’s ready to automatically upload full resolution pics to one of 17 websites each time you turn on your camera. Even better, a backup copy is also sent to your PC, ensuring that your photos are safely archived when your favorite social network folds.

It’s taken nearly a full year, but Eye-Fi has finally gotten around to doubling the capacity of its multifaceted SD card. The Eye-Fi-2GB provides the same WiFi-enabling capabilities to any SD-ready digital camera, but this one looks to pack 2GB of capacity to handle even more snaps. From what we can tell by peeking the (apparently scanned in) user’s manual, the card will be compatible with both Macs and PCs, but of course, we’ve no idea how much this thing will cost you when it finally hits shelves. Rest assured, we’ll be finding out soon enough.

Looking for a car stereo that does it all? Maybe the boys and girls at Parrot can help you out with its latest and greatest — the RK8200. In a rare case of ultimate convergence, the electronics-maker is bringing you a head-unit for your vehicle which boasts a USB port, SD card reader, line-in jack, iPod connector, and A2DP Bluetooth support. Let’s be honest — that’s a lot of options for your system. In addition to the Swiss-Army-like connectivity choices, the stereo has an additional 2GB of onboard storage, and the faceplate drops down to reveal an area where you can store a device (or anything else). The RK8200 can also be coupled with a mobile phone for hands-free talking / dialing, can hold up to 8000 of your precious contacts, and touts voice recognition and intelligent microphone switching. Here’s the kicker: you don’t even have to rob a bank to get one of these puppies — the stereo will be out by the end of the year for the very affordable price of £149.99 (or around $302).
