The remake for the 1980 classic movie Fame, that should not be redone just got so much worse after they announced who will be playing the teachers in the movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter Megan Mullally, Kelsey Grammer, Charles S. Dutton, Bebe Neuwirth and Debbie Allen have all been cast as teachers.
All five actors have noteworthy performing arts backgrounds. Mullally, who will play a voice instructor, graduated from the School of American Ballet; Grammer, who will play an orchestra conductor, attended Juilliard; Dutton, who will play an acting teacher, went to the Yale School of Drama; and Neuwirth, who will play a dance teacher, has won two Tonys.
And Allen, who played dance teacher Lydia Grant in the original film, will appear in the updated version as Principal Simms.
Their background would be more influential if Mullally and Grammer played what they were trained to do. And Allen should play the dance teacher anything else is just wrong. I like Bebe so I am glad to see her on the big screen. I just wish the movie wasn’t going to the big screen, but going where it deserves…Straight-to-DVD.

Columbia Pictures is getting one step closer to Ghostbusters 3 by hiring two writers according to Variety!
The studio has set “The Office” co-exec producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky to write a script for a film designed to bring back together the original cast of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson.
I hope they also bring back Rick Moranis, Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man and Ray Parker Jr!
It will be interesting if The Office writers can do this movie justice and of the original cast can handle the sequel 20 years after the last one?

NBC is working on updating The Wonder Years with a show called Lost in the ’80s according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The project, produced by Sony Pictures TV and studio-based Tantamount, is described as “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” meets “The Ice Storm.”
It is considered an ’80s version of “Wonder Years,” the half-hour dramedy set 20 years prior that tackled the social issues and historic events of the late ’60s through the eyes of teen Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage).
Unlike other remakes the show actually hired a writer from The Wonder years who will hopefully keep the feel of the original. But even with that I wish networks would create original shows like the upcoming Fringe on Fox.

Be afraid, be very afraid The Fly is being turned in to an Opera by the director who remade the classic in 1986 according to the Daily Star.
Rather than singing, the operatic tenor will be conducting performances. Placido admits at first he was dubious about bringing the film to the stage: “I was a little skeptical about the subject. ‘The Fly?’ I said ‘well, how is it going to be reading for an opera?’ but it just takes somebody that has the experience of composer Howard Shore to write the music, and he has done a score that goes fabulously well with the story.”
While I think it can work as an Opera, I have no intention to see it when it opens here in LA next month. There is just something that seems wrong about it.
Here is one of my all-time most memorable scenes, and thankfully The Fly: The Opera is not based on this version of the movie! I think if it were Vincent Price would be turning over in grave or haunting someone over it! That seems like his style, no?

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that MGM has found its writer for the latest movie they are destroying, I mean remaking, Poltergeist. I don’t give a sh!t enough to read the story because after I read “Poltergeist remake” on the title I stopped reading any further. Why? Why? Why?
May the writers NOT go in to light and come out. Seriously the original Poltergeist is a long rumored cursed movie, so why remake it and kill off a few people. You know that is just wrong.
Seriously this movie is scary as is, what made it scary was special effects like they used real skeletons, now they will use CG effects which will take away from it.
Please MGM leave this classic alone and try coming up with an original.
Ha ha, the last laugh is on you because you are still stuck with Tom Cruise’s failure called UA…oh wait the curse has started!

Latino Review asked Tyrese if the rumor that he is going to be in the new A-Team movie is true and here is what he told them…
Tyrese: Yes sir. Soon as that script come back in and they tweak that thing out, we gonna go ahead and get movin'.
They also added that Ice Cube has long-been rumored for the role of B.A. Baracus, so maybe Tyrese is not taking over the role that made Mr T a star. I really hope that Ice Cube is the new BA Baracus and not Tyrese because I think he will be so much better in the role. Not that I will find out because I have no intention of seeing the movie.
Oh I might as well go ahead and say it, "I pity the fool!"

I feel like I am trapped in a Nightmare in Elm Street movie because I am stuck in a nightmare I can't wake up from. It was bad enough when Michael Bay's production company announced that they were destroying Elm Street, now according to WENN Billy Bob Thornton has signed on to play Freddy Krueger. If they were going to cast an older Freddy why didn't they just stick with the original Robert Englund.
Michael Bay, Shia's accident halting production on your next piece of overpriced crap was the horror G-ds getting back at you for destroying horror classics like Elm Street an Friday the 13th. Please please please please stop.

Hawaii Five-0 and The Witches of Eastwick are set to be destroyed, I mean be redone for TV.
The showrunner of Criminal Minds is working on bringing Hawaii Five-o into the millennium on CBS according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Like the original series, it is a procedural chronicling the workings of the fictional Hawaiian state police department. In the original, the unit was headed by Steve McGarrett, played by Jack Lord. In the new series, McGarrett’s son Chris will be the top cop.
While the characters, storytelling and pacing will be updated, “we will try to keep as much of the original show as possible,” Bernero said. “I’m not trying to reinvent it.”
The famous opening music will be back but may also get a face-lift, much in the vein of the theme from the 1966-73 series “Mission: Impossible,” which was rearranged for the 1990s movie franchise.
As for the staple “Book ‘em, Danno” closing line, there will be a version of it in the new installment, Bernero said.
Over on ABC they are working their potion to bring The Witches of Eastwick on to the small screen according to Sci Fi Wire. Not much more is known about the project except that ABC ordered a pilot for the possible show.
Hey network executives, what happened to coming up with original programming? I mean did you guys need to bring back or import shows Knight Rider, Kath and Kim and 90210? Well 90210 is OK, but the rest could have remained where they were. Please try to come up with something new and not remake what had already been done!

The Cartoon Network is doing a prequel to the movie that brought Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze, Jr together, although neither will be in the third Scooby-Doo according to The Hollywood Reporter. The prequel, Scooby-Doo: In The Beginning will show how the gang got together and fought their ghost. I don’t know why, but I kind of want to see this movie
Unlike the previous movies this movie will star a bunch of no names when it debuts on The Cartoon Network next fall.

Variety is reporting Howard Stern (yes that Howard Stern) is producing a remake of the 1980 classic movie Rock N’ Roll High School, that should have been left as is. The only saving grace is that it is being written by Alex Winter aka Bill and Ted’s Bill. But even with that news, I am sure 3 out of the 4 Ramones are turning over in their graves.
If that news wasn’t bad enough, he is also producing a remake the 1982 movie Porky’s that is expected to start production this fall. I am off to cry, but in the meantime enjoy the infamous shower scene!
One of my favorite things about that shower scene is when it airs on non-cable stations they change the body part poking through that hole to his nose! She would know that nse anywhere!!! LOL!

Leonardo DiCaprio is close to bringing his favorite show The Twilight Zone to the big screen according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The studio and production company are quietly putting out word to creators that they are looking for pitches and script ideas based on the show for feature development.
The companies are not seeking to remake an episodic movie, as the only big-screen version of the show did 25 years ago, but rather hope to build one continuing story line based on one or more episodes.
Warners is negotiating for rights to the Rod Serling-penned episodes,
I wonder if M Knight Shyamalan is going to pitch something for this because his movies are more like Twilight Zone episodes than feature length films.
Hopefully since The Twilight Zone is one of Leo’s favorite shows, that he will do it justice when he brings it to the big screen.

MGM is bringing RoboCop into the new millennium according to The Hollywood Reporter. Not much more is known, but Darren Aronofsky will direct. Why him, he is such an odd choice. I was kind of excited for the movie because I liked the original movies, but with him as director it is off my maybe-see list. Maybe I am so negative about it because I hated Requiem for a Dream and the way it was shot.

MTV is destroying, I mean remaking The Rocky Horror Picture Show according to Variety. They will keep to original 1975 movie, but they will add some music that didn’t make the movie.
No cast has been announced, but if I could cast it…John Mayer or Justin Timberlake as Dr. Frank-N-Furter (I apologize to Tim Curry for suggesting them, but who doesn’t want to see those guys his outfits) actually I would cast Craig Bierko as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, Zac Efron and Mandy Moore as Brad and Janet and of course Meat Loaf as Eddie!!!
They are trying to get this on the network a year from Halloween. I am not sure what is scarier Halloween or the fact that MTV is remaking this midnight classic!!

Movie bosses want to bring Top Gun back to the big screen, but only if Tom Cruise says yes according to The Sun.
A script outline has been written, but the sequel depends on Cruise, 46, saying yes.
An insider said: “The idea is Maverick is at the Top Gun school as an instructor — and this time it is he who has to deal with a cocky new female pilot.”
I think if they did this movie 10 years ago, it could have been a hit. But so much stuff has happened with Tom Cruise’s career and personal life, that this movie doesn’t have a chance. I loved Top Gun, but I don’t want to see Tom Cruise do it again.

MGM is remaking the 1983 movie Valley Girl in to a musical movie according to Variety. The original ’80s music from the movie will play a part in the new adaptation.
1. A Million Miles Away - The Plimsouls
2. Johnny, Are You Queer? - Josie Cotton
3. Eyes Of A Stranger - Payolas
4. Angst In My Pants - Sparks
5. Who Can It Be Now? - Men At Work
6. Everywhere At Once - The Plimsouls
7. I La La La Love You - Pat Travers’ Black Pearl
8. He Could Be The One - Josie Cotton
9. Love My Way - Psychedelic Furs
10. Jukebox (Don’t Put Another Dime) - The Flirts
11. The Fanatic - Felony
12. She Talks In Stereo - Gary Myrick & The Figures
13. Oldest Story In The World - The Plimsouls
14. School Is In - Josie Cotton
15. I Melt With You - Modern English
Normally I hate remakes of movies, but I am actually like excited for this one. The music was so much fun and it could actually work. It would be totally awesome if they like cast Nicolas Cage as the dad, don’t you like think.
Blogger note: when I saw this movie as a kid, I so wanted to be a Valley Girl and now I am one!!! Like wow!

Eddie Murphy as The Incredible Shrinking Man? Well according to The Hollywood Reporter Brett Ratner is in final negotiations to direct a remake of the 1957 movie. For some reason I think the movie I think they will be remaking will be more like The Incredible Shrinking Woman.
As you know I hate remakes, but I think Eddie Murphy could actually pull it off, so I don’t mind them redoing this one.

Yet another cheesey horror movie from the ’80s is being destroyed and being remade in 3-D. The massacre continues with My Bloody Valentine according to The Hollywood Reporter. The only reason why I have a little more hope for this movie is that Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles is attached and it is not being destroyed by Michael Bay’s stupid production company, but that doesn’t mean I am going to see it.
The movie will begin filming May 12th and you can skip it in theaters on January 23, 2009.

Fame is the latest movie to be remade according to Variety. The movie will be like the original where it follow kids from auditioning to get in to the High School of Performing Arts to the day graduate. They will be having open-call auditions next month on both coasts to discover some new talent for the role. Hopefully this movie that begins production on Labor Day won’t be that bad. This is one of the few remakes that could actually work!
