Remember that fad where everyone had dining room tables of their favorite Disney character? Or the age in the 70s where tables were shaped like lava lamps? No? At any rate, the modders over at SCAD Inc. have spent all summer crafting a fully-functional Super Nintendo controller-table, which reminds us an awful lot of the fully-functional NES controller-table we saw in May of this year. So, which geek is gonna take on the N64 controller table? Or better yet, the Virtual Boy?

Not willing to lay out the cash required to sneak the official Super Famicom Wii controller into the States? Don’t feel like going through the insanity of making your own wireless NES and SNES controllers for the Wii? Raphaël’s epic X2Wii project might just be your ticket to Virtual Console bliss. He’s worked up an adapters for the NES, SNES and N64 controllers to plug straight into your Wii’s GameCube port, and while they certainly aren’t simple, it’s all DIY magic.

While most of the cool kids are off whizzing around courses in Mario Kart Wii, the gurus at Force Dynamics are reminiscing about the one that started it all. Apparently the firm has tweaked its 301 motion platform to actually control the kart in the SNES hit, and the rider’s chair even leaps up along with Mario, Peach or any other jumping character you choose. Sure, it’s missing those absolutely brain-melting Wii graphics (but not by much, if you catch our drift), but we’d probably take a ride in this over an hour with the Wii Wheel any day. Check out the full video waiting after the break.

Finally, Engadget editor Paul Miller’s prayers have been answered — in the form of a homebrew SNES emulator for the Wii. It’s no secret that Paul is eerily obsessed with the SNES, and now he can get access to all his favorites (import or otherwise) with another Wii tweak. A hacker named RobertFC has ported SNES9X to Nintendo’s money maker, and it even includes support for the Wiimote, Classic controller, and two-player game modes. We’re assuming this is all part of the much-loved Twilight Princess exploit, though they’re a bit short on detail. Hit the read link and start breaking Nintendo’s heart ASAP!

Ah, Japan — it just gets all the dope controllers, doesn’t it? Just days after hearing that a Wii-white GameCube controller was headed there soon, a lucky, lucky member of Club Nintendo has unboxed his limited edition Wii Super Famicom Classic Controller. Yep, this token of nostalgia that we heard about way back in November of last year has finally arrived in the Land of the Rising Sun. Really, we can’t believe you — being the diehard Nintendo fanatic that you shamelessly are — haven’t already made it to the read link to check out the gallery of shots, but we won’t ask you to test your patience any longer. Now, get!

DIY game consoles are hardly the rare occurrence they once were, but this so-called Super Genintari project (previously known as Leviticus) is definitely a step above most, and more than enough to make us a little green with envy. As you may be able to discern from the project’s name, this behemoth of a console brings the Atari 2600, NES, SNES and Genesis together at long last, with each system available at the push of a clickety-clackety button and ample controller ports provided for each. What’s more, while there’s quite the mess coming out of the front of the console with all the controllers attached, the rig does at least neatly connect to a TV with a single AV cable. Be sure to head on over past the break to check out a video of it action, and hit up the link below for the fully story and plenty of pictures.
[Thanks, Jenn]

Sure, you’ve seen the portable wooden SNES, but if you’ve been looking for something with more of that fresh-off-the-showroom-floor sheen, maybe you should check into this Ben Heck-forum user’s design. Using a modified Polycase, dual lithium-ion batteries, a 5-inch Zenith LCD, and a whole bunch of Super Nintendo, the modder created what could easily be mistaken for a bona-fide production model. Sure, the back looks a tad bit messy, but “Life of Brian” (the SNES fan in question) has managed to squeeze in a second controller port and A/V outs — no small feat. Check the video after the break to see the handheld in action… a lot of action… like, the guy plays StarFox for a long time.

If you’re an owner or prospective owner of the Cowon Q5W, you’re probably impressed with its myriad audio and video playback capabilities — but did you know it can handle emulation as well? Apparently, since the device is based on Windows CE, it’s fairly easy to get game emulators up and running on the 5-inch PMP. In the video you can watch a setup of what appears to be an SNES imitator playing both Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario Kart (two favorites of our SNES fanboy, Paul Miller, we suspect). The games are controlled by a decidedly non-Nintendo accessory — a PS1 controller connected via USB adapter. With that recent $50 price drop, this may be just the incentive you need to spring for a shiny new edition to your gadget library.

We’ve seen a lot of phones float our way over the years, and some of them have had emulation capability, but it’s rare when you see a mobile phone-maker actually advocating that you pirate ROMs for their device. Of course, that’s exactly what Fly Mobile is doing when it comes to its MC100 handset. The phone has all kinds of regular features we’re sure you’d be interested in, like a 240 x 320 display, AAC, MP3 and MPEG4 playback, a microSD slot, and that handsome, “noble” dark brown finish. It all sounds good, but we know there’s only one set of qualities you’ll be laying down cash for: the phone’s ability to play SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and NES ROMs. Just remember, your favorites “can be freele [sic] downloaded frim [sic] Internet.” $270 and it’s yours.

This here S5 doesn’t really have much in the specs department that isn’t inside of every single wholesale PMP to come out of China in the past year, but with emulators for NES, Sega and even SNES (a rarity for these things) built in, we’d certainly give it a second look where it to ever show up Stateside. Outside of the gaming you’re looking at a 2.4-inch LCD, and some decent codec support, including Flash video. No word on price or when this thing will be hitting obscure Chinese retailers in limited quantities.

You’ve waited, you’ve watched, and now your wildest dreams are about to come true. That’s right, someone has coded a native SNES emulator for the iPhone / iPod touch. Right now, the project is still in the beta / testing phase, but you can be assured that in the very near future, your sweaty hands will be smudging all over a virtual controller during heart-pounding games of F-Zero, Killer Instinct, and Super Metroid. If you absolutely can’t wait one more second (Paul Miller, we’re looking at you), slip the developers a donation and they’ll break you off some beta test action. If you’re the patient type, you can enjoy the video after the break, and sit tight till the app goes public.
[Thanks, Daniel]

Ah, eBay. Home to some of the rarest, most incredible devices known (and previously unknown) to man. On the docket today is a stupendously rare, unreleased development controller for use with the SNES CD dev kit. Yep, a unreleased controller for an unreleased system — pretty much a collector’s dream. Unfortunately, the controller alone won’t do you very much good beyond hooking you up with unbelievable bragging rights, but unless you’ve got $2,999.99 (at least) to blow, the above picture is close as you’ll get to this treasure.

Watch out Ben Heck, there’s a new console modder in town, and this here wooden portable SNES is making you look bad. There’s really not much else to say about this unit other than our standard dose of fanboyishness. The thing was built out of a standard Super Nintendo, and LED-backlit PSONe display and a whole bunch of love — that wooden case is all custom. Suffice it to say: we want. Video of it in action after the break.

Like some of our editors here at Engadget, we know you long for the carefree, multi-hued days of the Super Nintendo and all its Mode 7 glory. Well, if you live in Japan, are a member of Club Nintendo (wherein you earn points for purchases of the company’s games and accessories), and have the patience to wait until April, you could be the proud owner of the Wii SNES (Super Famicom, rather) controller. The gamepad won’t be commercially available, nor will it be offered stateside (as far as we know), so now is the time to firm up your relationships with Japanese friends, or start saving pennies for your forthcoming eBay bidding war. Either way, the chance to relive your youth is just around the corner.
