Audiovox intros ACA250 wireless DIY back-up camera system

We’ll go ahead and state the obvious here: Audiovox claims this thing is made for DIY installations, but we’d highly recommend hiring a professional if you’re totally green at this stuff. You know, considering the immense importance of alignment and the like when it comes to a rear-view back-up camera system. Anyways, the wireless ACA250 kit provides drivers with a color camera (110-degree viewing angle), infrared LEDs for night vision and a monitor that can be plugged into an AC adapter or hard-wired. Not too shabby for $129 — assuming you’re up to the task of putting it all together, that is. Full release after the jump.

Hands-on with Panasonic / T-Mobile WiFi camera technology

January 8th, 2008 by

Recall that elusive wireless Lumix that Panasonic was developing in conjunction with T-Mobile? Turns out, Panny’s still mulling over what camera to put the WiFi technology into, but the demo camera seen at CES was a DMC-TZ3. If the on-site representative is to be believed, it’ll first be seen in a point-and-shoot, but there’s no definitive plans for it expand onto “a lot” of models. Hit up the gallery below if you’re interested in seeing the technology in action — from upload to Picasa viewing, it’s all there.

Panasonic, T-Mobile developing first wireless Lumix camera

January 7th, 2008 by

Details are admittedly scant at the moment, but it appears that Panasonic and T-Mobile are collaborating on some front to develop the first ever wireless Lumix digital camera. If you couldn’t guess, the cam will feature integrated access to T-Mobile HotSpot and will give owners the ability to beam images directly to Picasa Web Albums. The elusive Lumix — which still sports no model number — will apparently come bundled with a full year of complimentary HotSpot access, but we’re told absolutely nothing else specs wise. On that note, we’re not even given a clue as to when said camera will launch nor how much it’ll run, but at least we’ve got something to keep an eye out for, right?

NEC shows off fluorescent light-powered wireless camera

November 30th, 2007 by

Filed under:

It looks like those looking to put together a quick and easy surveillance system for spying on their employees could soon find their solution courtesy of NEC, which is set to debut a new security cam that draws all its power from a standard fluorescent light. But that’s not all, the camera also boasts some built-in 802.11b WiFi capabilities to stream all that video (or, more specifically, an image every ten seconds) back to a PC, which can presumably be used to monitor dozens of these little all-seeing wonders. No word on a price or release date, but NEC will apparently have more to say about it at the iExpo2007 conference that gets underway in Tokyo on December 5th.

Eye-Fi’s 2GB SD wireless card hits the FCC

October 19th, 2007 by

It’s taken nearly a full year, but Eye-Fi has finally gotten around to doubling the capacity of its multifaceted SD card. The Eye-Fi-2GB provides the same WiFi-enabling capabilities to any SD-ready digital camera, but this one looks to pack 2GB of capacity to handle even more snaps. From what we can tell by peeking the (apparently scanned in) user’s manual, the card will be compatible with both Macs and PCs, but of course, we’ve no idea how much this thing will cost you when it finally hits shelves. Rest assured, we’ll be finding out soon enough.
