The writers cancel the Golden Globes Awards show

January 7th, 2008 by

The writers wins and the fan lose as the WGA forced the cancellation of the Golden Globe Awards show according to MediaWeek.

NBC reportedly made a last-ditch effort to salvage at least part of the Golden Globes broadcast, whereby actors could walk down a red carpet of sorts, and then be spirited off to the all-important after parties. NBC had hoped to telecast the red carpet affair, and then announce winners of the awards at a press conference, capturing winners' reactions at the parties.

So the writers claim a victory by canceling the awards show and that they are sticking it to the man. But let's look at this way, the studios still get the awards. So a year from now does it make a difference who accepted the award or that fact that they won? I go with the latter. Plus they save them all the money it would cost to rent limos, buy dresses, hire babysitters, fly people and so on. So another benefit for the studios. I could be wrong though.

So who really loses? The fans. People who don't understand this strike are not only losing their shows, now that are losing their award shows. That is why it is telecast, not for the studios but for the fans.

I hate awards shows and even I am bummed that this one and possibly the Oscars too will be scrapped.

As Jimmy Kimmel said (referring to the way the writers were picketing Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien's shows) "sometimes you need to back off!"

To the writers please think of the fans when it comes to the Oscars! Don't cancel them too.

Oh well I am off to watch Dance War which will now have more viewers since there is no new Heroes or 24 because of the WGA strike.

Kimmel to do Leno and Leno to do Kimmel on Thursday

January 5th, 2008 by

(photo from JimmyKimmel.net)

Jimmy Kimmel will be a guest on Jay Leno's show and then Jay Leno will be a guest on Jimmy Kimmel's show according to the NY Times!

In the course of meetings with the writers’ guild over what the hosts would be permitted to do and telephone discussions between the shows about mutual interests, Mr. Leno and Mr. Kimmel established a relationship, the late-night representatives said. Mr. Kimmel even offered some words of support for Mr. Leno on Wednesday during his first show back.

Mr. Leno, who has been the leading star in late-night television for well over a decade, extended an invitation to Mr. Kimmel, who then reciprocated, the representatives said.

Neither have been on the others show before Thursday, so it will be interesting to see these two interviewing the other one. Plus you know me anything that gives Kimmel more publicity is a good thing in my book!!!

Hopefully the New York hosts will do the same for each other because the WGA is trageting Conan O"Brien, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert on Monday when the latter two join Conan and go back on the air for the first time since the strike started.

Amen to Jimmy Kimmel!!!

January 3rd, 2008 by

via Jimmy Kimmel Live!!!
Jimmy Kimmel has said what I have been saying about the strike and the late night talk shows. I guess that is why I like so much, great minds think alike!!! What was not seen in that monologue is that he has segments on the shows that showed past clips which he called so the unemployed writers can get residuals. Way to go Jimmy!!!!
Here are the other monologues in no particular order…

In my opinion I think the hosts that didn’t have writers did better than the two on the bottom who did.I think Jay Leno was hysterical and I normally don’t laugh at his monologues.

Personally I think that Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien who did not their writers did a funnier monologue than David Letterman and Craig Ferguson who did have their writers. I have to admit that was the first time I laughed at one Leno’s monologue in a really long time and the first time I actually saw one of Conan’s. I also to admit I got a few chuckles with Craig’s but not many with David Letterman.

The WGA strikers outside where Kimmel and Leno were taping

January 2nd, 2008 by

Kimmel Leno strikers

So I figured I would drive by where Jimmy Kimmel and Jay Leno tape to see what the striking situation was and share with you what I saw.
As you can see by the first part of the video, no one was striking outside Jimmy Kimmel’s on Hollywood Blvd at 4:30p pst. Which is a good thing because you know I don’t like when anyone mess with Kimmel. (Secret, I almost tried to see if I could get in to today’s taping but I was too lazy to go in to the lot and see if Guillermo was actually working it and would let me get away with not paying the $10 fee to park.)
Then after Kimmel’s I drove over to where Jay Leno tapes in Burbank and as you can see that is a whole different situation at 4:45p. The second part, I think is actually Ellen Degeneres’ entrance and the third part is Jay Leno’s. Because it was 4:45p all the guests were inside, so you couldn’t see what that was like. On normal taping days there is normally a line of people waiting to get in that is larger than all the people that were out there striking.
Yes I know it is not that exciting and the video is way too fast and wobbly, but seriously it is hard to drive and film at the same time.

The boys of Late Night are back tonight!!

January 2nd, 2008 by

(photo from JimmyKimmel.net)

Jimmy Kimmel, Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien, David Letterman and Craig Ferguson are all joining Carson Daly and returning to TV for the first time since the WGA strike began two months ago.

Kimmel, Leno and O'Brien are returning without their writers and are rumored to have the disadvantage of booking guests because stars will not cross the line to appear on their show. I can tell you there are many great musical acts, sports stars, Presidential candidates, comedians and reality stars who will be willing to fill the slots and sometimes they make much better guests! The writers have said they will be picketing outside Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel's studios in protest of them returning. I understand what the writers are trying to say, but these guys are returning to help their non-writing staff and not because they want to.

So when it comes to supporting the talk show hosts, I am supporting Jimmy Kimmel, Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien and Carson Daly only! So good luck to you guys, I know you need it!
And BTW Jimmy Kimmel is back….Yahoo!!!

David Letterman and Craig Ferguson will also be back on Wednesday!

December 28th, 2007 by

(photo © CBS)

David Letterman and Craig Ferguson will be joining Jimmy Kimmel, Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien and did I mention Jimmy Kimmel by returning to the late night airwaves on Wednesday. But unlike the others and Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert (who return on the 7th) and Spike Feresten (on the 12th) both shows will be returning with their writers after reaching an agreement with The WGA according Variety.

I am glad that all of late night is coming back together!!! And as you guys know I am over the moon to have a new episode of Jimmy Kimmel on the 2nd!!!

The Daily Show and The Cobert Report will be back on 1/7

December 20th, 2007 by

Comedy Central announced today that The Daily Show and Stephen Colbert will join 4 of the 6 late night talk show hosts and return to TV on January 7th according to AP. Both shows will not be coming back with any writers, so it will be interesting to see how they will do because they more scripted than the late night shows. I think both guys will be able to handle it for the interim.

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert released this statement about returning:

"We would like to return to work with our writers. If we cannot, we would like to express our ambivalence, but without our writers, we are unable to express something as nuanced as ambivalence."

I know that they don't want to go back, but there are a lot of people that will be so happy to have them back on the air on the 7th.

The WGA risking this years’ Oscars and the Golden Globes

December 18th, 2007 by

The WGA has opted not to give writing waivers to this year's Oscars and Golden Globes according to the WGA.

In letters to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, WGAW President Patric M. Verrone described the Guild’s respect and admiration for both organizations, explaining that:

“Writers are engaged in a crucial struggle to achieve a collective bargaining agreement that will protect their compensation and intellectual property rights now and in the future. We must do everything we can to bring our negotiations to a swift and fair conclusion for the benefit of writers and all those who are being harmed by the companies’ failure to engage in serious negotiations.”

The signatories producing the Golden Globes and the Oscars are West Coast signatories. The WGAW’s Board of Directors concluded, reluctantly, that granting exceptions for the Golden Globes or the Academy Awards would not advance that goal.

While I support the writers I think there are some things that above the strike and these two awards shows are two of them. These shows are not about the writers but honoring Hollywood for the work they accomplished over the year and the fans. The fans are the ones that are getting screwed by this waiver and with the loss of their shows and now their awards shows how long do you think they will support the writers? Do you think middle-America understands why they are losing their shows and now their awards shows?

Not only is it the fans that are affected by this decision, but so are all the people that depend on these awards shows like the designers, jewelers and hair dressers to name a few. These are people who will suffer financially because of this decision.

I understand that The WGA is trying to make a point and screw the studios (which they will) but they are screwing us too and so many others.  I really hope they reconsider that this strike is not only about them and they grant the waivers.

Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien offically coming back on January 2nd!

December 17th, 2007 by

As expected NBC made the announcement today that Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien will return to their shows on January 2nd!

After two months of repeats, "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" will resume broadcasting all-new episodes beginning Wednesday, January 2, 2008 (11:35 p.m., 12:35 a.m., respectively).

The late night shows suspended production due to the strike by the Writers Guild of America on November 5 and have aired repeats since.

"During the 1988 writers strike, Johnny Carson reluctantly returned to 'The Tonight Show' without his writers after two months. Both Jay and Conan have supported their writers during the first two months of this WGA strike and will continue to support them. However, there are hundreds of people who will be able to return to work as a result of Jay's and Conan's decision," said Rick Ludwin, Executive Vice President, Late Night & Primetime Series.

I am glad that late night is slowly returning, now if only Jimmy Kimmel would come back it would make Christmas a little more special!

Seth MacFarlane explains his Family Guy comments

December 14th, 2007 by

I am so glad that what Seth MacFarlane said about that if Fox finished his nearly completed Family Guy episodes without him that he would walk from the show, was something that was just said of anger. Family Guy will live on to hopefully to get their 200th episode, they have 97 more to do to accomplish to that!
I also like that he is optimistic that the WGA strike will end soon and things will go back to almost normal. Let’s hope he is right because we are running out of episodes of favorite shows and the Awards shows like the Golden Globes and the Oscars are in jeopardy.

Charisma Carpenter says she’s broke cause of the WGA Strike in divorce

December 14th, 2007 by

Charisma Carpenter, who is earning residuals from all the replays of Buffy and Angel on TNT, claims that she is broke and wants her ex to pay for her divorce costs according to E!

"At the present time, [Hardy] has the ability to work full time and make more money than I am currently making," Carpenter states. "[He] should be paying my attorneys' fees and costs…The court should uphold the spousal support waiver, but if it does not do so, it should award spousal support to me."

The 2004 Playboy cover girl says that her and Hardy's prenup includes a waiver of spousal support by both sides in the event that their marriage fails to last seven years. Carpenter filed for divorce Aug. 2.

But Hardy, who stated in a declaration filed Nov. 27 that he quit working for awhile to be a stay-at-home dad for their four-year-old son, Donovan Charles Hardy, maintains that he wasn't fully aware of what he was getting into before he agreed to the premarital arrangement.

"I do not recall any discussion regarding the waiver of spousal support, and no one explained to me what rights I was giving up regarding spousal support by signing the premarital agreement," Hardy stated.

He claims that before the couple swapped vows in October 2002 he earned $18,000 a year working as a hotel bellman and supervisor. Meanwhile, Hardy stated, Carpenter is capable of making up to $500,000 a year (what he says she earned in 2004) as an actress.

"I have recently returned to work, but I am making less than $2,000 per month and I cannot afford to go to school at this time," Hardy, a high school graduate, said.

What a b!tch. How could she be broke with all the residuals she has been making off of Buffy and Angel and Playboy? She was also slated to guest on the cancelled Big Shots, but her episodes have yet to air. She blames the strike but if it wasn't for the upcoming strike at the time Big Shots would not have been on the air long enough for her to even have a shot of role.

I watched both Buffy and Angel and it was her looks not her acting that kept her on the shows. I hope her husband who earns $24,000 a year wins out when they are in court on January 9th..

I hate Desperate Housewives’ Marc Cherry

December 6th, 2007 by

ABC and Marc Cherry promised that Sunday’s episode was the best episode of the season and they delivered! The last ten minutes of the episode were the best of the last three seasons. So why do I hate Marc Cherry? Well as you can see from that clip Sunday’s Desperate Housewives ended in an amazing cliffhanger that makes you wonder who survived that tornado, but according to Watch with Kristin we will not find out who did until after the WGA strike ends.

Sources tell Krisitn Marc Cherry & Co. have already shot the next episode, but they are holding it until after the strike ends to keep fans guessing and make sure they return to the show when it’s back on the airwaves.

Marc I know you sat at the negotiating table before the strike, but if you take to long to air the episode I might not return. If I thought that Sunday’s episode was the last one written and shot before the script, I wouldn’t be so hateful. But the fact that he is holding it really pissed me off. I say to ABC and Marc Cherry air that episode if you have it, think of the fans you want to keep and not lose.
BTW I never thought I would say I hate Marc Cherry because I love anyone who worked on Golden Girls! But holding back an episode to us loyal fans who watched three years of crap leading up to Sunday’s episode is just wrong.
OK I feel better now that I vented, here is a great death from the episode…one of the three deaths that is rumored to have occurred during the show.

Jimmy Kimmel secretly taking care of his employees!

December 4th, 2007 by

Not only is Jimmy Kimmel sexy he is also the nicest late night TV talk show host out there. According to Deadline Hollywood Daily, unlike the other talk show hosts, he has been secretly not publicly been paying his lower level employees out of his own pocket while ABC has been paying the higher ups. Well today ABC suspended them all as long as there are no new shows produced and Kimmel has picked up everyones salaries out of his own pocket….big and small. Kimmel also unlike Letterman, Conan and Leno he is paid a lot less than them and his friends fear that he might be going for broke supporting them.

When this strike ends (hopefully soon) remember this and check out Jimmy Kimmel Live! Support someone who supports others!

Is nothing sacred in the WGA strike?
I love the video that the Colbert Report writers put together. Hey wait a second did they write something that went on the internet during the strike? Ooooo they are going to be in trouble for breaking the strike.
